This was our second visit to the Maldives but first time to this island and what an amazing time we had.

There is not one thing we would change about this beautiful island. It is a piece of paradise on earth!

We were travelling with our 10 month old son who was treated like a little celebrity with all the attention he received, from animals made out of napkins left on his high chair to grasshoppers made from reeds by the bar staff!

The staff are so friendly and attentive nothing is too much trouble.

We stayed in a deluxe beach villa which was very comfortable, we especially loved the outdoor shower.

The food in the main restaurant was great with loads of theme nights and variations so no 2 nights are the same.

The snorkelling is the best we have ever experienced with daily sightings of turtles, sharks and stingrays.

Both myself and my husband used the spa a couple of times for massages, these were AMAZING! The spa is pricey but was so tranquil and relaxing.

Anuj in the gym was great. Very enthusiastic and my husband particularly enjoyed the aqua yoga!!

To sum up we loved our holiday here so much we have booked to come back in November and raved about it so much to family they have booked to come feb next year!

See you in November Helengeli,

The Rolf’s xx

This was our fourth visit to the Maldives and as always we book through Angelfish Travel who are competitive, reliable and really knowledgeable. The reasons we choose OBLU was for the family villa, the house reef and the all inclusive package. We actually stayed in July 2018, its taking me a whilst to post, but thought the following may be of use.

The speed boat transfer is a speedboat transfer, if the sea is choppy the ride will be rougher that if its calm. It was choppy for us, but no big deal. Whilst at the island we did see one boat arrive that had a older women requiring to be helped off the boat (poor lady) due to the rough crossing, but I am sure it would soon have been forgotten.

The island is beautiful and well kept, its reasonably large but not too large. The two pools are fine, but we spent most of the time in the sea or our private pool.

We stayed in one of the two bedroom villas with their own private pool, and I was very impressed. The pool was big enough for the family and was a nice private space for us. The rooms were of a good quality and kept spotless. If you get the opportunity its worth it. they are directly on the beach and the area of sea outside is good for a bit of close in snorkelling and areas of sandy bottom to float and bob a few hours away.

The all inclusive at OBLU is a real winner, food always excellent standard and plenty of choice. Good range of drink so we were fed and watered for the two week very well.

The house reef was one area for us that was a little disappointing, mainly due to the currents. The reef itself has some very good parts and some less so areas, but this has been similar to other resorts we have been too, the biggest issue for us as I say was the current. Most of my family are reasonably strong swimmers, but my wife not so and even with the life vest was not confident to venture to the drop off, the rest of us had to make a conscious decision to go to the drop off due to the concern as to the current. It was red flagged for much of our visit so we were limited to when we could go as well. This is not the resorts fault and safety is paramount so totally understand. Knowing now what we found out we would have probably gone somewhere else.

Overall the island is beautiful and the staff are excellent, the reef is good, but can be difficult to get too. We are glad to have been, but would probably go somewhere else next time (and have booked somewhere different for our next visit).

Room tip: Two room villas are a real winner

First of all, we had a lovely 10 night stay at the Oblu. The reason for the hesitant 5 stars is that we stayed at The Atmosphere Kanifushi a few years ago which is platinum all inclusive and definitely 5 stars. The factor that gets the Oblu 5 is its fantastic house reef which The Atmosphere Kanifushi doesn't have.

On arrival we were upgraded to deluxe beach villas which was great though our new location didn't have very good access to the beach and sea. I spoke to reception and they were able to move us to 2 other villas a couple of days later. These had great access to the beach and sea. They were on the sunrise side of the island and the building going on on the island opposite, which has been mentioned in other reviews, was not a factor visually or in terms noise.

The staff are all fantastic, friendly, polite and helpful. The food is good quality and there is plenty of choice. Plenty of fish, and the nightly curries are amazing. The selection of alcohol is also good. No premium brands in the all inclusive, but Gordon's and Beefeater Gin and Stolly vodka level of alcohol. You can pay for other alcohol and the prices are very reasonable. (VSOP Brandy $6 and Corona $2 as examples). The included wines we tried were mostly nice as well and you can pay for other wines as well.

