Stayed September 2016, I feel it is not as described, property is entered by the front door in to the hall, four doors leading off and a wooden ladder going up to the upper floor, the floor of the hall is hard tiled on a concrete floor, to the right is the bathroom, clean but dull with a musty smell, there are no opening windows for ventilation, just a mechanical fan, a bath or shower turns the bathroom into a sauna, wet walls and floor. The shower is described as a power shower but my 23 year old instantainious electric Triton offers more power.
The next door off the hall leads to the bedroom, this has a large comfortable bed and is well appointed with plenty of storage.
The next door leads to the Kitchen, again well appointed with all the appliances you may expect in a high priced property, the cooker though lets it down, made by Bosch it is of poor design, the controls have all been cooked by the grill and oven, if using the grill the knobs get very hot and burn your fingers if you try to turn them, the grill has no handle to slide the grill pan in and out. The hot water temperature is way to hot, it will do far worse than just scald you, the controls for the heating and boiler are locked away in a cupboard and the boiler can not be accessed without first removing the cooker, so there is no control for the renter. All the cupboards in the kitchen are full of plates, cups etc and there is no storage space for food if you wish to cook during your stay, so it will have to be kept on the work tops.
The lounge accessed by the last internal door off the hall, it has 2 comfy leather sofas, table, excellent wood burner and electrical items such as TV and DVD.
Now we come to what I consider a serious dangerous access to the first floor, it has a wooden ladder from the hall, almost vertical, polished slippery treads and thick hand rails, I work in construction and use ladders all the time in my work, this ladder felt wrong, all ladders I use have a rough grippy surface to ensure your feet do not slip, not polished wood, the hand rails are to thick so you cannot grip it and when you get to the top you have nothing to hold on to as you step off. My wife would not go up it, my in-laws in their eighties could not go up it, children may well love it but it is only a matter of time before some one falls off it, down to the hard floor, personally I do not believe this has passed building control for access to bedrooms.
The property is attached to another barn conversion used by the owner, during our stay 8 people where in the property, they were noisy at night when returning from nights out, 12.30 to 1.00 in the morning laughing and joking in the back garden, they threw 8 wetsuits on our garden wall and into our garden, parked in one of the two spaces rented to us, they did just enough tolet us feel nthat Apple barn was theirs not ours.
All the reviews were saying how lovely the place is, so perhaps it is me, or perhaps it would explain the ripped out pages in the visitors book
It should be described to sleep 2 not 6 unless they sort out access to the upper floor but for now it is way over priced.
