...you'll love the Pelican Hotel. We live in Costa Rica and were able to get a reservation for Semana Santa (Easter week), when all the Ticos go on vacation. We have been to several other places during this absolute height of the tourist season only to feel elbow to elbow on the beach. Not here. I joked with the friendly owner/manager, Roger that I would not write a review because I didn't want the Pacific Coast's quietest, most laid-back place discovered. It's true that the lighting in the rooms could be better, and the pool was not pristine, but these things were easily gotten past when walking on the practically deserted beach, napping in a hammock, or partaking of the excellent sea bass in the restaurant.

Room Tip: Ask for ocean view with a balcony.

If you looking for a 5 star hotel, this is not the place but if you really want to get away from the rat race and just chill, The Pelican Beach Hotel is it! This is a Basic Costa Rican hotel but what a hotel. The aircon kept me cool in my room, the bed was firm and didn't hurt my back. They have a little safe box in your room for your valuables and the WiFi reached my room over 90% of the time. (It has a very strong signal at the bar/restaurant, where the router is). The most important thing is it's right on the beach which is great for walking, surfing and horseback riding. There are loads of Iguanas and parrots that make a racket in the early evening. There is a pool table and a small pool, which is clean and cleaned (I saw them cleaning it). For $34 a night, it's a great value!. This place is the opposite of the over commercialized Jaco Beach. This place is muy tranquilo! My only complaints were the sink was loose, sheets were clean but worn and the shower could be upgraded with a slightly better showerhead. The continental breakfast was skimpy (mangos could be served since this place is loaded with mango trees) but this are all small complaints. The staff was very helpful and friendly which is a real plus. I wouldn't hesitate to stop here again.

We reserved a room for the easter hollydays, trusting the pictures of the web. What a dissapointment, room without TV , dark no lights, the tiny balcony is shared, no smoking is not followed, swimming pool dark murky water seemed without care, bed clouth smelled, etc.............
Didn't ask for reimbursement, ran out of the place and never looked back.
Check the place before going , pictures are outdated and misleading. More like a scam.

Located right on the beach, the rooms are small but cozy, with a nice balcony overlooking the Ocean on the Est Esterillios beach (20 Km from Jaco). Fantastic waves, big flocks of pelicans and cormorants bobbing on the ocean, surfers riding the crest of the breakers, few fishermen, long streches of fine sand. And in the back the jungle.
The restaurant is quite OK. Breakfast could be richer.
overall wonderful place for a few days.

Room Tip: beach front rooms

If you want to get away from it all - Pelican Hotel will fit the bill! Their rates are great and it includes breakfast. The beach is very close and it is further south of Jaco - this means that you won't see that many people on the beach except some local fisherman and a chance that other visitors at neighboring hotels come to Pelican to eat/drink!

All people working at this hotel were great! Very helpful and wanted to make sure you had a good stay. Pura Vida!

Room Tip: They accept USA dollars!

Terible. Realy terrible.
Dont belive in the photos in their web site. The hotel is in very bad condictions.
I planed to go for two nights, but we only stayed one. We run away.
Do you want to ear more? Here a little resume: a frog in the swiming pool, not tv in the room, all the walls needs paint , the mayority of the air condition looks rusty, the door of the room looks bad and more.
The hotel was a mess.
The fist impression was very bad and we confirmed it at the end
The breaksfast incluide in the rate ( its only bread, pineapple and other fruit, mermelade, and coffe.-Very important: the toaster didnt work-
We paid $80 per night, but the real price of this hotel room have to be $35.
We went the weekend before Easter Break.

I have been traveling in costa rica now for 2 weeks. It is already my second time to this brilliant spot. The rates are very affordable. The staff is excellent. The food is fresh and made by a very talented chef who makes all her food fresh. Seriously, you have to try the ceviche.

As of this weren't enough, the beach is easily the best I have seen. It goes for miles. You can surf. Or you can wade out for at least 20 meters.

If you have not already done so, add this one to your itinerary.