The house reef is great. You can pretty much see as much snorkling as you can diving. A real plus for this resort. The non motorised water sports are a bit limited as you can only go in the lagoon area due to the currents. The motorised water sports are on the expensive side as is the diving (my son and I did 4 dives each and the bill was about $900). The dive centre staff are great. Experienced, knowledgeable and professional and the manta ray dive is a must if you are going to dive. Our thanks to Lucie who lead all of our dives.
The prices in the spar were also excessive particularly when you have to add 22% in taxes. Hence we didn't use the spar. It looks nice and certainly has a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. (The current £/$ exchange rate doesn't help and the prices are probably the same all over the Maldives)

The gym is a bit of a let down in that it is very small. Anuj, the trainer there is very good. He knows his stuff and his classes are great. Apparently there are plans to give him some more space
with a larger improved gym and more space to do classes. I would say that this is a priority.

The deluxe beach villas are nice but could do with a coffee machine. Nescafe sachets don't really do the trick so you have to go to the bar or restaurant for a decent coffee. It would be nice to be able to sit outside the villa in the morning and have a nice coffee watching the sun come up.
They also need mosquito nets that fit. We didn't have any issues with mosquitoes but big gaps in the nets rather defeats the point...
The rooms are turned back each night and a Ferrero Roche left on the bed. Could I suggest that the night time chocolate treat is varied a bit over the week

Overall, I think that the Oblu, based on our 10 nights stay, deserves 5 stars, the 4 of us had a great time and we would happily have another holiday here.

Choosing an accommodation for Maldives was one of the hardest things to do!
There were so many options and considerations and nearly everything was expensive.
Being a family of 5 with 3 boys aging 8-18, we were afraid of landing in a honeymoon only setting and breaking the bank!
Oblu was the perfect choice. There were no package tour groups, the rooms though not lux, were comfortable and spacious. Housekeeping was good and discreet. Thoughtful even! Beach bag and slippers were provided! We stayed at the beachfront villa and you had your own easy access with deckchairs. There were quite a lot of corals at the beach and it was fairly difficult to snorkel directly from the beach but snorkelling from the jump off jetty was perfect. The long walkway through turquoise waters on both sides were almost like photoshopped images! We saw lots of sea life and even baby reef sharks! There is a shower point at the jump off, with shelter and benches, lifeguards on duty and flags to indicate the current and safety for swimming. We ticked off sea turtles, stingrays (huge and congregate below the jetty), eagle ray, black-tip reef shark, octopus!., moray eel, and all the other reef fishes you can name.
If your focus on Maldives was the sea and setting in relative comfort and reasonable price, Oblu is a great option.
There were no hidden costs or charges in the all-inclusive package. Meals were good and relaxed, buffet style. Servers were friendly. There was really only 1 restaurant for breakfast lunch and dinner unless you chose to pay extra for the grill across. However, I never felt bored and always managed to find something different that I liked for the meal. There was also a great bar, chill place to just relax and hang out in between. The all inclusive included wines, spirits and cocktails, mocktails and juices and having everything covered and not having to check bills was the best!
Evenings could get a bit boring as there was only 1 pool table, darts and a table tennis table. However, there was night snorkelling which you could participate (though we did not try). We tried the sunset fishing (hand fishing and we caught some emperors!) and that was fun. Nurse sharks came in to the harbour every evening at 6 and it was nice to watch them in a picturesque setting.
One word: there was ongoing construction in the island across and I believe some villas would have to bear with unsightly white lights from the site through the night. The lagoon villas did not look that amazing to us either. At the time we went, it was not possible to snorkel directly from them due to the currents...
After we checked out of Oblu, we went to a five star resort at Baa Atoll more than twice the price but other than the hardware, felt that Oblu had so much more to offer.

Room tip: Rooms close to the jump-off points had less privacy. AVoid rooms facing construction in neighbouring island!
