Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa
Ranked #1 of 2 Hotels in Huraa Island
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed April 10, 2009

This was our first stay in the Maldives having just got married and despite having stayed in many beautiful places around the world, this was simply the very best. The Four Seasons level of service is outstanding and the Hotel is just gorgeous. Situated on it's own atoll, you feel like you really are on your own desert island.
Yes it is expensive, but what do you expect when you come to paradise! With regard to the actual hotel, the food is outstanding and all the restaurants are superb, however our favourite was the Indian. The bar by the pool is a great place for a lunch time drink - you must try the Lomi Lomi.
The Bungalow we stayed in - a Sunset Bungalow with Pool - was out of this world, with loads of space, a gorgeous outside shower and all the facilities you would expect from such a hotel. we would recommend the Sunset side as the beach is much nicer and it's a great place to watch the sun set with a glass of champagne.
The spa is magical, what a great way to arrive for a treatment - by boat!
Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and we felt pampered and looked after without overbearing service. In short, this was a place we will never forget, and we most definitely will be back!

The four seasons in Kuda Hura is truly an amazing place. We had a water bungalow on the sunset side, however, would recommand the sunrise side as on the sunset side you do look at another resort. All the staff are professional and the service is flawless nothing is too much. I've had read that this suited to families however, as someone who has travelled with children before (not this trip), I wouldnt recommanded it too families it is very, very expensive and as meals exp. bfast is not included ,you can spend up to $80US for dinner for the children. The day spa is a MUST! If you havent dived before may I suggest you do it before you go as the sealife is fantastic. The house reef is great for snorkelling. I did a cooking class with the head chef for anybody who enjoys cooking please do this..... you will love it! Please note that the resort is extremely expensive especailly for australian travellers so if you can see if you can get all meals included.

This review is a little bit late seeing as we visited this hotel in July of 2008, but while booking our next trip to the Maldives, i realized what a resource TripAdvisor is so i wanted to make a contribution to help other people make a decision in the future.

So on to the resort.......absolutely amazing!

Upon arriving at the airport in Male, we were quickly greeted by friendly staff who promptly took our luggage for us (and we didn't have to touch it again until we arrived at our room). We were told that there would be a small wait for a another plane to land and a few more people to take to the island and i had no problem with this and they gave offered us drinks while we waited. After about 20 minutes they decided they didn't want to make us wait anymore so we hopped on the speedboat and away we went. The island was about a 30 minute speedboat ride from the airport.

When we arrived on the jetty we were again greeted by more friendly staff and we were brought to the lobby. We were seated on a very comfy couch and were brought a refreshing ginger lime drink and a cold, scented towel. Very nice after our 20 hour journey from Canada. All of the paperwork was brought to u for check in, instead of us having to stand at the counter while they took care of everything. We arrived at the Resort quite early in the morning and we had to wait for about another half an hour while they finished up the room.

When the room was ready we hopped on a golf cart and were taken to our room. Being unable to decide between and over water bungalow and a beach bungalow, we decided to divide our 8 night stay between the two. We started our trip in a Beach Bungalow. Just beautiful. The room was huge, had an amazing tv and sound system ( we just hooked up my Mp3 player for the trip for our own soundtrack) a dressing closet so all your luggage doesn't get strewn across the room, a luxurious bathroom, with a standalone stone tub big enough for two, double vanity and two showers, one indoors and one outdoors. The bed had a giant day lounger in front of it, facing out to our private deck with private plunge pool and, of course, the ocean.

Our time on the resort was amazing. Every morning we would get up and visit the breakfast buffet, which was quite a spread, a very good selection of items, but I do admit, by our 7th and 8th day there, it was getting a little boring. But still delicious :-) Also, the staff were very attentive, greeting us by our names every morning. Also, after seeing which newspaper we picked on the first couple of days, by the third day they had our newspaper ready for us and would give it to us when we got there. Small things but these are the things that make the difference. I was really impressed by this.

Our days on the island were spent at the pool, snorkeling and mainly relaxing. The pool was beautiful. An infinity pool that looked like it blended into the ocean. Once you had chosen your seat, a staff member would rush over and cover it with a towel and not long after that someone was over offering to get us drinks. The one day someone even came over and offered to clean my sunglasses.

