“Too pricey”
Reviewed March 2, 2012

We stayed one nite at this hotel. The only credit card they accept here is Union Pay so we had no choice but to pay cash (RMB 420).

It was minus 11 degrees outdoor yet the heater was not really working and the windows to the room couldn't shut tight so you can imagine how miserably cold the nite was.

To make the situation worse, there was no water supply. We were given a bucket of water to wash up, shower and flush the toilet...

Typical Chinese breakfast was provided.

I have been so fortunate that I have not had to stay in a very bad hotel. Well, my lucky streak was broken when my husband and I neared the summit of Mt Emei. It was evening by that time and we desperately needed a place to rest. Service was okay - waited around for check-in a while. And manager refused our requests for one more towel (for the 2 of us, we only had 2 small hand towels and 1 bath towel). Our other friend's room did not even have the bath towel. Pricing of the rooms were of course a bit high. But we expected that the price gouging as well as subpar service.
However, we were not expecting the conditions of the our room. There were mold spots and dead insects all over the walls. I was thirsty but afraid to use their water boiler since it was the oldest model ever (the heating metal bars were in direct contact with the water). The bed sheets were stained too. The bathroom was the worst - the toilet was not western style - which would have been fine, but for some reason it kept backing up. Every time we went in there, there was some new grossness in there (maybe we were at the end of the plumbing line?). The smell was so foul that we could not even shower in there! Must I go on...?
Only redeeming qualities of this stay were -
1. Restaurant - Ate dinner and food was not bad. Again, paid a bit more than usual.
2. Location - This is the sole reason I believe they can still stay in business. This hotel is a quick 10 minute walk up to the summit for the sunrise. The manager even knocked on everyone's door at 6am to wake them (but what if they didn't want to wake up to see the sunrise??).
Stay here if you must, but do so at your own risk!

It is a shame to have on such a beatiful and holy mountain such shabby shambles ! I am not referring to service and friendliness of staff, they were quite OK for the ordinary China venturer. However, the moldiness of rooms will cause asthma and probably other health problems for any person with a history of allergic outbreaks. Obviously nobody in the Hotel had ever heard about the health hazards mould and spores may pose. Thus consider a night hike in the wee morning hours for the sun rise or get shown into all the rooms available and chose the one with the least sprouting mycology !

We stayed at the Golden Summit (aka Jin Ding hotel) last weekend. There appeared to be two buildings -- we were at the one closest to the cable car. The reception staff did not speak English and were quite rude to our guide. We had a deluxe twin room, which was roughly on par with a Motel 6. We were able to have a look at a standard room, which was very small and dark. We were allowed to check in at around 3pm but our guide had to wait until 6pm. The room was filthy, there was no hot water, and it was so cold that we had to sleep in our shoes and all the clothes we had with us.

The point in staying there was to see the sunrise in the morning. It was very misty and rainy, so we were unable to see it. It takes less than an hour to see the golden buddha and temple on the peak.

To sum up, it might have been worth the effort if the weather had been better. In our case, it was totally not. We would have been better off making a day trip of Mt. Emei and staying in a nice, warm hotel elsewhere. Unless you are a real outdoor enthusiast, I would skip Mt. Emei altogether.

The hotel is at the top of the mountain so if you want to see the sunrise, this is a great location. However, the rooms are very basic and had the hardest and lumpiest beds of all the places we stayed in China. The food and service was average. Very little English was spoken here.

This was a real mixed bag . The location of the hotel overrides any misgivings we have about the hotel . Apparently its been renovated and is about at the standard of a motorway travellodge . We wouldn't have minded that but the rooms hadn't been cleaned properly, there was no heating in the room when we arrived on a cold evening, the meals were very average and the approach to customer service pretty poor. However there is nowhere else to stay if you want to getupin the morning and watch the dawn breaking over a whole 3000m montain range (which is a must). When we went(early April) it was snowing and the views were fantastic.
At the base station for the cable car up you need to be wary of the monkets - don't carry carrier bags or they will come and remove them for food.
