“Good for one night stay”
Reviewed June 18, 2012 via mobile

We were in Bldg 5, room is decent but with moldy smell. What we heard Emei is a humid area. Hence the room feels clammy. It is ok for one night stay to visit Emeishan.

The grand entrance was the best feature of this hotel. The hotel is built in 3 separate buildings - the admin, the rooms and the dining areas. The rooms were of a poor standard. The beds were like rocks. The tiny, old style bathroom had a shower over the bath. There was no tea/coffee making facilities in the room. There was NO mini bar in the room. The air conditioning didn't work anywhere in the hotel let alone in the rooms. Two standard lamps in the room meant that the room was very dimly lit (forget about reading). The wardrobe wasn't deep enough for a coat hanger to hang in it. There were bad, damp smells in the room. We changed rooms but all the rooms were the same. The staff were very unfriendly. We went to the coffee shop for a cup of coffee but were told 'no coffee.' Forget about breakfast - it's up 3 flights of stairs in a separate building (no lifts). It was a pleasure to leave the hotel.

All folks considering this hotel – BEWARE!

Stayed 1 night on 17May 2012 (booked hotel thru travel agency in Chengu) at Executive room (5th floor) after checking into a Business standard (2nd floor) room that was dirty, noisy airconditioning and filthy toilet. Upgraded to Executive room after complaining to travel agent but front desk didn't mention of upgrading charges until after agreeing to the upgrade. Worse still, the upgrade charge was calculated per pax (we booked 2rooms for 4pax) and came to RMB680 after discount. Travel agent said hotel insisted we took baths and used facilities during the less than 1hr transition at Business standard room when we waited for response from hotel & travel agent after communicating our displease. Later on in the day we discovered a local Emeishan sales agent (located within the hotel) could offer additional discount over the "Today's rate" shown on electronic display at the front desk. In short we were charged for the price of almost 2 rooms (ie. 1Standard+1Executive) for a 1night stay.

Learning point for those considering this hotel is:

1. Book directly from Internet or through Emeishan local agent
2. Book transport from Chengdu directly - do remember to factor in travel time from hotel/residence in Chengdu to XinNanMen bus station to EmeiShan bus station to EmeiShan Grand hotel (considerable waiting time). Alternatively, pay for private MPV van to take you from Chengdu directly to this hotel
3. Insist on 'Executive Standard' as the 'Business Standard' doesn't meet even a 3star hotel
4. Breakfast at this hotel starts from 7am but 'full day' itinerary to EmeiShan summit almost certainly requires departing from hotel by 6.30am or earlier. Hence, a 1-day stay at this hotel prior to EmeiShan is in practice a 1night (quality) sleep before the physically strenous hike up the mountain.
5. A word of caution for sedentary folks (and those traveling with seniors). As all tourists must depart EmeiShan by 6.30pm, a leisurely trek up (& down) the summit before closure time is probably wishful thinking. Do remember, a 1-day hike to EmeiShan is quite unlike a 1-day stay at a tropical resort like in Bali or otherwise – the climb up AND down the mountain will almost certainly drive you yearning for a leg massage.

In short, will not stay (ever) in this hotel again!

Room Tip: Insist on an 'Executive Standard' room only. 'Type A' is queen size bed while 'T...

Stayed for 1 night only in this fairly basic hotel.
The lobby is indeed grand and the location near the Baoguo Temple and near the bus station for heading up the mountain is great, but don't expect too much from this hotel and you will be fine.
The "executive" room we had was huge but strangely lacking in furniture which made it seem a bit empty. The bed was good old rock hard chinese style and all else was basic but serviceable - the room was reasonably clean and we were quite happy with the bathroom.
The Yoga Coffee shop sadly does not serve coffee but the staff sitting around in there reluctantly offered tea as we walked (ignored) out of the door; the bell boys really resent carrying bags and the reception staff are not exactly keen, but on a good note the restaurant staff were great and the food pretty good at dinner off the picture menu. Breakfast was serviceable .......
All in all if you limit your expectation to a 3 star standard & ignore the sloppy staff, this is a good enough hotel to stay in for a short time whilst enjoying the mountain scenery ...... which is, after all, the focus of a trip to Emeishan.

I recently stayed overnight at the Emeishan Hotel while on holiday in China. This was easily the most run-down hotel I stayed in on my 2 week trip. The location was great, very close to the Bao Guo temple, but that's about the only positive. The "hotel" was across 3 different buildings - reception, rooms and dining. Walking through the reception and accommodation buildings, the paint on the walls were peeling, and I think there was mould as well. The beds were rock solid, and the carpets in the rooms were rather dirty. Breakfast was supposed to start at 0630hr, but by 0700hr, most of the food was still not out, and what was served was cold. We booked 2 rooms for our party, and they couldn't have put us further apart - one room was on the ground floor by the East Wing exit, and the other was on the top floor near the West exit!! I don't know what the other hotels are like in this area, but I'd certainly be looking elsewhere

Hotel is located near the Mt. Emeishan. Since we walked in the lobby, we could bearly breath. Smoke is everywhere, in the lobby, in the restaurant, and in our non-smoking room. The carpets in the room and in the hallway are unbelieveably dirty. The heavy smoking smell in my room and on my pillow, I had terrible headache and could not sleep. The breakfast and dinner are OK, but again, the smoking is there.

Beds are "firm" as is typical for China local hotels. You are out of a main city at this location and therefore have to make allowances. If you want international std luxury, go back to Chengdu. Yes, Emeishan Grand is basic, but our experience for an overnight stop was acceptable at a 3 star std. The famous Baguo temple and monastery is a stroll away and the entrance to Mt Emei is a short drive. The hotel restaurant can actually serve up excellent Sichuan cuisine and may be a better, albeit pricier, option than chancing it with the cut-throat vendors outside. (For dinner they insisted on a min RMB1,500 bill for our table of ten just to get the chef to cook, but food was v good).

Room Tip: We stayed at the back wing which may be newer.