The resort offers free use of snorkeling gear and we spent a lot of time just snorkeling off the beach. This is the first time I’ve snorkeled, so i was amazed at what i saw, but apparently the snorkeling off the beach is terrible. The resort was hit by the Tsunami and all the coral was damaged and is dead. But we also too an excursion out to the house reef with the resident marine biologist. It started out with a 20 minute discussion and slide show on what we would see. It was like nothing I had ever seen before, just spectacular.

We also went out on a fishing excursion. It was a fun time, and they had brought a lot of staff on the boat probably one staff for every 3 guests. We didn't catch anything but a lot of the people on the boat did. And apparently you can have your catch cooked up for you by one of the chefs. I wouldn't know seeing as I didn't catch a thing!

Our evenings were pretty low key, most of them spent at the Sunset Lounge, smoking sheesha, which was new experience for me, but the staff were very good in making us feel comfortable with it. They would also feed a few resident baby black tip reef sharks at night, which was pretty cool too. Some nights we would grab a dvd to watch back in our room. We were there to relax and that was what we did.

After four nights we moved to an Over Water Bungalow. This room was also amazing, however a little bit smaller and no private plunge pool. I much preferred the beach bungalow, as the OWB's are pretty far from the main part of the resort and far from the beach as well. Oh, and a note on the beach, there is a lot of dead coral, so you will need shoes. It's not the greatest beach, but I’m not a beach snob so it didn't really bother me. But for those of you who prefer pristine beaches, this isn't the one for you, but you can just spend your time at the pool which was amazing.

I also want to note that for both of our rooms we stayed on the sunset side. However, after visiting we saw that it wasn’t the best side. This side was a lot windier and made it difficult to spend time on our private deck. So if you have a choice stay on the sunrise side.

After 8 days it was time for us to leave. We hopped on the speedboat and we were seen off by about 5 staff members on the jetty, and it was cute as we pulled away they were all waving goodbye to us. A lasting memory we will have of our visit to Four Seasons Kuda Huraa. An amazing trip and an amazing resort!

We stayed in the Kuda Huraa for 15 days of sheer indulgence. This was a nervous trip for us as it was the first holiday with our daughet who is now 3 months old. The advice from the travel agent was that the resort is well known for its service and that we if that we should put it to the test. So we tested the service . . . and they delivered. Well done to the Four Seasons group. I do note that the staff don't take the initiative, but if you ask, they will deliver exactly what has been requested.

In terms of the resort itself, the island is well situated and has an abundance of coral and sea life. One side has a perfect beach for lounging about, while the other is covered in broken corral and more suited to snorkeling and swimming (with protective wear).

We stayed in a sun-rise beach villa and it was by far the most luxurious beach villa we have ever stayed in. The ocean villas also looked great and we would often view sea life swimming below them. I do caution that they looked to be less private than the beach villas.

In terms of food, the choice was a little limited for a 15 day stay and we quickly settled into a routine of Italian for lunch and the Cafe Huraa for dinner. While a little pricey, the food was certainly of good quality.

Generally staff were friendly and most knew us by name. My only reservation is we often felt that we were being presurised into buying items / excursions that we did not want.

A spa treatment is a must if you visit this resort, with a spa situated on an adjacent island.

Overall a fantastic get away.

This is by far the best place i have stayed in my life...the setting is breath taking, the accomodation has such attention to detail, the staff are so accomodating. We went here for our honey moon in Sept and our previous holiday was in the versace hotel in australia, the maldives and the four seasons was by far better. This is the perfect resort to experience your honeymoon. The food and wine were first class but expect to pay for this experience of a life time!

We spent a couple of night here around a trip on the Explorer and the Island is indeed pretty. However watch out for the east side beach which in essense is nothing but broken coral - a swim here requires footwear. The water bungalows are nice, but the view out to another resort less so.
Amenities and staff were professional and nice. However our stay here was simply overshadowded by the wonderful trip we had on the Four Seasons Explorer - the catamaran that operates out of here. This was simply superb - luxury cruising, beautiful rooms, new horizons daily, wonderful diving, excellent food, great staff. A wonderfully run operation that really was faultess. We loved it and this made our land based time more frustrating in a way.

Arrival
We were met at the airport by the smiling Four Seasons staff, taken to the small bar for something to drink while they took care of our suitcases, and within five minutes it was time to board the speedboat that would take us to the resort. Less than 10 minutes on our way, the boat reduced speed and the staff enthusiastically called us to the front so that we could see the dolphins spinning around the boat - welcoming us to the Maldives. What a start!!! Upon arrival at the KH island, the check in went smoothly (cold towels and drinks and a nice welcome kit for our son + quick paperwork) and we were taken to our beach bungalow in a buggy.

