What a wonderful zoo! The exhibits and animals were 1st class with education and conservation a focus. There were handlers walking around the zoo with animals that visitors could view close up and the main show in the Crocaseum was great, especially the free flying birds.
The food areas were clean and tidy and the zoo is to be commended on the availability of healthy food choices such as sandwiches, wraps, rolls and salads. For visitors on a budget food can be taken into the zoo. The owners and staff should be commended on a wonderful zoo. It's a must see when in the area

This is not a Zoo in my opinion, or at least a zoo like we have in America. This should be considered a preserve or animal sanctuary. My niece and I traveled to Australia in July, and started on the Gold Coast specifically to visit the zoo. In total disclosure, we did a VIP tour and had a golf cart, personal guide and did 5 Animal Encounters, so my experience is not based on general admittance. That being said, so much of what we saw was available to everyone. First, the animals are very well cared for and obviously LOVED by the handlers. In all of the cases where I saw interaction, there was true devotion to these animals by the staff. Next, the grounds are extremely clean and well cared for. The vegetation is beautiful and the surroundings could not be more serene. If you want to be educated about any of the animals, just ask the handler and they will answer any question you have. Our guide Susan knew so much about all of the different animals, the future plans for some of the areas (example: Lemurs are getting a new home), and history of almost all of the animals. The Croc show was more of a bird show, but it was well done. The prices are steep, but then again you are paying to see very well cared for animals. The staff could not have been nicer (from Food Handlers, to photographers to handlers, absolutely everyone is so pleasant). My only wish was that we could have visited the zoo hospital but there was not enough time.

Beautiful zoo maintained by dedicated staff. Exceptional care taken with the animals and the grounds. Focus seems to be equally split between the care given to the animals and the need for cash. Understand it is an expensive venture but sometimes made to feel that the almighty dollar was more important than the experience.

We loved it. We went with our 3yo and nearly 2yo and they both loved it too. Different to other zoos we have been to there was lots of opportunity for them to touch and feed the animals. They touched baby crocodiles, koalas, a camel, a lizard, kangaroos, sheep and goats. They fed elephants, farm animals and kangaroos. We hired a stroller for $14 and it was great. There are shuttles that go around the park as it is spread out. Our 3yo walked the whole day but she was pretty tired at the end. The good thing is that your entry fee although expensive generally does include everything (except food and drink of course) - there are rides, bouncy castle, feeding opportunities etc.

We caught the bus from Mooloolaba and it was great. $5 each, under 3yo free. You need to pre-book. We got a commentary on the way there from the driver and on the way back they played a video - the Irwins on their movie set. The timings were perfect as we had just enough time to see everything but not too long with tired kids.
