We stayed in a quad room, in the attached building this was easily accessed via the courtyard and a set of steps (similar is available on the ground floor if stairs are a problem).
The room had air con and external shutters if you do not like bright sunshine waking you at 4am.
The room was very clean and appeared to be recently refurbished.
This is a typically French hotel with the receptionist escorting to the room, checking you in/out and running the bar (so may need to wait 2-3 mins for them to respond to the desk bell - though this really is not a problem.
Buffet breakfast is excellent, but evening restaurant menu was to fancy for our teenager but there is an excellent Creperie a few steps from the rear carpark towards the church.
Easy access to St Malo (ferries), Mont Saint Michel and Fugeres
Definitely would use again if passing this way.

Room Tip: Note there are no lifts, if you want to avoid stairs request a ground floor room.

My husband and I ate two evening meals at the the Lion D'Or. each time we were pleased with our meals. The seafood platter first course was very fresh. Lamb, chicken, and steak- we liked them all. The side dishes were all excellent. The The staff was very attentive.

My husband & myself wanted to treat ourselves to a final holiday meal before returning home from a short break in this area and booked a meal for Monday 14th June 2010 as this restaurant appeared to be of a superior level to other local, but delightful, eating places ( we had tried to book a meal with friends on the previous Friday without success). We decided to sit in the pleasant conservatory where the waitress gave us the menu & wine list and promptly rushed off to the main dining room without asking about an aperitif and we had to wait some time before she returned. We eventually ordered our meals and the courses arrived at slightly delayed intervals. My starter was a tartare of herring, blackcurrants & blackberries with a dash of white sauce.. a rather off -putting purplish mush with an odd taste (which I couldn't eat), my husband's 2"sq. pate de fois gras with strips of tired looking dried ham on a pile of rocket was edible but also lacking in flavour was followed by a reasonably tender veal escalope with vegetables for myself and a tough, supposed, fillet steak with dried out roast potatoes and too long kept vegetables for my husband. The piece de resistance for my husband was another pile of rocket leaves with a small slice of baguette toast with apple jam & overcooked goat's cheese which we would have been embarrassed to serve anyone! My dessert of millefeuille with cream & strawberries was a pile of squirty cream (you know what I mean... out of a pressurized can!) dotted with fresh sliced strawberries (the best bit!) and sandwiched between two thin crisp slightly burnt biscuit and my husband had a creme brulee that should have been at room temperature, not straight from the fridge. Oh, and my husband had to reject 2 half bottles of corked red wine and drink the passable house instead (I drank tepid tap water as I was driving) The 2 waitresses' service was rushed leaving little time to ask for any replenishment. We were very disappointed with the standard of food & service and our only (kindly) surmise was that a junior cook was in the kitchen after a busy weekend and that the waitresses were short handed & trying to cope with a reasonably full house with the Hotel guests also having their dinner. We were very relieved that we had not been able to treat our friends to this embarrassingly poor meal the previous Friday evening and had, instead, eaten a most enjoyable meal at their favourite local restaurant in a nearby village. We decided that this meal was the worst we had had anywhere for a long time and we've warned our friends to remain faithful to their "Madame Christine's" establishment instead!

What a fabulous small hotel in a small French village! The rooms are immaculate, the staff caring and the food is out of this world! Close to major attractions (Mont St Michel, St. Malo, Rennes, Normandy) while still maintaining the relaxed atmosphere of a village.

We enjoyed driving around the Breton countryside, eating galettes, and sampling the local nightlife in Fougeres (15 miles away). The hotel is just off a main highway so getting there (and anywhere else nearby) is a breeze.

History fans: nearby is the home of Anne-de-Bretange and the St. James US Military Cemetery. Avranches is 20 minutes aways (where Patton's Third Army broke out of the the Normandy beacheads.) The main Normandy beaches are two hours away.

I heartily endorse this hotel!! We'll be going again in 2008.
