We gave Jotje Lala a whatsapp in the evening and the next morning at 8 he picked us up for the walk up Lokon. We were quick, so he took us not only to the crater but also to Bunaken viewpoint. Beautiful walk and beautiful crater (with smoke) and views of Bunaken and Klabat. Jotje also took us to a waterfall.
Tel no Jotje: +62 89698789416. He's a very good guide who made a great photo series on the way, top!
We had a beautiful experience at Volcano Lokon.
When we climbed to the top we worried a little about the way back, but Jotje LaLa our guide showed us perfect where to go and after 4 hours (up and down from the real bottum) we arrived safe and happy back in Tomohon.
Jotje is easy to reach by whats app.
Manado such a beautiful place. It was amazing and the air is so clean. Many place for selfie and a enjoy the spot
I booked a climbing tour with guide Ando. He was a new guide but it wouldn't be a problem for me. A tour guide and I used to be a city guide myself is safety, service and information. Ando lacked all and after 3 weeks I already knew more about the area than him. Apart from this he told me I was too old and too unfit for the tour. He was unattentive, ego-driven, totally lacked communication skills, judgmental and ran in front of us. Our conversation was just about how many groups he had lead. He didn't know that I knew about his experience from reliable sources. We broke the deal.
3 days later I made the next shot with Mario Pantow. We walked a beautiful stretch through the agricultural area and finally through bush bashing from Kanzo Kaffee to the foot of Mt Lokon. The hardest part were the so-called slippery stones. Hopping them was harder than the usual boulder hopping because of their slippery nature. Make sure you put your foot in one of the cracks to avoid sliding.
We did the hike with a guide provided by our resort in Tomohon. Quite tiring as there are lot of stones on the way, so you need to be careful, especially during and after rain. The weather was not the best, so no views to the sea - just the crater of the volcano. After Bromo volcano (we saw it few days earlier), Lokon seems like a little brother and not so interesting. Anyway we were glad we stretched our bodies and got some information on the volcano itself from our guide. If you're fit enough you can hike all the way up to the top.
We got there at 6am, to avoid the heat. Did the walk with a guide, which I can recommend. With just a normal condition it's not that hard. The walk and vulcano are both really beautiful and impressive.
