Good:
Rooms nice
Food great
Almost no Russians
Very friendly stuff

Bad:
No fish, very few, very prosaic, coral reefs are dead
October - 50% raining time
Grass all over the shore, dirty water during wavy time
Only clean water near ship point, but crazily wavy!!! All the time
Doesn't worth going if you want to enjoy fish and corals;(((

A fantastic resort, stayed here for two weeks in Feb (apologies this is a late review!)

The lagoon is great because it makes for safe snorkelling, we swam out to the desert island and you can even book a private meal there- paradise.

Food is great, staff are happy, spa is good, the beach was out of this world- what more could you want from a holiday!

Thank you for a great trip.

I spent 2 days in this hotel and really it was a pure joy, everytime we think of staying in 5 stars hotels because we think all will be perfect with the money we spend. But Olhuveli had a perfect vegetation, smilling staffs, great food, small but cosy and romantic rooms, great island!!! Really I wanted to stay more but work was calling..... I met the French GM, Philippe Frugere and his immediates supervisors, really great people! Well done guys!!!!!

Room Tip: Mine was the lowest standard, but really great, everything was were it is suppose to be even the birds and fruit bats....................

I would describe the Olhuveli as a budget resort, reasonably priced, however, there you really get what you pay for, which, being not much, is not much. Let's see the pros and cons:

PROs: Short transfer via boat from airport. Reasonably priced resort with the option of HB, FB or all inclusive. The food was good, the breakfast and dinner buffet had a reasonable variety of dishes. Please note that beverages, including water, are not included unless you are on all inclusive. Clean rooms, attentive room boys, kind staff. Nice restaurants and bars offering a variety of eating options.

CONs:
1) location and the other two islands - the pictures on the resort's website misrepresent the real situation and location of the island. There are two other islands on the north side of the island. The first is quite small, We have been told that it belongs to the resort, yet you cannot reach it, because, although within swimming distance, first staff will tell you that you are not allowed to go by yourself (but I have been told that they will take you there for a fee, er...), and secondly there is a very strong current flowing right between the two islands that could really drag you down or off the coast, so swimming there by yourself can be dangerous. The worst is the second island on the north side, which is facing the "staff quarters". I don't quite understand what is going on on that island but whatever it is, it looks nothing like paradise Maldives, in fact it is everything you want to get away from when booking a holiday in the Maldives. There is a massive, ugly 2-storey concrete construction going on and huge amounts of rubbish. You are probably not even expected to have a look at the north side of the Olhuveli island itself, but if you do, you will be shocked. It's dirty, there is rubbish everywhere and local boats anchored. This means that, contrary to most resorts in the Maldives, you cannot walk all around the tiny island and enjoy a "360-degree view", but your walks are very much confined to the beach right in front of the villas, from A to B. The north and north-west side of the island where the staff headquarters are located are not accessible to tourists and outright undesirable.

2) strangely enough, the two desolate rocks that they call the "house-reef" are located right next to the arrival/departure dock, which means that the very few fishes are scared off by the ongoing coming and going of speed-boats and tourists are not really safe themselves swimming there. Staff will tell you to swim only on the left side of the dock, but again, that's right next to the boats. The "house-reef" is pretty much not existing in comparison to other resorts and a big, big disappointment.

3) where to swim? So, not in the north (ugly, dirty off-limit area), not in the north-east (strong currents between the main and the small island), not much in the east (sunrise) due to eternal low tide (good for small children with those 40 cm water) and some boats parked there (can they not keep it on the "rubbish" side of the island with the other boats?), not much in the south (strong currents at the tip of the island), ok-ish in front of the swimming pool on the west side (but no reef nearby there), somehow in the west with the "house reef" next to the dock, not in the north-west (again, semi-abandoned area with rubbish on the beach).

4) Silence please! I am not sure why management feels the need to have super-loud music at one bar three times a week bombarding the whole tiny resort. There is no escape from the music until 1 AM wherever you are and I promise you, you will not be able to sleep. That's sooo not my idea of relaxing holiday.

