“Almost very good”
Reviewed October 23, 2013

Good parts:
1. Great location
2. Fun dogs to play with
3. Peaceful
Not so good parts:
1. Staff seems just a bit lazy at times, for example - we told them to do bonfire at about 6:30, which was just starting of evening, but it was too late a notice for them. Same reason was given for a couple of other things - seemed a bit odd. We had cold and slightly wet towels on 2nd day - in cold places - not pleasant at all.
2. In hospitality industry - it is very common to ask for leaving the luggage outside room after the check-out time and hang around at the property after check-out time. This place wouldn't allow it. For a place that is "highest rating" on tripadvisor, we couldn't believe that - we can't just hang around and have lunch after our check-out time. I am sure there are reasons for doing this to us, but from our perspective it was very "odd".

Customer Is Not Always Right

ET rebuttals -
Bonfire was lit for all three days they stayed . In fact on the last day they enjoyed cooking fish in the bonfire - banana wrapped masala fish. Our staff have taken mobile pictures of the evenings .

Staff being lazy - our staff escorted them for a half a day paragliding trip . While it is is not there job . It was done to extend our courtesy .

The reason for all this nit picking . They wanted to stay beyond the 11 Am check out time . We were not informed of this at the time of reservation . Also , it was not possible as we were expecting guests . This was explained politely by the manager and myself . But they refused to understand . Hence this review .

According to the guests overstaying beyond check out timing is a common practice in the ' Hospitality Industry ' . Possible only in hotels / resorts . Not in home stays / farm stays .

- ' Hotels / Resorts ' rent out - ROOMS . There you are allowed to check out and yet stay in the
property for some time .

-' Homestay / Farmstay ' rent out the entire property . As a policy we rent out your property to
people from one group or a family . This way guests enjoy exclusivity of the property . And
personalized service .

And , that is why our guests rate us highly.

Next time please make the property distinction and read up there policy . And share your check out timing or any such special requests at the time of reservation.

The place took me by surprise. It's not huge like estates are supposed to be but it offers much more than any 5 star or 7 star hotel can provide. The peace of mind, the location, the staff and their 4 pets - Russie, Pia, Mini n Bruno. OMG. It has been the best destination ever. Just wished for a much longer trip than what we had planned. I would thank Sumith for giving us a place like that to holiday with our pets.

A place that let my 'friends with paws' let loose and boy, did they have a time of their lives. As the two got to know each other playing around, my family and I earned back the lost moment in a peaceful and pristine environment.

While the location of this home stay took us away from everything bad of the city life, the home made food and warm support of the caretakers never made us feel far from home.

As the six days we spent went by in a lot of fun, there was one thing common among all of us - The desire of not coming back from a place like this.

Serene, peaceful and pristine.Thats Emerald Trail and we really hope it remains that way. Spacious and woodsy, the rooms are charming and comfy. Shadow, our four legged baby was treated like a star. Emerald Trail is a pet paradise. He had a run of the place, had his own mattress, ate the chicken and daliya with gusto- all lovingly prepared by the staff. Not a single area was out of bounds for him. From the pond to the gazebo, even the badminton court was given a thorough recce. From canine friends to even bovine ones- Shadow had a dream vacation. For us the 'piece de resistance' was the reading corner, closely followed by carrom and board games- all reminiscent of our childhood. Food is clean and homey.Surrounded by calm, Emerald Trail is truly a vacation for the soul.

Room Tip: The left hand corner room is the best with its own swing and rocking chair and a great view.

As usual it requires a lot of planning before travelling ,specially when you have a four leged member in your family. Being a Pet loving family leaving back home our Pet (lara) and we going for fun holiday ?? it is beyond our imagination and ethics. Lara always has a first right on all we do thus all our actions / plans are built around her.

So we were very lucky to spend few days holiday during June '13 at "Emerald trail " It is very nicely and simply maintained highly pet friendly properety located on the mountain top near Bhimtal . It was a real pleasure to spend time in peace and calm with lot of other activities available to keep you engaged with in the premises.

Food served was purly home cooked as per our choice with lot of affection from the friendly staff. Lara was let free and also had wonderful time running around /sniffing /jumping and enjoying every moment in big lawns which has a lot of greenery.

We recommend this place which is highly safe and secured specially if ? you are also travelling with your loving pet. I am sure you will go with a feeling that you could give some quality time to our family along with our loving four legged family from the crowded city places which really doesn't have good parks or open green areas for them..

We would alwayes cherish those moments spent at " Emerald Trail " and would visit again .
Cheers !

I found this place on Tripadvisor, simply because all other hotels in Nainital, Bhimtal and Naukuchiatal were full. And boy, am I glad they were full! This was my first experience of staying at a homestay and I've fallen in love with them.

Emerald Trail is a beautiful homestay built with a traveller's need in mind and great attention-to-detail. Not to mention, it is completely immersed in nature's beauty, with tall trees, lush green gardens and a majestic view of the mountains. The air is so fresh that you wish you could store it and take it back with you. The surrounding is so quiet, it transcends you to a different mental state.

The place has a 4 rooms (2 ground + 2 first floor) and a separate large cottage. We were 3 of us and stayed at the cottage, which was quite spacious, had an almirah (with locker), comfy bed, TV, fireplace. It was decorated with madhubani paintings & a retro styled wall clock. The bathroom was decent enough. There is also a private dining space outside the cottage.

From reading magazines on travelling, National Geographics, playing board games, riding mountain bicycles, playing with the pet dogs or cows, badminton, cricket, swings, there are many things to keep your spirits up all the time. And all this while enjoying the magnificent view of the valleys and mountains, with white clouds floating around. The food was homely. The caretakers were polite.

Emerald Trail also does its bit for the environment by having installed solar water heaters and harvesting rain water.

The only downside was the erratic power cuts and the delay in starting the generators, which is understandable to some extent as it would disturb the peaceful environment. Also, I found the food to be expensive.

But, overall, a great place for anyone who wishes to spend a few days with the nature and relax.

Emerald Trail is an excellent homestay nestled in the relatively secluded Jungaliya Gaon village of Bhimtal. The property has been developed with love & care and offers a relaxing break amidst nature. The calmness of the surroundings and the friendly staff make the stay here a totally awesome holiday experience.

Room Tip: Rooms on the Ground floor have a patio which open out to the lawns. Much better option than 1st Floo...
