“Beautiful setting; great service”
Reviewed May 24, 2012

With spacious and well-appointed rooms, La Coquillade provides a great place to relax in between exploring the surrounding country-side and hill-top villages. We had a wonderful 4-night stay here including dining in the fabulous restaurant. The staff were friendly and helpful and we would not hesitate recommending this accommodation to anyone.

Stunning location, beautiful (albeit cold) pool, excellent service, fantastic restaurant and vineyard. There is also a BMC showroom on site where top of the range road (and mountain bikes) bikes can be hired at a reasonable price so a great place to stay if you are a keen cyclist and love a bit of luxury.

My only gripe is that breakfast isn't included in the cost of the room which is not insubstantial (165 euros in the low season and significantly higher during the high season). The hotel is a car drive away from the nearest village. A simple buffet breakfast costs 20 euros which I think is poor value for money expecially as it was nothing particularly special (cereals, cooked items, fresh fruit, yohurt, breads, cold meat and cheeses etc) - I think that it really should be included in the price of the room.

Great Hotel... great service.... and amazing food! The pool is cold... so ensure you go in the summer... but the place certainly lives up to its reputation... be forewarned... this is the Provence countryside at its best.... including its local inhabitants...

We had a couple of small scorpions in our room... and yes... the hotel moved us immediately to another room, but it did make the stay a little more unnerving...

Room Tip: Try to take advantage of the free wine tasting tours on Tuesday and Thursday... theyre Great!!!

Situated on a promontory in the Luberon among 38 hectares of vineyards, this recently constructed Relais et Chateau was still not completely finished when we arrived to sample its restaurant "Le Gourmet" that had already received a Michelin star. Its gifted chef Christophe Renaud soon proved why. The prix fixe concept is complex yet logical. There is a main course of fish or meat, preceded by 3 starters and followed by 3 desserts, all of which change each day. The full Monty costs 49 euros at lunch and 52 at dinner, but at lunch you can opt for starters OR dessert at a cost of 35 euros. The dining room is one of the most beautiful and spacious we have ever been in. The staff was warm and efficient, and the food superlative ---- way beyond 1-star status.

Our lunch began with a tray of delicious parmesan crackers and good rolls to soak up a local olive oil that was simply liquid magic. Next came an amuse bouche of warm artichoke cream topped with truffles. The 3 entrees comprised a gazpacho of beetroot and Granny Smith; a sushi of raw sandre wrapped around a filling of chopped celery and nuts; pan-fried foie gras served with a puree of red carrots and a carmel-vanilla sauce. Like the desserts, each was about half the size of a normal full portion, and perfectly adequate for the purpose. The full main dishes were brilliantly composed. My wife enjoyed veal filet mignon ( 3 delicate slices) accompanied by 3 croquettes of potato and truffles, while I chose the finest slice of tuna I have ever tasted along with 3 graceful towers of seaweed enclosing a stunning risotto made from the red rice of the Camargue.

The trilogy of desserts was no less remarkable: a large cylinder of dark chocolate enclosing a filling of mint cream; St Honore profiterroles with a carmel filling and graceful spun butter-sugar; a sorbet of Provencal almonds. Our coffee came with 3 fine gourmandises apiece. On departing, we were gratified that already a large TRIP ADVISOR CERTIFICATE OF HONOUR was proudly displayed near the entrance. The food is already of 2-star calibre, and when I wished the proprietor/manager success in going beyond that to a 3rd, he muttered "God forbid!". He may not be able to help himself. Please note that we did not stay at the hotel and can only comment on one of its restaurants, "Le Gourmet". The other, Bistro Dans les Vignes, does not open until after Easter

Despite its rather remote location, this is the place to visit for the finest food that Provence has to offer. It is best not to approach it from Gargas, but rather from the RN between Avignon and Apt when, approaching the latter, you will find signs on your left that will take you to your destination by small roads traversing the vineyards. Bonne voyage.

We've been there in summer with a biking tour group for 2 nights. The property has been under renovation for months and it is in prestine conditions. Our villa was beaultifully furnished and very quiet facing a private patio. Restaurant was excellent both for dinner and breakfast.
We were so impressed that, my husband and I left the group and biked back to La Coquillade at the end of the trip for one more night at the beaultiful villa!

My girlfriend and I were invited to a wedding taking place at La Coquilade in mid-September. This is just to say how impressed we were with everything from the hotel to the restaurant and the service (which was friendly and professional). Congratulations to the team that put it all together, you've made a lasting impression. For those looking for a get-away in a majestic area, La Coquillade is the place for you.
