In March, 2019, we joined a group made up entirely of snorkelers organized by Wendy Simon of Snorkeling Etc. (see snorkelingetc.com). Wendy is an amazing agent who finds the best liveaboards, charters the entire boat just for snorkelers, and accompanies each tour. We've been on a number of trips with her and by ourselves, and this was our very best of any, whether with or without Wendy. Given we've been on boats in the Great Barrier reef twice, Thailand, Maldives and Palau, we've seen our share of vessels and crews, and Wendy's find of the Blue Manta was terrific.
The boat was great from the deluxe twin cabin we had, to the salon, the dive deck and upper prep area, the photo room, the covered top deck lounge area, all of it was the best.
Our cabin had one double and one single bed, large windows with good curtains, separately controlled night lighting around the base of both beds, separately controlled soft room lighting behind both beds, good overhead lighting, good bedding and pillows, adequate desk area, plenty of power outlets for charging our electronics, storage between the beds, reading light on adjustable stalk for each bed, decent night table between the beds and good closet space for hanging clothes beneath which was plenty of storage for our 4 suitcases. Of particular note: the air conditioning worked perfectly.
Bathroom: this room was large enough to easily accommodate the two of us, the shower was a good size and had an opening window that helped out clothes to dry. There was lots of counter space beside the sink and storage below it. There were lots of places to hang towels and wet clothes, too. Always had warm/hot water in the shower, too! Hand and bath towels were provided in the bathroom, and the fresh towels made available after each snorkel run were much larger and could be taken back to one’s cabin and used to dry off after a shower.
The crew was simply outstanding - helpful, English speaking, always looking to make our time easy and comfortable. They took good care of us, were quickly responsive to requests, helped us doff our wetsuits and then rinsed and hung them for us. They laid out our suits and our skins before subsequent snorkels. They took extremely great care assisting us into and out of the speed boats for which reason there was never any concern about our embarking or disembarking. The snorkel guides and speed boat drivers were very responsive to requests to leave a snorkeling location and go back to the boat whenever a passenger requested, even if it was only one person. In strong currents, the guides took great care to be sure we were safe and not overtaxing ourselves. The rooms were neatly made up during the period of the first snorkel session, and normally, the bathroom trash was emptied at least twice a day. Also, on a few occasions, a few members of the crew provided some live guitar-accompanied singing that was very enjoyable.
Of course the guides were knowledgeable of the sea life and made an effort to point out things of note and if desired, would take your camera to get a shot from a submerged position..
The sea life was the highlight of the trip: it was simply the very best we've ever, EVER seen. I should add that besides our live aboard experiences, we've also snorkeled in Belize, Grand Cayman, St. John USVI, Bonaire and Curacao, Wakatobi and Bunakin (both in Indonesia), Florida, Maui and Hawaii. When we considered everywhere we've been, our comparison of all of those places puts Raja Ampat at the very top, and that's for the coral and the sea creatures. Besides tons of fish of various types, we saw manta rays at a cleaning station and dolphins at an early morning viewing, turtles, sharks and schools of bump head parrotfish plus more nudibranches than you could imagine.
This was the most magnificent trip that we heartily recommend it, especially as organized by Wendy Simon at snorkeling etc.

Check all the details and condition of this boat before booking. It is sub standard. We had to abandon our trip due to unfinished renovations. The wonderful Expedition Engineering kayak adventures organized a great alternative!
