Stayed from Feb 23th to March 4th in a beach villa. The island, the reef, the design of the villas and the other buildingss of the hotel is great but unfortunately service is lower than expectations for a brand like Park Hyatt, supposed to be at the top end. In comparison, we stayed previous years in W Hotel, Boduhiti and Kanuhura and service in these 3 was better. Some examples of things to improve: food: the menu list is very short and really poor quality so after 10 days you really get bored of having explored all the options.... and so little fish for a restaurant in an island! First time in my Maldives experiences that I see a hotel in supply shortage: no salad for a couple of days, no orange, no lime etc, i.e. supply poorly managed. Room cleaning is good but misses the extra you find in similar luxury hotels: for e.g. beach towels often not collected, private sun beds not cleaned up at night, dead leaves from the trees not cleaned up on the beach etc. Not to mention that works are carried out in the main restaurant and that I was never told beforehand.... Well, no big deal eventually but still some improvement required.

Room Tip: from 20 to 28

My husband and I just returned back to nyc after spending one of the best weeks of our lives at the Park Hyatt Maldives in mid Feb 2012. With over 30 hours of travel each way to and from the resort, our expectations were high and the Park Hyatt went above and beyond anything we could have imagined. To share our experiences and recommendations:

Pros:

Transportation:
Since this was our first visit to the Maldives, we had very little idea what to expect in this area. With the current political instability in Male, we were especially concerned about how it might affect our experiences on the trip. It turned out that our worries were in vain. The Park Hyatt arranged every detail and made us feel confident on every leg of our journey. Although our flight arrived around 11 pm Male time, there was a friendly hotel rep waiting to greet us the second we got off the plane. We then had a short layover at MLE and took a 1 hour flight to the small KDM airport in the Southern atolls where another friendly hotel rep drove us (via golf cart) to a luxury speedboat where we took a 55 minute boat ride to Hadahaa. Upon arrival at 2 am, our excellent personal host Shaheen greeted us at the dock, gave us a brief tour (via golf cart) and led us to our beach pool villa with cool welcome drinks waiting. At every moment on our journey the hotel was great with communication and made us feel comfortable and safe.

Accommodations:
We stayed in the pool villa (#6) that had a beautiful clear view of the ocean and a nice plunge pool that overlooked the pristine beach. Although not as much privacy as several of the other beach villas that are covered by a thicker jungle foliage, this one offered breathtaking views pretty much all day and we loved cooling off in the pool after hours of swimming in the ocean. The villas are all amazing- clean, organic design with outdoor shower areas and Hyatt’s typically heavenly beds. Great attention to preserving the natural environment with glass bottles for water and x If one is an avid diver or snorkeler, the over the water villas are unparalleled with direct ocean access. The villas are thoroughly cleaned twice a day and we loved the evening treats our host would bring us along with agenda options and activities for the remainder of our stay.

Activities/ Excursions:
Although this is a secluded resort being the only thing on the island, there is never a shortage of activities for the adventurous (or the lazy). We highly recommend a few activities but a “must do” would be the day excursion to a local island with a few other couples where we got to meet one of the Hyatt employee’s families in the village, saw how the Maldivian inhabitants sustained their lifestyle in this remote part of the world, drank water from fresh coconuts, and had a beautiful guided snorkeling tour in the most beautiful coral reefs we have ever seen. Throughout our day we were constantly reminded at the warmth and generous nature of the Maldivian people through the staff that guided us and the residents we met.

Food:
The 3 course breakfast included for every guest is unbelievable. After we rolled out of bed and took a quick swim on the beach, we would head to the main restaurant for breakfast. Before the meal starts, the server will bring out a beautiful selection of fruits, traditional Maldivian tuna roshi, and pastries. You then have the option of appetizers, brunch items (eggs, etc), and a main course that features local delights like tuna curry or noodle dishes. The breakfasts are by far, the highlight of our culinary experiences. In addition we recommend the scallops, Kafka Tagine meatballs, and rice pudding from Battutas.

Staff:
By far, this hotel has the most attentive and professional staff I have ever seen. We have travelled all over the world, stayed at some truly high end hotels, and found this staff to be the best. What impressed us even more than the staff’s impeccable service (from the dining service to the guided tours) was the warmth and openness of every staff member we met. The resident marine biologist Arabelle shared fascinating information about the philosophy of sustainability and eco- preservation the island maintains. Inah, our snorkeling guide, took extra time of his own to take us around the local reefs and show us a wonderful look at the underwater life (we attribute him to our new obsession with snorkeling). Every waiter took the time to find out our preferences and Samuel, our server for our honeymoon dinner on the beach, gave us some of the best service of my life (and I waited tables for over a decade in nyc and definitely know fine dining). The staff is intelligent, thoughtful, and kind and made it most definitely hard to say goodbye.

