The most memorable part of our stay was the hospitality of the staff at the resort. They were friendly, warm and accommodating. We came as strangers and left as friends. The guys at the restaurants really treated us like we have known each other for a long time. Never fail to offer that warm smile and greetings, making us feel at home. The food was great and fancy though expensive but that is understandable for Maldives. Very nice resort and the room was spotless. We will definitely be back again.

Room Tip: We had room 815 which is perfect. In fact all their room are nicely situated as all rooms are over w...

Great hospitality from the team at Cocoa Island from the dive master Takashi-san to the GM, Laurent Sola. Been to quite a few resorts in Maldives from Kuda Huraa to Park Hyatt(previously Alila), but the compactness of the island and the amazing reef drop-off less than 100 metres swim from the rooms provide a total package, and yet without feeling overcrowded with fellow guests.

Cocoa Island is a quick 35 minute boat ride from Male Airport, and within no time you are in your room ready for the sun, beach and snorkelling. Did a refresher dive course, with over 20 dive sites to choose from. Do look out for 'Abdulla', the one-legged heron which is always by the restaurant.

The overwater villas are beautiful. Ours looks like a traditional dhoni boat, the smallest and cheapest of all the villas here, but we moved into a bigger Loft at the end of our stay. More expensive but definitely worth every dime. There's a deck in the back and you can step into the water. The bigger lofts have an outdoor shower while the dhoni suite doesn't.

The dishes we had at the restaurant had been very good. They are expensive but quite yummy. A pizza was $28 while a nasi goreng was $30. We loved the coconut! The seafood platter was amazing! Totally worth ordering. We decided not to get half or full boards and just pay a la carte. The choices at breakfast were plentiful and we had a good helping. We got a plate of tropical fruits every day in our room. Lovely touch!

For our baby, we ordered from the free infant menu. We placed an order half an hour before showing up at the restaurant and it was ready to eat when we got there. Made fresh. The ingredients were healthy and there were some choices. There were sand toys for our baby to play and bread to feed fish. She loved it!

We loved it!

We really could not find fault in this place - I think we found paradise! From the moment we stepped out of the plane and were greeted by Tammi at the airport, perfection started. Firstly, a fab boat ride to the island with a great crew on hand with cold towels and water. We were then warmly welcomed by a very nice and lovely GM, Laurent at the pier. His lovely attitude has obviously filtered down through to the staff who are just happy, warm, caring, friendly and very service oriented. We feel there is a certain pride in the staff because everyone knows they have something special in Cocoa Island and we genuinely felt that they cared and seem to want the guests to have a special time.

The dhoni suite we stayed in was pristine with a chic beach house feel to it. Very organic in its use of wood and natural materials, very tactile and in tune with its surroundings at the same time very stylish and luxurious. The same goes for all the buildings in the resort - they made very little use of cold materials like concrete or metal - only where it is needed and this is fantastic. The suite was immaculately cleaned twice a day including turn down service. The toiletries provided are to die for. And of course, being overwater, you have access to the crystal clear waters teeming with sea life.

Food is excellent - the standard a very high quality. Honestly, one of the best seafood dinners we've had. We also had the meat platter cooked in a tandoor oven and the meat was tasty and tender - superb. Also had one of the best fish curries here. Breakfasts were a treat - the best eggs benedict, eggs royale and french toast - all ingredients freshly cooked, well presented and tasty. There is a very good selection in the breakfast buffet. We like that there are healthy options for all meal times which add to the wholesomeness of the resort. There is also a fab array of cocktails in the bar - great whilst gazing on those beautiful sunsets. Vijay, the restaurant manager is lovely - he always made sure we were well looked after. Always on hand for a chat - caring but unobtrusive. The same for all his staff.

Activities were plenty and varied. We tried a yoga session in the open air yoga pavilion and a fun and exhilarating hydrotherapy pool session - all both therapeutic and relaxing. Fantastic service from staff and great facilities. The Cocoa Shambala Spa was really good too. We booked the Cocoa Shambala Signature massage for 90mins and felt amazing afterwards.

Snorkelling and other water sports were superb. Cocoa Island have a great house reef. It is very conveniently located and you don't have to travel far to experience amazing sea life - you have a nice healthy coral reef teeming with different coloured fish. Manta ray and baby sharks abound and we even saw a moray eel. We highly recommend booking night snorkelling (we went with Zippe who was great). This is a different experience and you see different sea life. We were lucky enough to spot an octopus and a sea snake, lion fish and a crab on our night. Really cool! All snorkelling equipment is complimentary during your stay and of good quality. We also kayaked around the island which was so much fun!