5) Internet? Forget about it! Internet is not free, in fact the Internet rates are extortionate and I understand that the connection is incredibly slow and not worth the money. So be prepared to do without it.

6) Unhappy birds in a cage - not my idea of nature! There is a private residence on the island, right next to the SPA on the east side. I have been told that it belongs to the owner of the resort. This is another "off-limit" area for tourists. Right next to the residence there is an outdoor cage with some very unhappy-looking parrots and other birds. Staff told me that the owner is very fond of birds and keeps refilling the cage as the poor creatures keep dying. Appalling. I don't get why a private residence should be located right in the middle of an already very small resort and also display animals in distress. So, animal lovers, I encourage you to book elsewhere and boycott this place.

Summary: This place has an average 80% occupancy by Chinese tourists on special all-inclusive packages, so not many Western tourists go there. The resort is certainly very convenient in comparison to other islands, but I would not recommend it unless you don't care about any of the points above.

Room Tip: Water villas on the east side face the low tide but have little or no breeze; water villas on the west side enjoy a nice breeze but are exposed to rougher sea and the noise of crashing waves.

Went to the Maldives for our 25th wedding anniversary having picked Olhuveli mostly on the reviews on trip advisor and the pictures of the island.

We travelled direct with BA which was very good on service and cost. On arriving at Male we were met by the hotel staff and immediately escorted to the boat for the 45 minute speedboat ride to the island.

Once at the island we were shown to the reception and given some information about the All Inclusive package and a welcome drink, after a short wait we were taken to our room a Deluxe Villa on the sunrise side of the island. The room was perfect with a huge four poster bed, nice bathroom and terrace looking out to the beach.

The sunrise side of the island is very sheltered from the wind (be very careful on your 1st couple of days when sun bathing) there were plenty of sunbeds all with cushions, you are given beach towels which means you don't have to take them with you, cutting down the weight on your luggage.

All the meals on all inclusive are in the sunset restaurant which has 2 of the most lovely girls (Rinulka & Jiotti) meeting you and showing you to your table, the buffet style is very well presented with a good choice of food for all tastes, the only complaint is that the food never seemed to be really hot, only warm unless you had the stir fry or pasta which was cooked for you on the spot.

Overall the food and setting is very good and on most occasions you can get a table by the window, remember to take plenty of $1 bills to tip your waiter (they only earn $250 a month) and they work very hard to make sure you have everything you want to make your holiday special.

The infinity pool at the Donie Bar was our favourite location as you have the best of both worlds with the beach and crystal clear waters, or the pool to swim in and there is a nice breeze to cool you down, the staff at the bar are very attentive and if you make the effort to get to know them they will tell you all about the island and the Maldives. Even getting your sunbed ready before you get there !!

The island is very quiet, not sure if that was the time we visited (we were told it was 80% full) but you just don't see anyone which is lovely, the only thing to do is relax, relax & relax. Which was exactly what we wanted.

On our anniversary we went to the spa for the couples romance at Olhuveli, which was fantastic, first you go into the steam room, then the sauna, this is followed by your own "freezing" cold plunge pool and hot plunge pool in a private courtyard. Then onto the private open air room for your massage, which is also fantastic, this is followed by a romantic rose petal bath and a glass of wine - perfect.

In the evening we booked to have a private dinner on the beach, it is not cheap and the food is good (not great) but the setting is absolutely priceless, private candle lit table, chef and waiter what a way to celebrate your anniversary.

On returning to our room, our room attendant had decorated our bed with a lovely decoration with rose petals, we had a cake and bottle of wine as well, which we shared around the pool the next day, all in all a perfect day to celebrate our 25th.

The diving and snorkelling are very good as the water is very shallow, only up to your waist. The fish are outstanding with all types and colours, it really is like putting your head into an aquarium !!

Overall Olhuveli is a fantastic place for a relaxing holiday or romantic get away for that special occasion.

All the staff are very friendly and helpful and make you feel very special, thanks to all of them

Would I recommend this hotel/island, YES most definately, truely magical.

Room Tip: Sunrise Deluxe rooms are perfect
