Most, if not all rooms have stunning views of Lake Vättern. Perched high on a bluff this hotel is in the most beautiful location you could imagine. We stayed in the more modern wing where the decor verges on the utilitarian rather than luxurious, with no extractor fan in the windowless bathroom. However the beds were very comfortable.
The restaurant specialises in Swedish fare, and it does it very well. No wonder it was a favourite stop-over for Greta Garbo.

We dropped into this hotel based on previous trip advisor reviews and were not disappointed.

After asking the price for a room (1295sek for the wing) we returned to the car to collect suitcases. When we returned to reception to confirm we wanted to stay, we were told that as we had our bags with us they would put us in the main building for the same price (even though it's more expensive). Room was a lovely size and free wifi with a voucher was available. Staff were very friendly and meal was amazing. Great place to spend our last evening in Sweden and great to watch the sunset over the lake. Highly recommend if you don't mind splashing out a bit

We were fortunate enough to have a lake view without prior booking. The room was nicely furnished in keeping with the style of the hotel. Considering the price of the room I was surprised that there was no mirror in the bedroom and the bathroom was very small with nowhere to place personal items.
The terrace bar is lovely and the hotel receptionist was excellent doubling up as bar tender and mixing a very nice gin and tonic. The restaurant is also lovely with very friendly service. The prawn toast starter was excellent but the char was slightly overpowered by the crayfish sauce. Delicious though!

Room Tip: Ask to view rooms before making a decision.

This 4-star hotel was a great place to spend a couple of days. Each room has a wonderful view of the lake and the island. There are rooms in the old main building and the newer wings. We chose the newer, somewhat less expensive section, and the room was very nice - a good size, full bath with shower and tub, and very comfortable beds. The hotel is a short drive from the village of Granna. The breakfast buffet was good. The restaurant is very good but very expensive. Again, the view from the dining room is spectacular.
Service was very helpful and friendly. We did not book in advance but in season it is likely to be full.
The only negative comment is that on Saturday night and Sunday breakfast there were a lot of noisy small children. Perhaps this is just chance!

Thought it was lovely - got married there and a wonderful setting for a small wedding in the chapel in the castle. Nothing like it in U.S - so glad married in Sweden in such a historical, romantic setting.

An efficient enough check in by the sole hard-working receptionist, but having reached our room in a separate block, we were disappointed with its rather down-market 1950s styling. The prime example was the “economy” curtains, which had patterned “dress” elements each side but when pulled exposed only a width of “lining” type material.

The bathroom was functional, but with a toilet bowl that was permanently stained & hence not up to standard for a hotel of this quality. Also the shower curtain was very utilitarian (the cheapest available) & there was no soap for the bath – just a dispenser positioned high up for those showering.

Furthermore there were no English-speaking news channels available on the bedroom television, despite there being quite a few English speaking guests at the hotel. We felt that this was a serious oversight.

Finally the broadband could not cope with the number of guests, & despite one being given 8 hour tokens with the password code to enter, it generally only worked for 1 hour without an error message on my laptop, but would not work with my i-phone at all!

On the plus side, the hotel is located at the gateway of a beautiful area on Lake Vattern & Rottle, a stunning lakeside village with a spectacular waterfall was 5 minutes away.

Also dinner in the restaurant with a very nice view was delicious and the service was exceedingly friendly & efficient. Sadly this same area was not used in the morning & we had to have a just about adequate breakfast in a very dinghy, ill-lit internal “grand hall”, but the wooden panelling & painted ceiling were impressive.