The ambiance and overall feel of the island - small but immaculate and pristine with white powdery sand, crystal clear water, and amazing sea life. The scenery, breathtaking.

If you want the blingy, 'wow-factor', in your face luxury of a huge resort, then Cocoa Island unfortunately is not for you but if you want sophisticated understated luxury, a handful of discerning guests, authenticity with heart and soul then this will be your idea of paradise too.

It won't be a surprise based on what we've written that we would definitely go back in a heartbeat. No question about it.

On a final note, thank you to everyone at Cocoa Island - our time with you will stay in our hearts and minds for a very long time.

We had our honeymoon at Cocoa Island and fantastic doesn't do the place justice. The water and sand is just divine. This is expected in Maldives. What really makes this property special is the staff. Every single one was friendly, respectful and helpful. The list is endless from Adil, Vijay, Moosa, Sumeet, Abbas...etc. Our favorite staff was Ahmed who was great beyond description. Too bad he had to head home halfway through our stay. The GM Laurent greeted us when we arrived and Assistant GM, Gustini sent us off. They really run a superb place and should be proud of their staff.

We are also highly appreciate of the hotel's gesture to give us a super late checkout on the day we departed. That's what make us feel special, they went beyond what was required demonstrating that they understand the importance of making guest happy.

The only issue we had was the weather (which is of course beyond anyone's control). We stayed a full week and had perfect weather for the first 4 days but on the last 3 days had to mostly stay indoors as it was super windy and raining non stop. We feel blessed that we did most of the activities early on. Had we waited towards the end of our stay, we wouldn't have been as happy. The aqua therapy and spa are great indoor activities but not something that you want to do every day for a week.

We also recommend that guest stay in the villa nearer to the jetty near the restaurant. It's a good 4-5 minutes walk from our villa (803) which is great if the weather is cooperating. But with the strong wind and rain, it's quite challenging to get to the restaurant if you're staying on the other end (starting from 801). I suppose any villa above 808 would be quite central to the restaurant and reception.

Overall we had such a fantastic time that we're already planning our second visit next year and this time we'll bring family members. We want them to see the place for themselves because only then will they believe how great it is.

This is our first trip to the Maldives and like many, the beauty of this place took our breaths away. The pristine waters are exactly what you see on postcards and NatGeo. The island is a 40min boat ride from the international airport so it is very convenient to get on the resort. Food is great and I recommend the Maldivian curry for breakfast and the wife loved the miso soup. Weather was not so good during our stay there from 18 to 22 August 2014 as it was extremely windy & cloudy and rained most of the time (we managed to catch a total of maybe 6 hours of sunshine the whole trip). We enjoyed the trip despite the weather. Things we did: snorkeled at the house reef (complimentary gear that you can keep in the room for the entire stay); Indian head massage (AMAZING); hydrobath pool (we were there almost everyday). There are optional trips out of the island which we did not take. We look forward to returning to Maldives again!

Our three generation family has been fortunate to stay at Cocoa for week-long holidays over the last three years. We did return twice in one of those years, but are trying to restrict ourselves to an annual visit, for fear of becoming addicted to such perfection!

The island has everything that one would typically look for in the Maldives. Powder white sand, finest in the shallow lagoon but still smooth around the rest of the island. A few seashells to satisfy beachcombers. A long sand spit for romantic walks. Shallow warm lagoons on the one side for the younger kids to paddle it, steeper drops for older kids to play with waves. And of course, the coral reef which is concentrated on one side (with two resident turtles) and more scattered and wilder on the other side (with surprisingly different inhabitants). With such natural beauty, how can man keep up?

Well, man does very well indeed. The over-water villas, wood-crafted, are solidly made in a luxurious yet simple style. The weathered wooden walkways are well-maintained and smooth enough for bare feet to run on. The food is excellent, the one restaurant turning out a wide variety of dishes so that one does not get bored. The childrens' menu has typical but quality food to appeal to little ones, the Como menu caters to the health-conscious and the regular menu suits all palates. I am terribly fussy about food but would happily dine at Cocoa's restaurant even if it were situated in a city with other restaurant choices. The weekly seafood barbecue is a real highlight.

The staff are uniformly friendly and helpful, and there has been an tangible improvement in service levels since we first visited 3 years ago, particularly in the efficiency of restaurant service - kudos to Vijay! I am still amazed by how the room staff clear the room of sand tracked in by little feet, without a vacuum cleaner. The villas are spotless!

There are many places to visit in this world, but we cannot do without our perfect annual family holiday at Cocoa.
