this is an astonishing place. the building and its location in the middle of the vineyards, the open and common areas, the rooms and their view - all makes it a great place. add the spa, and you have a perfect place. why "almost"? i asked if they can change 100 dollars to local currency and they said "yes, but we charge 25% comission..." - unbelievable...

My husband and I went to this particular hotel in Bento Goncalves for 2 reasons: location and food (Leopoldina Restaurant).
The hotel is very well located, with stunning views of the vineyards.
The room was clean. The bathroom had the shower inside the tub, that has a very dangerous access, I think.
The pool is pretty, with a jacuzzy in the middle. But the access to the pool is very weird. You have to cross the lobby! There is not a separate entrance, what make us feel very uncomfortable crossing the lobby wet and sweaty.
But the big problem for us was the wrong information about the restaurant in the hotel site. It says that the Leopoldina Restaurant opens 7 days of the week. And it is absolutely not true.
During our 5 days at the hotel we only had the chance to eat there in 2 occasions.
They say that because the restaurant is too big, it only opens Fridays and Saturdays. Thats absurd!!!! And although I don't agree with this decision, what I think is unforgivable is the wrong information to the guest. I have the wright to know this in order to make a fair decision for me.
The other tricky information is that they have a Trattoria- "a cosy space that allows the chef to give a personal service".
What a joke!!! The space seems to be improvised, the elevator door opens inside the restaurant and it serves both for guests and for service, with people coming and going with dishes, trays, etc
The AC only attends one table, due to its location.
The kitchen door also opens directly inside the restaurant.
And if you are lucky enough, someone could be smoking a cigar at the smoking room above the restaurant and you will have your meal tasting like tobacco. You know why? Because this smoking room don't have a door!! By the way, don't have door, or service, or decent AC, or decent TV.... Just looks like a dungeon.
Although the staff was very kind and attentive when we complained about this problems (the chef Cesar gently prepared us a delicious meal that wasn't at the menu) the manager Debora Villas Boas didn't bother to appear to explain herself.
We respond the general research by mail and complained about the restaurant. Only after this Mrs Debora gave us a answer. And it was so sad: "the restaurant is big and only opens on Fridays and Saturdays. And they have a lovely Trattoria". Just laughing.
My wish? Please change the information on the site!!!!! Inform your gests!!!! Treat them well!!

Room Tip: Don't choose a room at the back corner. The hotel staff have a room there and they talk a lot an...

Cara Sra. Sandra,
Cordialmente,
A Gerência
Dear Mrs. Sandra
here again we respond and thank you for your comments, which allowed us to correct the information on our website. Both the Leopoldina Restaurante and Trattoria Damigiana have the same service, with the same staff and the same Chefs. The local where the dinner service is performed is changed only due to the demand, been the largest used space on the days of high reservation flow. Our aim is that the guest always receives individualized treatment wherever they are, as you mentioned have received. All the other comments were analyzed by our team, that is why your response was sent on special attention by our Director (and not by the General Manager).
Sincerely,
GM

Nested in the winery valkey in the countryside, this hotel is expected, when viewed from the road, to be as perfect as its location and architecture suggest. In my case, it was not the case. I had booked a regal suite (suite regia), and the day previous to my arrival I was contacted by the staff in order to get an upgrade to the imperial suite in exchange for a 200 dollar fee. I was promised early check in at 10 am, a bottle of champagne and a fruit basket. When we arrived at 10:30, the suite wasnt ready, there was no fruit basket and the coffee machine was not working. These seem to be small details, but they are not. If you are offered some special perks to get an upgrade, you are supposed to have them.

Hotel & Spa do Vinho near the city of Bento Gonçalves is a hotel whose architecture was inspired by Italian design. The panoramic rolling vineyard views I saw every morning of the Val dos Vinhedos from my window always caught me by surprise – I could have sworn I was in Italy. The only restaurant, the Leopoldina served distinctly Italian inspired dishes. My room was clean, had a good work desk, good internet connection, decent bathroom though without a tub (shower only) and water pressure in the shower that varied considerably. (Lots of noise and hot/cold variation.) The vinotherapy spa run by the French company Caudalie offers professional, enjoyable treatments and a private indoor pool and outside terrace for relaxing with a view. The hotel's own pool is outdoors and has a hot tub in the middle. Miolo Winery was directly across from the hotel in full view from my window. Its gets over 200,000 visitors a year thanks to its proximity to the hotel and its reputation. They only make fine wines and have tried out over 30 different vinifera varieties in their search for the best for the region. Breakfast at the hotel was an endless parade of food brought out on stacked trays (pastries, cold cuts, cheeses etc - eggs any style could be ordered as wished). Only issue was lack of English so I couldn't always get my choice of tea or make a special request. I loved the location - Serra Gaúcha, in the Vale dos Vinhedos, a recognized wine denomination of origin famous for sparkling wine and the biggest concentration of wineries in the country.

Room Tip: the higher floors offer the best views - get a room facing the front and the Miolo winery for specta...

If you are planning to spend time in Vale dos Vinhedos(winery valley) and spend around 300 plus USD go to another place! This hotel does not offer a decent breakfast neither room with bathtub.
Very simple, very basic, people in staff are lazy and not kind.

Room Tip: Find other place, if not chance ask for six floor

Spa do Vinho is a Strong personality building place inside South brazilian vineyards. The hotel hall is classic and finely decorated, definitely worths spending some time reading or chatting. Employees are well prepared for services and are really friendly. Hotel amenities are worth to be used, such as a pool with a wonderful view, tennis courts and gym. Walk paths among vineyards behind the hotel are also pleasant. The room is quite comfortable, but could have newer furniture. Breakfest if greatly served with a variety of options to please everyone's tastes.