** The staff also called ahead to the Hyatt in Singapore where we were staying on our return trip and upon arrival, we had a lovely site in the room waiting for us with congratulatory honeymoon wine and chocolates truffles. Now THAT is service that goes beyond expectations.

Cons:
Very few. The only one we really noticed that while the majority of the food was quite good and beautifully presented, there were a few dishes that lacked flavor and needed slight adjustments. After a week of dining at two main restaurants, there were only a few dishes that we thought needed a little work (The crab salad was tasteless). That being said, when we mentioned it to the Food and Beverage director Diana on the shift, she and other staff were quick to ask for suggestions and alter a dish to make it better suited to our needs. It is obvious that the hotel values its guests’ opinions and will go to great lengths to make any necessary adjustments needed.

Leaving. The biggest con of all was leaving our week of beautiful memories and amazing personalities. Hopefully we’ll make it back to this amazing haven.

Room Tip: We loved pool villa 6- not as private as some but GORGEOUS views of ocean and reefs.

Dear ChristyBK,
Thank you so much for your very kind review of our resort and are delighted to have exceeded both your and your husband’s expectations.
We appreciate that the journey time can be quite long for some of our guests who are traveling from afar so we always do our utmost in ensuring that they have a smooth transfer from Male down to KDM airport and then onto our resort by speed boat. The journey though, is absolutely worth it.
We are very glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay in our Park Pool Villa. As a resort we are incredibly lucky to have a pristine beach constantly encircling our island with each land villa having its own private access point to the sea- this is down to our abundant coral reef which holds all the sand in. Due to the nature of our resort we are also very cautious of our carbon footprint and so being environmentally friendly is a must if we want to protect our natural landscape, so as you mentioned we bottle all of our water and also treat all our waste on site.
We strive to tailor-make all excursions to suit individual guest requests, be it going on a fishing trip, having a picnic on an uninhabited island or going dolphin spotting. We are pleased to hear that you experienced our local island visit and got a good insight into Maldivian culture and their way of life. We have also recently launched a community program with several of our neighbouring islands which enables our local staff to continue to contribute to their communities despite living away from home and in turn increasing our connectivity and relationship with these islands.
As for food, I will personally inform our Chefs that you both enjoyed our selection of dishes and juices for our breakfast menu and will praise our waiters and waitresses for providing you with great dining experiences in both our restaurants. We are proud to have such warm and friendly staff here on the island from Arabella, our Resident Marine Biologist, to Samuel, our waiter. It truly is a pleasure to work with such a great team who are devoted to providing our guests with experiences they will never forget and memories that they will cherish forever.
All of the team here at Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa would like to thank you for choosing to spend your honeymoon with us and we will hope to welcome you back again soon.
Warmest regards,
Pierre

We stayed at Park Hyatt Hadahaa in early December 2011 for a week. This was the sixth time we visited Maldives and Park Hyatt Hadahaa is undoubtedly the best compared to the other resorts we have visited, such as Soneva Gili, Anantara and several others. We were staying at Park Water Villa, the design of the room is modern and very functional. The house reef is absolutely amazing as it is very well conserved, perhaps one of the best in Maldives. You have to see it yourself to believe it. There are a lot of corals right below our water villa and marine life around us was stunning. We didn’t’ have to snorkel far, perhaps less than 30 meters from our water villa, and we spotted lobsters of about 1.5 feet (body size), sting rays and turtles. As this is Park Hyatt, we expected very high service level and indeed the hotel did not disappoint us. Our host Shifaz is very attentive and made our stay very comfortable. The diving experience was superb. We started off with 2 dives at the house reef, it was absolutely beautiful. Boat dives was well organized and we were the only 2 divers on board and we decided where we wanted to dive. Light snacks, coffee and teas were provided for in between the dives. The 2nd last day before left, we saw 1 manta, 2 leopard sharks, a school of 15 eagle rays, at least 20 turtles (one of them was swimming with us for almost 3 minutes), many grey reef sharks, napoleons, sting rays. We enjoyed that dive site so much that we even repeated our 2nd dive there and it was equally amazing. As we returned to the boat after that, we even saw 3 pilot whales at the outer reef not far from our boat. This topped the best diving experience I had as a advance diver for more than 10 years. Thanks Ashfaq for bringing us these wonderful diving experiences. Glad that we don’t have to wait too long as we are visiting Park Hyatt Hadahaa again in early April 2012.

