Driving from the Algarve to Lisbon for our return flight we needed an overhight, arrived in Casto Verde around 8pm and asked where the hotels were, a friendly local gave directions to all 3 with a smattering of English and French. We found all 3 and decided on the Vila Verde as first choice because it is in the town while the other 2 are further out. Walk-in rate was 50 euros for double room inc breakfast so we looked no further. Excellent location, free on-street parking, plenty eating places nearby. Desk staff spoke best English we encountered. Room adequate size, air conditioning, everything very clean and well-equipped. Good soundproofing, but inconsiderate other guests woke us by talking in the corridor. Breakfast selection limited, cereals, 3 breads, yoghurt, ham, cheese, no fresh fruit, but very acceptable. Coffee ok, but made with long-life milk. Ate in local restaurant across the road, very quiet in there, we met a guy who was cycling and had come from Faro and a Portuguese couple, I really enjoyed that because they spoke Spanish (I have no Portuguese) and corrected my mistakes, all of us really enjoyed the evening. Good stop close the the Castro Verde plains where we wanted to do some birdwatching.
