Fries were still a little uncooked inside. The outside of the fries was soft and greasy, not crispy! Worst fries I've ever had served.

The meat sandwich was better than the fries but still it was nothing like any smoked meat sandwich I've had before. It was called the Montrealais. I believe it was supposed to be a smoked meat sandwich but maybe I'm mistaken because the meat was not spiced and tender like a proper smoked meat sandwich.

The beer was not cold.

Wifi was good enough.

Thanks Tripadvisor for helping us find this spot. We enjoyed excellent fare from appetizers through to dessert. Great coffee and homemade bread too!

We recently headed to Val d'Irene for some snowboarding and decided to stay in Amqui overnight. On Saturday evening we took a stroll down the main drag looking for nice place to grab dinner and drinks. We passed a dark disco, an empty pizz place, then came up to what seemed to be a microbrewery - La Captive.

Only one of our group of 7 spoke French, which can sometimes result in poor service. This was certainly not the case at La Captive. There was only one server working this particular evening, but you could tell she was experienced and knew how to manage a dining room and bar. There were a few patrons sitting at the bar watching curling, and two other groups of 6-8 in the dining area. She immediately pulled two tables together and sat us with a welcoming smile.

The beer was made on premises (you can see the equipment through large windows) and was very tasty (I recommend the Blonde). Then menu isn't huge, but offered something for everyone in our party (which included a vegetarian and a vegan). A variety of finger-food apps, pub grub, small pizza, soups, salads, are the main fare. But the food was exquisite, with quite a lot of class shown in the preparation and presentation... not your ordinary brewery! Fresh, local ingredients are definitely a huge part of their philosophy.

The atmosphere was nice. Dim lights, original brick walls, old wooden chairs, etc. Apparently they have live music sometimes, but nothing was scheduled on this night.

Can't say enough about our server. She was extremely helpful, tried her best to speak English, tended to everyone's needs and even asked the patrons at the bar if she could change the TV station to the hockey game for us (bonus points!).

I definitely recommend La Captive to anyone hitting Val d'Irene. Great late-supper spot!
