I recently visited The Bell with my family for the first time since the change of owner. When we walked in, we noticed there was a much nicer, more welcoming atmosphere than before. We didn't book, and were pretty lucky to get a table as at 6pm there were already a few families eating. I noticed immediately there was a focus on local produce on the menu, something that was really refreshing to see. I even found out later that the free range eggs my sister had were laid by the owner's chickens!
We each had different meals, all from the specials board. Having special dietary requirements is always tricky when eating out, but the chef was more than happy to alter the dish for me. The steak was absolutely wonderful, cooked to perfection and just the right amount. Everyone else thoroughly enjoyed the food too, which hasn't happened in a long time!
After our meal the owner showed us the project he was working on outside, where he has started to keep his own chickens, quails, vegetables and herbs to use in the restaurant. Local produce doesn't get much better than that!
All in all, the food was brilliant and the service to match. I'll definitely be visiting again!
