Luxury Ger Camp

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Oct 10, 2018via mobile
This is by far the best ger operation in Mongolia. You will have a separate attached ger which amounts to a huge bathroom with rock shower with plenty of hot water. The king sized bed was huge. We were there during very cold evenings and the staff kept our stove going in the evening and early morning. The ger itself was very comfortable. The restaurant served top notch dishes at all meals. The breakfast is a nice buffet with plenty of choices including egg dishes to order. The other meals are provided with table service. The bar has a reasonable choice of wines, beers and cocktails. The bar man also has great taste in music which sets a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere in the comfortable bar lounge. He is a great guy! The camp is relatively close to most of the gobi’s sites. The immediate views from the camp are awesome, including the southern end of the Altai Mountains.

A visit to Mongolia must include at least three nights at Three Camels Camp.

The rooms are fine, but overall I think the lodge and tours are extremely over-priced. You can get pretty much the same experience -- perhaps not the shower -- in other camps. Specifically, I thought the food was good but very western; there was no opportunity to learn about local culture or traditions (my guide didn't really talk about this); response time to email inquiries and phone calls was very delayed; and overall the lodge has a more "cold" environment compared to the hospitality you find elsewhere in Mongolia. (Ironically, I also thought it was a little awkward to have your guide with you at all times, as I am used to some down-time when I travel.) If you need a nicer bathroom then this might be your place, but I don't think it's worth it.

On our Mongolia trip, our group was able to stay at 3 differently-priced accommodations, 3 Camel Lodge being our last ger "camp". It is how I would envision top-notch glamping. Nice beds and a fire wood oven in each ger which attendants light during the cold autumn mornings. A full en-suite bathroom with plush robes and toiletry sets. A mini theater. Multiple course dinners and a pleasant breakfast spread.

The staff are very accommodating and friendly. The grounds are well kept and has a sweeping view of the Mongolian plain from their lodge. They have bikes which you can ride out into the hill behind the camp. We got snow one night (a surprise in September) and it was the most beautiful thing to see in the morning.

No cell reception or wifi but it didn't really bother us. You get to unplug and enjoy the scenery and peacefulness in comfort.

I was so thrilled about the beauty of three camel lodge, it has a majestic location in Gobi desert that is very unique and special compared to other camps. The authentic Mongolian decoration had astonished me across the camp reception, dining place, library room and across all guests camps regardless their grades. We stayed at a remote ger named “Boar” which overlook directly to Gobi scape and have ensuite bathroom. The decorations and the amenities in the camp was so luxury and superb and at the same type it preserves the traditional theme of Mongolian theme and such combination was my perfect comfortable desire and match. The food and the staff services were excellent and prompt by all mean. We were lucky enough to meet Mr. Jalsa, the owner and founder of this camp, who had warmly welcomed us to his camp and go the opportunity to talk about so many things in common between Mongolia and Kuwait (my country). We shared with Mr. Jalsa our suggestions to set a folk music show in the camp to entertain the guests and help the communities around Gobi desert and he was so attentive and responsive to our ideas. Once again, we were thrilled by the generosity of Mr. Jalsa who had prepared for us the requested Mongolian folk music performance by a group of talented young students from the village around Gobi, and the setup was in the beautiful camp hill side location. We are grateful to Mr. Jalsa for his kind and generous arrangement of which we enjoyed much and gained a lot of knowledge about Mongolia music and dance culture. I hardly recommend to stay in this camp to make your journey to Gobi is so memorable in a life time.

This is an absolutely wonderful place.

My recommendation: it’s easy to go touring all day and spend lots of time in the car. This place is pretty and peaceful make time to soak in the magic.

What surprised us: every guest group is assigned a resort private guide to stay with you the whole time you are there. They will be your translator, personal tour guide, helper, and meal companion. Our guide picked us up at our hotel in UB and took the plane flight to the Gobi and was with us the whole time as we needed. It can be too much if you are not used to this type of constant presence but our guide Demma was excellent and made our experience lovely.

Improvement: We noticed that dining staff looked tired and at struggled to keep up. They were working hard... I wonder if they might be getting burned out a bit. Maybe they need another helper??

In the Gobi, there are ger camps and then there is the Three Camel Lodge. Pulled straight out of a fairytale, pictures and words simply cannot do this place justice. Yes, this place is probably 10 times the cost of some other ger camps but come here after staying at any other camp in Mongolia and you understand why. This place simply has no equal. No one else is even close.
