We drove from the northern lake region, passed Bariloche and headed south to El Bolson. We had no idea where this place was exactly, no address and no directions. There is no real address, so we asked a stranger on the street if they could make the phone call for us (we had no cell). We thought Bolson was small enough to figure it out! The host, Horacio, a native Argentinian who studied and lived in Berkley, CA for many years, gave us left and right turn directions with landmarks. We drove up a long, curvy dirt road up a mountain following signs they placed with arrows to guide their guests. Good thing it wasn't dark yet! But when you arrive, it is heaven! Horacio and wife, Kitty, also from Berkley, both artists, greeted us like long lost family. We brought our own wine and finished the bottle with them at their large, beautiful wooden dining table. If you don't mind the dirt road climb, this is the place to be!

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet in this mountain retreat.

We spent 3 nights with Horatio and Kitty in their lovely B&B and they could not have been more welcoming. The B&B is out of the main town and up on the hillside which means it has great views across the valley and is a good base for the sculptured forest and Cerro Piltriquitron mountain. The breakfasts were amazing and had to be, as the beds are very comfortable! Over our 3 days we enjoyed Pancakes, raspberry scones, banana muffins, fresh coffee and delicious yoghurt! All hand made and freshly prepared. Horatio and Kitty were very helpful with advice and full of great stories. A charming B&B that should not be missed.

On a side trip from Bariloche, we decided to visit the El Bolson market and spend a night at the Buena Vida Social Club B&B. The market was great, but quite hot and hectic (Jan 2013) so our delight was immense when we arrived at the B&B located up higher on a forested quiet and cooler hill overlooking the town. Our room provided a great view over the El Bolson valley and was specklessly clean.
Horacio welcomed us in a very friendly way and we felt immediately at home. He recommended us a very good restaurant (El Pirque) nearby where we had a great dinner, which the next day -after a great sleep in the ultra comfy beds- was followed by another great meal, breakfast. It is served on a large wooden table surrounded by artwork from local artists as well as Horacio's himself. As other guests had left already, we got to talk to Horacio and found out lots and lots of interesting things about the region, its history, and life in and around El Bolson.
Definitely worth a visit. We didn't manage time for a glass of wine on the beautiful balcony overlooking the valley, but i would definately have enjoyed that too.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the valley, very nice!

What a lovely stay dit we have! The owners are very friendly and helpful and they cook the most beautiful breakfasts (especially the pancakes with banana, walnut and dulce de leche!).
We had a lovely new years-eve on the mountain!

We spent part of our honeymoon in El Bolson with Horacio & Kitty - 3 nights to be exact. The view from the B & B was picturesque...speechless for us as we sipped some wine on the peaceful perch on the veranda. The cab ride up the hill to the location was well worth the pesos. The breakfasts were eloquently designed like the interior of the B & B. The special Bariloche coffee blend didn't need sugar or milk to enhance its flavor...in fact it diluted the goodness like adding water to a great whiskey from Scotland. Thanks for making El Bolson the highlight of Argentina and our honeymoon!
