Night 3 we arrived in Amqui Quebec and had only 2 places from the travel book to choose from. One looked more like a B and B so we decided to stay at The Auberge L'Ambassadeur....
The outside looked very nice and clean.A BMW and Porche in the parking lot....must be ok....
Check in was good Again broken English and French but we got checked ok...so off to the room.....just off the lobby.Opened the door and we were hit with a smell of stale smoke and must....and it was HOT! I really think it was the last room in the place.
Turned on the lights (which were those horrible curly energy savers) and opened a window for some fresh air.The room was two tone pink walls, 70's white washed beat up furniture faded (maybe they were pink at one time) orange cabbage rose curtins. And Im not sure if the rug was dark green or black it was so worn.
Well the book said it was a 3 star! And Im sure that was pushing it! We could have left and maybe should have but it was late and the next place was a drive away. Got into bed then just left the next morning for home...
The next day at home I checked TA to see what others had said about this place and was SHOCKED!! to see the lovely pictures someone had posted of this very hotel....wish I had taken some of the room we had....must have been a different wing or something.
The desk clerk told us this hotel is being used by the workers setting up all the wind turbines....and is usually booked solid..we must have gotten one of those rooms...

Room Tip: IF you have to stay here....check the room out first and get the one that is in the pictures on TA...

After several lovely B&Bs and a so-so cookie cutter hotel, my husband and I weren't sure what a small town like Amqui, Quebec could offer. I had used Trip Advisor to locate Auberge l'Ambassadeur for our road trip but still couldn't be certain it was to our liking. We are now checked in and comfortably settled in our room (#252) which is perfect. It offers a king-sized bed, bedside tables, an ample desk, 36" flat-screen color TV with numerous stations in English as well as French, dresser with three drawers, free Wi-Fi, two comfortable high-back lounge chairs, electric simulated fireplace, coffee maker and refrigerator, iron and ironing board and full length mirror. But the piece de resistance is by far the deep jacuuzi bathtub and a separate rainforest shower with 6 nozzles and handheld spray. (I may never come out :-) The weather is chilly so I have activated the "fireplace" which works on a thermostat and even though it isn't real logs and flame, it is close enough in appearance and warms us effectively. You can't go wrong with Auberge l'Ambassadeur.

Room Tip: We had room 252 which I recommend, as I do not know the layout and amenities of their other rooms, s...

Welcoming atmosphere, very well located, walking distance from restaurants, pubs and park.
The room was large and clean.
HOWEVER .... our window was backing a private parking and homes and it was very noisy until the night came.

Hi All!

I just came back from Gaspesie in Quebec, Canada.

We were supposed to stay at Lac au Saumon but unfortunately we had to find out a new hotel reservation at the last moment.

We finally found one in Amqui 10kms away from Lac au Saumon.

We spent three nights in the Auberge Ambassadeur.

Before coming in Quebec, I was a Duty Manager in the Hotels of Disneyland Resort Paris so I know what to check in a room!!!

I was well surprised!!! The room was perfect( beds, sheets, bathroom, facilities, no dust nowere and the maintenance state was also perfect!)

The employees at the reception were very gentle and helpful.

I should say that we booked a VIP room for 91$+taxes.

we were in a separated building and it was so quiet! But the train one day at 6 Am!

If you want to discover the valley of the Matapedia, I highly recommand this Hotel .

PS : Restaurant was good and friendly but not at the same point of the rest...

Have some nice holydays!
