My girlfriend and I trekked with Mac - the company owner - and a cook and two porters for three days into Dani villages in the Baliem Valley. The trip was very well organized and Mac's crew were a delight to travel with. We were totally prepared for very basic accommodation and food and the challenges of the trail but Mac ensured we were as comfortable as possible. We had to change the planned itinerary because one of the villages was without water but the change worked out wonderfully because the new village we went to was engaged in a pig festival so we were able to witness and authentic gathering of several villages and the preparation of a feast with approximately two dozen pigs. Much singing and dancing over the course of an afternoon. We also visited a "mock war" ceremony which was very well done and did not feel like a tourist show. Highly recommend this trek and Mac as a guide.

Demi Wasage from Trek Papua organised our 8-days birding trip to the Snow Mountains. Overall, we are fully satisfied by the services he offered and would recommand choosing Trek Papua for any birding trip in the region. He has by far the best prices fro such trips. Demi contacted Weneluk, the lead porter, who contacted all his porters (we understood in the end that they were all from the same family). On Day 1, we went up by 4x4 wheel drive to lake Habema with the porters. We directly started the 20km trek to Mount Trikora. The porters were supposed to join us to have lunch but they never arrived and we had to trek the entire 20km without any food (that was also our mistake, we should have brought some crackers). This was the only logistical issue of the trip. We slept at the cave, and were ultimately joined by the porters at 10pm. They cooked us a delicious dinner. Next day trek up to the Snow Mountain Robin, and then back to lake Habema. We spent the 2 following days birding around, and then went down with the porters to Yabogima, where we spent 2 days/nights birding. For those 8 days, all included, we paid 600 USD per person (we were 5). This is still quite expensive but much lower than any other agent.

My name is David, I went to Papua last summer with Trek Papua. Very good experience with Korowai and Yali. To live something similar in Papua, with any kind of tour operator, you as western people need to know some previous info: Do not travel demanding or with a high level of expectations, travel in the key of acceptance and commitment to adventure. You have to live with uncertainty and improvisation, if you could not live like this for some weeks, don't go there. In countries like Papua it is normal for plans to change and the most important thing is not to change them but how your travel partner responds to those changes. In my case, even with the peculiarities of the place, Mac was a good friend and better partner. Guides were perfect and the experience highly recommended. I appreciate Mac's time and attention.

We booked a 6 day package for birding and hiking around Lake Habema and Ibele trail. From the beginning on the organization of the trip was poor. Mac (the head of Trek Papua) didn't know Ibele trail, so we planned to stay at Lake Habema for two nights in order to walk through the forest downhill afterwards.
The first 2 nights at the lake were nice. The third night we had to spent directly at the T-junction sleeping at the street on the ground, which is not what one expects from a nature trip. From there we made a day trip downhill and back to the junction, which was extremely steep and partly quite dangerous because of the slippery slopes above the torrent. Back at the junction we were picked up and brought back into town to spent the night in a hotel. Unfortunately, this was not what we had booked, be

Stay away!!! Do not book with this company. The tour guide Mac is childish, rude and fake. We were very disappointed with our experience of Mac (the tour guide for trek Papua). We met him in wamena where he was exceptionally friendly, he was taking pictures with us and sending us pics of his treks. He offered a 3 day trek to see the korowai. Initially we had trouble getting flights from wamena to jayapura, we asked Mac for help and he assured us he ‘had a friend’ in wamena and he would sort it. We then went off on our trek to baliem valley with a different company. When we arrived back it turned out Mac had not sorted flights, leaving us stuck. We spent 2 days trying to sort a flight out with the mission aviation guys as all flights were booked for a week. Mac then asked us to pick up a package of 1700 US dollars from the hotel in wamena and bring it to him in jayapura. After politely saying no that his not appropriate he persisted in asking but again we politely declined. Of course we are not going to collect a package of god knows what and deliver it across a foreign country by plane to a man we have met once!! We gave mac the benefit of he doubt and met him in jayapura. He had completely changed, he was exceptionally rude and acted like a moody teenager. We asked if he could guarantee we could get a flight out of Dekai after the trek (as it’s very difficult at Xmas time). He would not answer the question properly, just saying ‘I have explained (he hadn’t), he wouldn’t look us in the eye, he kept saying getting back was our issue and that he had no experience with these flights. Despite saying that return flights from jayapura to dekai would be sorted by him previously and even texting me that morning saying they had been booked. Eventually he blew up in a rage and said ‘let’s just cancel the trip!’. We were left completely shocked that a grown man would act in this way, let alone a tour guide. I would recommend choosing another guide / company, who would also be cheaper. Stay away from trek Papua!!!!!!
