My husband's dream to see orangutan came true... thanks to Hannah and all crew (especially Nina our lovely guide).
We decided to stay on Klotok for the whole journey because it was such an amazing experience seeing morning activities of the wild!!! :-)
We saw Rimba Lodge on the way but staying in klotok is more private & less mozzies. Wet wipes is all the shower we need hahaha...
Each day of the tour starts with good breakfast (lunch on first day as we arrived before noon)... And the great food continues on until the end of the trip! This includes afternoon snacks and endless supply of fresh (and chilled) bottled water (we used for brushing teeth too). Prompt services is like 5 satr hotel quality, thumbs up for all crew (chef & captains).
Of course, the higlight of the trip is seeing the orangutans. We saw a couple of them at the feeding station in camp 1, very cute and hairy indeed :-)
We came during the rainy season and we had 2 days of rain (heavy but for short time). First day was just cloudy so it wasnt too hot AND humid. Second day, started with heavy rain and we couldnt see any orangutans in camp 2, orangutans dont like getting wet! But later that afternoon, we saw many of them at Camp Leakey. From the entrance bridge, on the way to and from feeding station, it was surreal!!!
Apparently, Tom the king hadnt turned up to the feeding station for the past couple of months, and that day was his first day coming back!! We were lucky because they dont stay there for long. Also... While waiting for these slow moving apes, there are other cheeky monkeys around. You'll also notice that most of them at this camp are used to humans and they will def pose for you (enough time for loooaaaddsss of snaps)! Funny.
On our last day, on the way back to Kumai, we spotted abt 11 WILD orangutans, thanks to the beautiful morning! They were shy thou... The minute they heard the klotok sound, the started to swing and hide (slowly enough). Lookout for the different types of monkeys too... esp the big nosed monkeys, they're usually out and abt very early by the river - good to spot from your klotok! You'd hear different bird sounds all around you, binoculars would be exceptionally useful but some are quite visible :-)
ALL IN ALL, thanks to people's reviews on tripadvisor!!! We had a blast, it was the highlight of our 8 month long trip! Thanks Hannah for organising an amazing crew in such a short notice.
My suggestion is, if you have the time and money, this trip is def worth it!!!
