“Nice resort, not so much to do”
Reviewed November 22, 2013

We stayed here for 4 days, and got a little bored in that time. The resort is very well kept and the rooms are nice (we had a free standing bungalow with no immediate nighbors) with hot water and modern toilet facilities. The bed was not the best one. The restaurant serves ok food, but you have to order it at least an hour before wich was a little annoying. Free wifi vas nice.

The resort offers tours with fairly interesting destinations, but they are quite expensive. E.g. a trip to the Tangkoko nature reserve costs 70€ / person including drive there and back, guide, lunch. We were happy though that we could mix and match the destinations and build a day tour with just the attractions that interesed us. But after that there was not too much to see for the rest of the days. We did walk on our own to the Kali waterfall which is a 2 hours walk from the resort, and a very nice one!

The weather in November can be really crabby, one day it was pouring rain the whole day, and other days we had some showers and mist as well.

We stayed in Higland Resort for 4 nights in November and enjoyed our stay. The setting is very beautiful and peaceful and the bungalows are well equipped, spacious, and bug-free. You can book all kinds of tours around Minahasa highland and while they are not the cheapest we really liked our tour which was tailored to our wishes (we picked just the places we wanted to visit) and we had great discussions with the guide and learned a lot about the local life, culture, politics, religions and everything.

I would definitely recommend the place. The only thing is that if you have a choice of time of the year come rather during May-Sept period as apparently the rainy season up in Tomohon means persistent clouds and typically quite some rain.

Very friendly staff, the manager was very kind and did his best to make us enjoy our vacation. Staying in small wooden cottages, clean, spacious and very comfortable, among a calm environment, which is really rare in Indonesia. We were upgraded in deluxe room.
Food is excellent and we could have our meals on our terrace.
Everything was fantastic.
The only point we would have is that their tours were a little bit expensive.
We would definitely recommend this place.

In early October 2013 we spent 3 nights and 4 days enjoying our free upgrade staying in lovely wooden cottages with outdoor dining seating, which was ideal for breakfast and dinner amid well-kept and attractive grounds. We were made to feel very welcome and did take advantage of the late night dinners and the free spa treatments which were superb. The meals were good and should be even better when the arrangement with the Green Garden starts up next month. The rooms were attractive and spacious and there was a lot of attention to cleanliness and friendliness. No need for AC nor fan. It was easy to get around on local mikrolet and we particularly enjoyed a very fresh local fish dish on Tondano Lake, as recommended in a free guide which we were given by the resort. Very restful and peaceful atmosphere.

Room Tip: Three friends really enjoyed two adjoining cottages with shared dining out front.

I stayed six nights at Highland after originally planning to only stay a few and then moving to another location. I just couldn't leave. The staff are extremely helpful and as someone who likes to experience the local culture and people as opposed to bus tours, I received lots of great advice and help on where to go and what to do. I didn't eat at the restaurant as there were some great restaurants in the nearby village or short mikrolet ride away that were more traditional and cheaper. The room was impeccably clean every day, as were the grounds. They have a great value package on their website and the included massage was also fantastic! I cannot fault my time at Highland in any way. Definitely the place to stay in Tomohon!

Whenever you are looking for a true oases of rest, beautiful flowers and nature surrounding the beauty of volcanos, you simply have to visit the "Highlands Resort" in Tomohon. It is a lovely, clean, nice and friendly place which just gives you everything you need on your vacation; even a nice glass of cool white wine after a day of climbing the mountains. I have been there for 5 days and having worked and travelled in Indonesia already for more than 25 years, believe me I can tell! Oh and don't forget to try the "sateh babi"......never tasted it that good!

Mody and all the others: thanks very much for 5 lovely days.

We spent one night in this hotel and we enjoyed it.
It is nice and clean and food is very good.
The hotel also booked one day tour for us, we visited Tomohon Market, Woloan traditional housebuilding, Linow Lake, Hot springs and Tondano Lake.