Room Tip: All the water villas are equal in size and same layout.

Dear Jonathan C,
Thank you so much for your wonderful review of our beautiful resort and we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us. We do strive to offer our guests the highest luxury service and it is something we genuinely enjoy delivering.
We are very pleased that you had the opportunity to experience our beautiful Water Villa- it truly is an amazing feeling when you look out from the villa and all you can see is the crystal clear blue ocean.
Our house reef is unique and very special, without a doubt the most important feature of our island and certainly something you have to see to believe. In fact, research published at the end of 2010 found that our house reef had the greatest live coral cover of any of the reef system across the Maldives. The abundance of different species of fish that the coral attracts really is extraordinary and we are pleased to hear that you spotted one of our resident Hawksbill turtles, unfortunately a critically endangered species.
Thank you for your comments about Shifaz and Ashfaq, I will be sure to congratulate them both for there efforts, more hidden gems of which we are very proud.
You are most welcome any time to come back and visit and we very much look forward to trying to make your experience even better!
Once again, thank you so much for your review and for having chosen the Park Hyatt for your Maldivian adventure!
Warmest regards- Pierre

I had a weeklong points stay here over New Year and it was just wonderful. Having read every one of the reviews I was pretty sure it would be great, and can confirm the old reviews don’t reflect the current state of the Resort. I'd love to go back again!

We stayed in both a Beach villa and Water Villa for part of our stay. Both are beautiful and offer very different experiences - I’m glad we tried both. Don't assume that the Water Villas are "the Best" because they're the most expensive - they're amazing and different but if you're more a beach person then Beach or Pool villa's may suit you better. Personally i loved snorkeling right off the Water villa's - we had small sharks, an Eagle Ray and all kinds of fish swim right by us.

Staff here are very friendly and helpful – from the GM down we had nothing but great, friendly service. When problems did arise they were fixed quickly and to our satisfaction.

Food is good. Not great but good. The hotel seems to be aware of this and staff mentioned that they were making changes. Breakfast is the best - very substantial and a lot of choices. Lunch is where I felt they fell flat – the all-day menu is more suited for dinner than lunch and I hope they work on this. I'd like to see lighter choices on the menu - sushi, sandwiches, simple fresh grilled fish for example. As others have said, prices are expensive - comparable to eating at an upmarket restaurant in NYC - but considering the location it is to be expected.

Activities are great and varied. My wife described her diving as some of the best she’s ever seen and snorkeling was great also. Our favorite activity was the “Private Island” – 4 hours total, private boat takes you out to a private island where lunch and wine/champagne are waiting. They leave you here and return to collect you.

Also, I recommend the guided snorkeling. You spend time with the resident marine biologist learning about the reef then she accompanies you snorkeling – well worth it.

A couple of random points

Transfers from Male. Depending on your flights in and out of Male you may have quite a bit of waiting in the lounge in Male – nothing the resort can do about this as there are only a few flights daily but it does add to your journey time so be aware of it.

The Spa was operating as usual while we were there – despite reports about closures ordered by the Maldivian government. The new Hyatt operated Spa apparently took over at the beginning of December and offers Maldivian focused treatments. My wife tried it and enjoyed her service – they’re not cheap but in line with typical NYC prices.

New Gym equipment was put in place in late December, the Gym was closed a couple of days we were there to accommodate this. The new equipment looks good. The gym is on the small side but surrounded by glass so doesn’t feel constricting at all – and it’s not heavily used from what I could see.

