“Lots of details in a small area. Amazing what the volunteers do.”

Minster Abbey Gatehouse Museum

As part of visiting Sheppey, you need to have visited this museum. You can truly see that the volunteers do all to make it a wonderful visit. I loved the sight when you were on top of the building, we done that 18 years ago with family. We still talk about the amazing views. You do need a fairly good mobility if you want to enjoy all this museum has to offer to the full. The staff lay on extra activities certain times of the year. If you see them advertised, it is worth paying this museum a visit.

When we arrived I told my boys 'we'll on be in here foe about 15 minutes, its tiny'
Wrong!
Three floors of amazing exhibits and staff who really care about the place and their visitors. We were given a tour my an amazing gentleman who knew everything about the Isle of Sheppey - and believe me, theres lots to know.
Thank you to the men who stayed open for us and gave such great insight to the island.

The photograph is incorrect. It shows Minster Abbey not Minster Gatehouse Museum. The Gatehouse has a festive Christmas tree and lights around the turrets on the roof. Father Christmas was in residence too.

The museum is quite small and and has several stair cases. Some of these are tight spiral staircases. This means it is unsuitable if you are disabled or in a wheel chair. This is due to the building being an old medieval gatehouse. There are lots of interesting items on display all local items. A nice way to spend an hour or so. The volunteer staff are very friendly and on hand to answer questions. Also on a clear day the view from the roof is spectacular. It costs about £1-50p to get in so it's a bargain. If you are on the Isle of Sheppey and want to while away an hour it's a nice way to do it.
