“suprised !”
Reviewed March 16, 2013

brilliant day out for the winter, on a wet day. Staff were excellent and informative and friendly. So much to read, and look at. I took 3 children, (7,8, and 14) all were interested. There was a question sheet for the children to go round with collecting answers if they wanted with clip board and pen. Everything was well lit and displayed so nicely. Loved the 'spy' stuff. Could have spent a really long time looking at all the guns. Old stuff, new stuff, intricate stuff taken apart to see inside, ....was great. Original medical gear - a bit gruesome with the amputations etc... my kids loved that... They've all covered Florence Nightingale in school, so was excited to read about her here.
Was def worth a visit to this place....don't be fooled by the small front and the out of the way place where this is....
There are toilets (up and down), vending machines up stairs and seating scattered about if you get tired, there is a lift, I was charged £14 i think ? for one adult and 3 kids. Compared to bowling, cinema, other wet day things.....educational is how I'd rather spend the money, the kids loved trying on a few of the hats/helmets too on the upper floor. You can also have tea and biscuits with 'real' tea downstairs in reception if you like. There are other things to buy in the gift shop section to do with 'war', and good books.

“An amazing museum”
Reviewed March 7, 2013

I'm not really into military museums, but my friend is, and so we drove to Maldon to visit this one.

Surprisingly easy to find and in a surprising location - at the end of an industrial estate!

Parking is free and easily accessible but don't be deceived by the small frontage, this is one museum that belies its exterior, for inside are three floors of military memorabilia and artefacts covering over 400 years of warfare. and well displayed as well as being well-identified - no guessing what the exhibits are here!

Refreshments here are limited to two vending machines with two tables and chairs - really only for the desparately thirsty and the desparately hungry!

Overall an excellent museum, however don't forget the big stuff outside and beside the museum.

Reviewed March 2, 2013

Located at the end of an industrial estate this was truly an amazing find. A collection of military history covering many generation but retaining a local feel and all owned by one man. It is a must for anyone who has even the slightest interest in history especially local history. Great value and a rewarding experience!

“How did one man collect that lot?”
Reviewed January 18, 2013

There's an enormous variety of stuff from the 17th to 21st century. Particularly interesting was a collection of cold-war spy stuff.

“Surprising Good!”
Reviewed January 12, 2013 via mobile

Visited the museum today and was very impressed by the quantity, quality and extent of the displays. The museum has exhibits from Roman to the modern day. For me the most interesting was the spy items with lipsticks that were guns and pens that concealed daggers, real life James Bond! We spent 2 hours but could easily have spent longer.