Beach bungalow
Our room for the stay was a beach bungalow on the sunrise side of the island. The island is so small that all locations of bungalows or pavilions are convenient. It is no more than a few minutes walk to everything.
Regarding sunrise/sunset location: The most beautiful beach stretch with soft, white sand is at the sunset side where all beach pavilions and some of the bungalows are. The sunrise side beach is wider, but mostly consisting of hard sand and coral pieces. The sunrise side seems to be more private, though, since less people use the beach on this side.
The look of the all the villas is similar to how one always dreamt that a tropical island village would look and we could spend hours just looking around at the beauty surrounding us. We loved the private area outside the villa with very comfortable sun loungers and a wonderful , shady bale around our private pool + the divine outside shower that we used all the time.
Inside the bungalow is a living/sleeping room (extremely comfortable beds and very good air conditioning), separate wardrobe with lots of space for everything and a beautiful bathroom with huge bath tub, separate toilet and shower and a sliding door to the outside shower.
We found welcome drinks, a fruit presentation (refilled every day) and a very nice cookie for our son in the room upon arrival.

Main pool
The main pool is really beautiful and serviced by friendly and smiling staff. They bring ice water and cold towels + little complimentary refreshments during the day and serve very good lunches or drinks either at the swim-up bar (which our son loved), in the poolside restaurant or set up a little table by our sun loungers.
We enjoyed walking in the lagoon during low tide (bring reef shoes or buy them at the dive shop) and to snorkel just off the beach where there is artificial coral trays with lots of fish to see.

Recreation and excursions
The resort offers a wide range of different activities and excursions if you do not feel like just relaxing all the time.
We went on two snorkel excursions and saw the amazing underwater world. They took us out in a boat with very friendly staff that would prepare our equipment, snorkel with us to point out special things to look at and then be ready with huge towels, cold water and dangerously good brownies and little sandwiches when we came out of the water. We saw a manta ray and a huge barracuda + loads of beautiful coral and fish in all different colors. No picture in the world can prepare you for the beauty of the Maldivian marine life!
In addition to snorkeling we went on dolphin safari (saw dolphins  ) and on a sunset fishing trip (got fish  ). All highly recommended.

Kids
Like all the Four Seasons resorts, the hotel is very children friendly.
All restaurants have a kids menu with all the children’s favorites and kid’s food is always served very quickly.
The resort has a complimentary kids club located near the main pool, offering a number of different activities for children. They study animals of the island (sharks, rays, crabs, lizards etc.), play games, have yoga sessions in addition to creative activities. Our son loved the computer games and got his nails painted during the kids club SPA-day(!).

Restaurants
We absolutely loved the Indian restaurant where we had dinner three times during our one-weeks-stay. The chef prepared a special dinner for us one night which was the culinary highlight of our stay.
We also really enjoyed the Indian theme dinner with dishes from around Indian prepared by the chefs at little food stations. A must!
We also went to the Fisherman’s Feast (main restaurant) which was extremely good. Loads of wonderful sushi, crab dishes, salads and other cold appetizers and a wide selection of warm main courses from the buffet or prepared by the chefs to your liking followed by a yummy dessert buffet.
The Italian restaurant is located at the other side of the island. It offers delicious pizzas and other dishes for lunch and great Italian gourmet food for dinners. During dinner we could watch reef sharks being fed which was a very exciting experience, especially for our son.
The two bars are wonderful for sunset drinks or little snacks if one does not feel like a full dinner one evening.
Breakfast buffet in the main restaurant is very good with a wide selection. Try the banana pancakes!

SPA
The SPA is located at its own island just off the beach. I enjoyed the signature massage the day after arrival (wonderful) and a body ritual with peeling and a body wrap another day. Both wonderful. Make sure to arrive a bit early for your treatments to enjoy the surroundings and the refreshing cold lime/ginger tea.

Overall
A wonderful week at this paradise island which was followed by another wonderful week at the other Maldivian Four Seasons resort. For us, a week was perfect length of stay. We felt that this gave us the chance to see and do the things we wanted to, eat new things every day, but we were excited to leave for the next resort after this.
