That you chose us to mark such an important milestone is particularly pleasing to hear. “Exhorbitant and Overrated”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 10, 2013

Three of us went to the wakefield mill restaurant on Saturday December 6, 2013. The maitre d' showed us to our table in a nice setting. We chose the 7-service discovery menu at $75 per person.
1- Carpaccio of cod
Basically unmarinated and unspiced thinly sliced raw cod (very bland) with a molecular tomato ravioli (yellow in colour, looks like an egg yolk and tastes like watered down tomato juice).

2- A small piece of Octopus (the size of half your little finger)... It was however excellent.
Accompanied by one small piece of tempura pickle... Weird and interesting

3- Tartare of lamb. 1/4 cup of raw minced lamb (no spices at all) and it was so full of nerve that we spit out most of it. Served with a "fresh" fig that wasn't ripe enough.

4- Torchon de foie gras. One thin slice the size of two stacked twonies and it was good.
Molecular hybiscus caviar: A few (we counted 13- 16) flowery tasting granules (interesting taste).

1 oz Cider. I don't know who made this cider but it tasted like watered down apple juice + alcool

6- Red deer medallion cooked to perfection (very small portion). It was however served with asparagus that had been overly sweetened (we found the sugar taste to ruin the taste of the meat).
7- Cheese platter
Only had one very small piece of cheese in it and again another unripe "fresh" fig
8- Desert
A dab of raspberry coulis, a streak of caramel sauce with a few salt grains dropped in it and one more time, yes... another "fresh" fig that wasn't ripe enough and a piece of parsley on the side. Honest to God that was it... no cake or flan or anything else; just two dabs of sauce, a fig and a twig of parsley.

Total price with an $80 bottle of wine (worth ~$25 at the store), taxes and tip = $400
Definitely not worth 1/3 of that price.
We were still hungry when we left.
The place is nice, service is good... You should only go there if you're not hungry and you don't know what to do with your money.

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your views on your recent dining experience. First, please accept my apology for what appears to be a very unsatisfactory meal. The only good news I can share is that your experience is both rare and isolated. Our Discovery Menu has been very well-received and remains a very popular dinner option.

That said, I did go over in detail your comments with our Chef and he will be getting in touch with you personally by telephone or email. Please also be aware that that Saturday night was the first night when we began three new menus for both restaurants for the winter season. Unfortunately, it did not go as smoothly as we had hoped, and as is normal.

Please note that as a result of your comments, and a Monday morning review of the new menu format/challenges with our kitchen and dining teams, we have made a number of significant changes, resulting in new menus being printed today and offered effective tomorrow evening.

Again, I am very sorry that we were unable to meet your expectations, and we take full responsibility for your disappointment. It is comments such as yours that help us to keep the promise. Thank you again.

Two friends and I spent a night at the Wakefield Mill for a womens' getaway and we had a fabulous time...the room was beautiful and overlooked the water, the staff were without exception excellent, the food was superb and overall I would highly recommend this Inn.

“Excellent Food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 16, 2013

I have been to the Mill on three occassions and the food never ceases to impress. From Pickerel to wild boar sausages the textures an combinations were amazing. Thonly down side is you need to go on a diet when you return home.
