“Just Lovely !”
Reviewed September 11, 2013

We have recently returned from a four night break dinner bed and breakfast.
The Wombwell is run by Eunice and Ian who were welcoming and considerate hosts. The room was very clean and very comfortable, and the food was just superb.
Can't wait to go back.What a treat !

Very much a 'does what it says on the tin' place. We had a lovely overnight stay in a clean, friendly venue. This inn is welcoming, has a decent menu (even for us fussy vegetarians) and offers cleanliness and comfort at an affordable price. We will revisit when we're next in the area.

Stayed here for 1 night based on the good reviews, on arrival was exactly as described, country inn, nice spacious room. We'd had quite a busy day and I was looking forward to a lovely pint of real ale, there was a choice of 3 and I opted for the Black sheep but this was passable rather than enjoyable so I tried an alternative Wensleydale ale which was abominable and I had to return it to the bar. Another customer tried the third option beer and said it was undrinkable and also gave it back to the bar staff.
That was bad enough but we were then kept awake till the early hours (1.15 to be precise) by rowdy behaviour in the bar. We appreciate it is a village pub but some consideration for staying guests should be given.
The redeeming feature was an excellent breakfast the next morning but if you're looking for a quiet country pub with good beer this probably isn't the place for you.

I have never written a review before,, and we stay out regularly overnight, however, after the memorable experience of our stay here, I felt so compelled to do so as the experience of their hospitality was so exceptional. Whilst everyone has different expectations from their accomadation, and hosts, from our experience this is exactly what we want from ours.
We found the Wombwell a quaint and adorable inn, with comfortable beds and found it very clean throughout. The food is absolutely amazing, and well worth trying, something a little different, the South African food was very palatable and all food is cooked fresh to order.
The owners Eunice and Ian are extremely, friendly, polite and very approachable, as were all the staff we met, and the service was faultless. The welcome we received was genuine and sincere, as opposed to being merely polite, they are very hospitable and nothing was too much trouble, it felt like a home from home.
Don't miss out on this little gem if ever you are thinking of staying in the area....
Thank you for a memorable stay.....

We stayed here in early June for a 1 night stop on the way elsewhere. A lovely English inn with a varied menu and south African specials to add something extra , we had a really lovely meal. The rooms were on the small side but this is due to the nature of the old building, but they were nicely decorated and comfortable. The full English breakfast is also very good. This was an ideal place for us but would not suit everyone as Wass is a very small quiet village and the pub was also very quiet in the evening during midweek.

I like good old-fashioned English pubs but the Wombwell Arms is not just that - it is better!

The room is very good value for money, clean, well stocked for tea / coffee and comfortable. The dinner menu is excellent (with the promised South-African twist for those looking for something a bit more out of the ordinary) and the option of a full cooked breakfast was just as good - you can't beat a good bit of fried bread in the morning!

The 'pub' part is also very good with a choice of tasty lagers and 3 well kept (and chosen) ales. Yes Wass is a bit remote - but it is only 2 miles from a main A road and the option of a wander across the picturesque hillside was a great finish to dinner.

We stayed during the mid-week in June and even though one other room was also occupied, we did have a private pub for the last few hours before bed. Not a good place for someone seeking 'busy pub atmosphere', but a great place for a quiet, comfortable, friendly and well fed stay in a quiet village a stones throw from the moors.

Following recommendations, four members of our family arranged to meet here for lunch. The traditional pub atmosphere was most welcoming and the Landlord very accommodating.
We were able to enjoy a variety of food, with a South African touch, and catch up on family matters and linger in the quiet dining room with just the right level of service.
We enjoyed it!
