“Paradise on Erath”
Reviewed August 19, 2014

If there is a paradise on earth then it is Hotel Heritage Khazanchand Mansion, where I spent a wonderful, long and luxuriant weekend with my family. The was ever prompt and did whatever they could to make us feel comfortable and homely. The food was awesome especially the Kumauni dishes.

The evenings were just mind blowing with a view of the twinkling lights of Almora visible in the valley beyond!! And on top of it a lovely tastefully cooked dinner served alfresco added to our pleasure.

I highly recommend a stay at this homely Heritage Hotel.
Room Tip: Ask for a room next to cozy corner. It’s worth it.

I visited almora n surrounding places with my family dis yr in june....far away from d maddening city rush lies dis beautiful , tranquil hill station tucked in d lap of d gigantic himalayas...its beauty never ceases to amaze me.....wat made our visit more pleasurable dis time was deciding to put up at khazanchand mansion....very conveniently located its close to d market n yet secluded, it has an old world charm to it...wid d fireplace, d french windows, wooden staircases, d attic it transports u to an era gone by...n d USP of dis hotel which sets it apart from d rest is d unrestricted magnificent view of d himalayas..d visual treat is to die for! D sunrise n d sunset is surreal...d beauty of it just takes ur breath away. Der is a lush green garden in d backyard where u can sit all day, sip on some tea , soak d sun , hear d birds chirp n njoy d floral spread infront of u. D rooms r spacious n tastefully decorated n d room service is prompt n efficient...d cook der specialises in multiple cuisines but I would suggest u to try d local pahadi food...its delicious! D hospitality extended to us by d owner mrs rekha bhatt n her subordinates is worth a mention...
Dis place doesnot hav a commercial feel to it...its almost like u own ur own shack in d hills...probably becoz of d exclusive number of rooms, d warm conduct of d people running dis place or being at a secluded yet well connected site....n yes it's within d reach of ones pocket!
I thoroughly n wholeheartedly recommend dis hotel to anyone planning a visit to almora!

The hotel is located very close to the market and is on the main road leading to various scenic sites. As we traveled during Monsoon, we had certain amount of fear regarding weather and road conditions.Mr.Naazir and Mrs. Anju are very cooperative and kept us updating about the road conditions. The Kumaoni food is a must try at hotel especially chicken gravy. We took 'hill view' facing room and i guess we en-cashed the natural beauty totally. Almora is a serene, peaceful city and please take help of Mr.Naazir and Mrs Anju to trace out eat-outs and shopping centers in and around Almora. The property, city, staff courteousness & cooperation will definitely leave stamp in your mind for a long time.Looking forward for next visit!

Khazanchand is well located to offer the ease of travel in any direction. It has amazingly large rooms, the garden at back offers breathtaking view. This hotel has a history; the owners are very friendly and will be happy to share it with you. The staff is very courteous and will go out of their way to accomodate requests. Food is prepared fresh and the staff even catered to our request of how we wanted it to be prepared! When you visit, dont forget to try the omlette and a walk in the army compound that literally starts right in front of the hotel!

we visited almora on 3rd week of May-2014. the property is a heritage property but maintained very nicely. it was a family visit and we stayed here for a night. i really appreciate the room quality, staff's responsiveness, manager's urge to provide a good service. the hotel lawn also provides a splendid view of the sunset at the Himalaya. a lot of space is there for parking also. every room elements also carries the heritage along with the modern amenities. i would definitely like to stay here if i go next time to almora and also recommend others to try this hotel out.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
A majestic mansion nestling in the hills …Khazanchand Mansion which is a fabled picturesque double storied heritage stone structure located in Almora- an enchanting hill station, the first to be set up by the British in 1815. The Mansion has a quaint colonial charm with its outsized ethnic bedrooms and a rare prominent view of the breathtaking Himalayan peaks such as Trishul, Nanda Devi, Nanda Ghunte, Mrigthuni, Maiktoli amidst others. Along with this the scenic beauty of the eye catching sunset and the wide resplendent valley below leaves one amazed at their splendor. The mansion was built by the famous Dr. Khazanchand and has also been christened after him.The Mansion's structure has a magnificent frontage with stucco colonades, wooden flooring & ceiling and rough hewn stone walls giving it the flavour of an original British Colonial Architecture. In yester years, legends such as Jawahar Lal Nehru, Uday Shankar, Sumitra Nandan Pant to name a few have enjoyed its hospitality which is now open to one and all.We would recommend you to do nothing, just nothing the first day you are with us at The Heritage, which is the best thing in the city weary need-just breath the fresh air, soak in the sun and view the Himalayas. Even during the winter one can simply enjoy the snow covered landscape from the window of our heritage hotel’s cozy heated rooms. It is no doubt an experience one has to savour to believe. So, why the speculation-just make a bee-line for The Heritage, you will never regret it – that is a promise!! ... more   less
