The Asset for the ownership are Mama Twiga and her very polit staff, they always do their utmost to make our stay
comfortable. Many thanks!!!!
Apart from the missing wifi in the room, just only in the Lobby available, we enjoyed our stay.

Girafs in the garden of the lodge, taking the sun- downer while gazing at the Kilimandjaro, buffalos having their dinner near by, an open fire ... it was a really relaxing surrounding after a long flight!

Hatari Lodge is world famous because of the John Wayne movie in 1961 . The rooms are in little villas in a vast garden, decorated in the style of a 1960s lodge. The service is very nice, the food is pleasant and for Tanzanian standards rather good, the terrace is beautiful so is the cocktail hour deck with open fire. The lodge was formerly owned by the German actor Hardy Krueger and is still owned by a German. So you will meet mostly German groups which we found a bit sad. An international crowd of individual travelers would have been more to our liking. But may we were just unlucky. I highly recommend a stay at Hatari if you don´t want to go to a really expensive lodge but you are still willing to pay around 500,-- EUR per person per night with full board. Game drives at this lodge are not included and have to be booked and paid separately.

The lodge has a priviledged and unique position with a wonderful view on Meru and Kilimanjaro mountains. Amazing experience with animals, especially giraffes. The excellent service and friendly atmosphere provided by the staff and the manager made our stay unforgettable.

We (family of 4) stayed for 3 nights - the first one at the Shu'Mata Camp and the second and third at the Hatari Lodge. After 5 days of Safari (i.e. entire days on dusty roads), the stay at Shu'Mata and Hatari was the perfect complement. Walking Safaris at Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru, and relaxing at the lodge; watching the Giraffes passing by, the monkeys looking for a chance to grab some food from the tables.
We had booked two rooms and got actually an entire part of a house - two bedrooms, two bathrooms, all connected, very convenient for us. View to both sides (Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru).
Overall, we liked the comfortable rooms, the nice garden, the great sundowners on the "jetty" - but we liked best the welcoming atmosphere! Thanks again for great days at Hatari!

Room tip: Rooms face either Kilimanjaro or Mount Meru, and each side is nice. The Kilimanjaro side gets the best view of the sunrise.
