“The perfect holiday!”
Reviewed July 31, 2013

We had the BEST holiday ever!! I cannot find the right words to express what a wonderful time we had at The Retreat in Bhimtal. We enjoyed every minute and spent quality family time..No other Hotel could have matched the welcoming and cosy atmosphere of the retreat. A very comfortable stay indeed.
The view of the Saat taal lake from the forest behind The Retreat was absolutely breathtaking!!
The Padmini & her beautiful children made our stay the most pleasurable and relaxing one, my family and I have found very dear and precious friends in them. The delicious home made food, delicious fruit preserves (Mulberry topped them all!), cakes, Barbeques and bonfires were such a treat! Getting the time and ideal atmosphere to paint was definitely the icing on the cake!
Sharing my painting with everyone to see :) I'd Love to go back to Bhimtal again and again..Just the perfect place to unwind, relax, take long walks, trek, swim, paint, read...or just spend the evening chatting to Paddy sipping some of her delicious coffee & home made Yummmy muffins!

Thank you so much Smetacek family for every thing... Really hope to see all of you again..Soon! :))

Isn't it wonderful that you come to a new place not knowing what to expect and you see a lady welcoming you with a smile and hug .. Three boys come along and take your bags , two dogs who are happy to see you .... And then you enter the most cozy little home .. That's Padmini and her sons and daughters and her dogs who take care of you with their wonderful hospitality .
Travelling with two kids ( 6 & 2) for a mother is never a vacation .
But living with the Smetaceks changed that . We had the most wonderful times ,the scenic treks the beautiful canopy of green , the yummy mulberry preserves the food was made to order especially for my kids ( Mickey Mouse shaped pancakes ) picnic baskets ... The works. The hospitality is amazing ,the food is deliciously fresh. True lovers of nature must visit this place and enjoy the richness of culture , richness of history and richness of hospitality. Home is where the heart is and that's what Padmini has made in The Retreat and It made me leave a piece of my heart there . Thank you Padmini and kids.

Thank you ever so much! It was lovely having you and your family here: the pancakes, the kids playing, and Seeker the dog going everywhere with you, including picnics and boat rides! I think we all had fun, and have become good friends who hope to meet again.

The retreat is a heartwarming and inviting hotel. Situated amidst lush green forests, it is the perfect getaway with family or a cool hangout place with friends. It is as far away from the hustle bustle of the mall road to give you a quite peaceful experience but being close enough that you can reach the market by walking for roughly 10 minutes. It also has trails/treks running from it in all directions so you can reach the tourist spots in 15-20 minutes. I would recommend Panna tal(A small clean lake where you can swim).

You would be lucky if padmini makes pancakes for you for breakfast!! Cheers to Padmini and her Family for doing an awesome job at making our stay memorable.

Room Tip: The last room has excellent views of the forest.

The Retreat is Padmini and her 6 children's little world. A warm and cosy home up the hill at the Jones Estate in Bhimtal, where you can forget about everything and everyone else and just be with yourself and your dear ones. Paddy and her children are the perfect host and we strongly recommend that you experience this home away from home. Its an old colonial bungalow that has been restored yet keeps its charm. The family is extremely thoughtful and caring and make your stay very comfortable and memorable by personally looking after all details during your stay. The food is excellent, their hospitality warm and for all who look for a quiet escape away from the hustle bustle of the city and are not looking for a luxurious, commercial hill resort The Retreat is truly recommended.

Thank you for your kind review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay, and hope you will find the cleanliness better if you visit again (which we hope you will soon!); also we are working on improving the the locale -- a monsoon activity -- and beds (foam instead of cotton mattresses for those who prefer, soon), to make your stay more comfortable.