Dear bradcnyc,
Thank you so much for your kind words. We are delighted that you had the opportunity to experience both our land and water villas. They both offer a unique experience.
Thank you also for your wonderful comments about my team. I am delighted to hear that they lived up to your expectations and I will pass on the message to them all. We always strive to provide our guests with an exceptional service where all your worries are taken care of.
As for food, we are glad to hear that you enjoyed the breakfast. We are in the middle of making changes to our all-day menu where we will offer lighter dishes for lunch. We hope you can return so you can sample them yourselves!
The other activities that we offer are something which makes us unique to other resorts. We are pleased to hear that your wife enjoyed her scuba diving adventure and we are so lucky to be in a place where the underwater landscape is as plentiful and untouched. Arabella, our resident marine biologist, is always so informative about the hidden delights of the ocean! Our tailor made excursions like the picnic and snorkel trip on an uninhabited island is an experience like no other and we are pleased to hear that you enjoyed yourselves. If you manage to come back again you should experience some of our other excursions like our traditional Maldivian fishing trip or our sunset cruise aboard our luxury yacht.
The Vidhun Spa is always popular amongst our guests and we are pleased that your wife sampled the traditional Maldivian rituals and treatments that we have on offer.
Although we are located in such a remote part of the world, the journey time can be quite long but we ensure you that when you arrive on our island you will blown away by it’s beauty and tranquility.
Once again thank you so much for your kind review and for having chosen the Park Hyatt for your holiday. We very much hope to welcome you back soon!

Warmest regards - Pierre

My husband and I had just returned from our Honeymoon and we absolutely loved Hyatt Hadahaa. We arrived at Male international airport where a Hyatt representative met us. After that, we took a 1 hour flight followed by a 45 minutes speed boat to reach the island. During the ride on the speed boat, the crew of 5 men constantly asked if I felt ok as I was prone to seasickness. Upon arrival, the staff of the hotel met us right on the jetty with buggies and it was very welcoming.

The villas are absolutely beautiful!!! Big bedroom with a living area and a well-stocked mini bar, separated by a sliding door from the huge bathroom. It is a spacious room with built in wardrobes, huge bath tub (accommodates 2 adults very comfortably), a rain shower, brightly lit mirrors, etc. We were really impressed by the comfort and the amenities of the room. We also received letters of invitation from the management of the hotel, informing us of special events organised each night.

The staff are extremely attentive yet unobtrusive. Our personal host was great and looked after us throughout our stay. He did everything for us - booking the Spa, making dinner arrangements, planning sea excursions etc. So, we literally did not have to lift a finger to do anything, except dial our personal host’s mobile phone from our in-room cordless phone. Incidentally, the cordless phone came in handy as I was hanging out a lot at the patio outside the room. I was able to leave the phone next to me while I was sunbathing outside the villa. The food was fantastic and we were well looked after in all the restaurants. If you wanted something which is not on the menu, they will cook it for you upon request. There were several items I was not to eat on doctor’s orders and the kitchen staff were very accommodating.

The house reef has lots of healthy coral, fishes etc. I managed a few snorkelling trips which was excellent. I think it's also worth mentioning that internet access is free. Other complimentary treats include afternoon tea & cakes served daily at the Doni at 4pm, and cocktails for Hyatt Diamond members at Bells Bar at sundown. The sophisticated telescope in the library is also available on loan to view the exquisite stars and star constellations that come out at night. Don’t miss the spectacular sighting of the universe in the sky, unfortunately we were not aware of the telescope till the last day. The island is not very big, but yet we hardly ever bumped into anyone else except during breakfast! It seemed as if we were on our own private island most of the time. Hadahaa and its 360-degree views of the surrounding ocean are breathtakingly beautiful. The ambience we felt on the island, thanks to its architecture and service staff, was unforgettable. We could barely bear to leave the paradise island retreat at the end of our stay.

In a nutshell, we had a splendid time and would recommend it to anyone looking for a luxurious escape. We definitely will be back next year!

Room Tip: The aqua villas are best for catching the sunset, and the low-numbered villas on the other side of the island are best for watching the sunrise.

Dear Tintedpurple,
Thank you for your wonderful review of our beautiful resort. I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay and my team and I lived up to your expectations.
I have made a note to ensure we do make all guests aware of our telescope, thank you for pointing this out. One of the truly remarkable features of the resort is our proximity to the equator, enabling us to view the star patterns of both the northern and southern hemispheres; it really is a sight to be seen. The fact we have no light pollution or environmental pollution in our sky only adds to the clarity and proliferation of stars you can see in the sky of an evening, yet another of natures remarkable gifts.
I will be sure to pass your comments on to your personal host, on his behalf thank you for your kind words. Our aim is that you simply do as little or as much as you choose and really unwind and relax whilst you are with us. Our part of the world is too special not take time to stop and fully appreciate.
Please do let me know when you are ready to visit us again, we have been making a number of improvements to the facilities on the island and we know these will only further enhance this jewel we are so blessed to be able to share with you.
With warmest regards - Pierre
