The walk was all stairs and well maintained. It took about 45 minutes to reach the top, and the path is directly in the sun, so make sure to cover up or lather on the block. Stunning views from the top of Coron and the surrounding areas. A must do in the evening for sunset.

We were able to challenge the 700 steps of Mt Tapyas. Though it was very tiring indeed, to see the sunset on the top is jaw dropping. Overlooking Coron is a sight to behold.

I like how this place illustrates the phrase "no pain, no gain", or "there's a rainbow always after the rain", and other phrases with that gist. You have to climb approximately 700 steps before reaching the viewing deck, and for me who is not a mountaineer or hiker, it was quite a challenge. It's a good thing that they have well placed benches where people can rest before they proceed. It was daunting, yes, but as you climb, there are beautiful scenes that will push you to the top. And the top, in terms of scenery, is worth all the impromptu exercise. Other than seeing a beautiful sunset, you can view the town and other islands. The scene is simply breathtaking.

There are some things that need improvement however, like the lack of other activities or facilities en route and at the view deck. There are indeed benches strategically placed between the steps, but there is no landscaping or park where one can take a breather. You simply sit and then climb again. At the view deck as well, there are benches and a cross, but other than that the place is bare. There is also no restroom (at least we didn't see an obvious one). There are also no stalls that sell refreshments.

So to those who plan to go to the view deck, make sure to:
1. bring food and refreshments, you'll need the fluids
2. pace yourselves, If you plan to watch the sunset, start climbing at about 3 PM if you do not regularly hike
3. bring a flashlight for when you go up to view the sunrise or go down after viewing the sunset
4. bring something to kill time while waiting like cards or board games
5. do your human necessities (void, etc) before climbing

and finally, just ENJOY!

720 steps to the top! make sure you bring water,

the shelters along the way are very damaged from recent weather, however the path is intact and fine,

its a very strenuous hike and will leave you sore for days if you are unfit, but at the top there is unsurpassed views of Coron and its bay, well worth the walk,

700 Stairs to the top. There are plenty of benches for resting on the way, though, and getting up to see the sunset is completely worth the effort. We spent 3 days in Coron on my last trip, and all our best pictures were looking out from Mt. Tapyas at sunset.

The little islands taht surround it, the sea and the hills on the opposite side seem to strike a pose .. thats how picture perfect the view is.
