Great food and service. They have another restaurant of this chain called Kovcheg, but Stariiy mlyn is better. More varied menu. Prices are reasonable. Our bill for 2 ppl was around 30 euro, including alcohol and deserts. We had terrific evening!

“Fantastically entertaining with wonderful food!”
Reviewed September 28, 2012

Every time I find myself in Ternopil, which might sound weird enough right there, I like to visit this restaurant. They have a quirky entrance and a second building with dragons coming out of it. It is very picturesque. As you enter take care of the steps as the visual stimulus might overwhelm you and I have witnessed a number of people almost falling.

The menu consists of traditional Ukrainian food, with the rarity of green borscht in a bread bowl. If you are tired of the traditional beet soup, try this one, I hope you will be pleasantly surprised. They have a hefty selection of Varenyky. They also have wonderful meat and salad selections with great potatoes and coleslaw. My personal, but seasonal, favorite is the pickled green tomatoes.

They do have an upstairs sushi bar, which I am still not brave enough to try.

“Nice design/good food...”
Reviewed August 10, 2012

I visit Stary Mlyn everytime when I'm in Toronto. It's always been one of my favourite places to go for a drink or to eat. However, last time when I was there,I noticed that quality of dishes has unfortunately deteriorated. The food is still decent, but not as delicious as it used to be.

“A bit kitschy”
Reviewed July 11, 2012

The restaurant is situated quite far from the centre close to a big and noisy road. The hosts tried their best to fence themselves off but still the cars outside are disturbing. And some initiatives of the restaurant are disputable (too loud and quite obscene music).
The place is quite big with a wide range of rooms to sit in and has an outside terrace. Somewhere you can eat sushi but it is obvious that their main specialization is to be very "national" restaurant. The waiters are in folksy suits, the interior contains many old-fashioned utensils etc. But all in all it is like... too much.
The food is not cheap and is quite fine but nothing very special. Of course in the menu you can find almost all the kinds of Ukrainian dishes.
