Neemrana is a fort located on a small hill, off the Delhi Jaipur Highway. It's a good weekend trip from Delhi, about 2 to 2.5 hours drive. One has to pass through a small village to reach the Fort. Neemrana brands itself as a 'non-hotel', and that might be the apt description. It doesn't look like a regular hotel and in many ways doesn't function like one. The Fort is amazing, built into the hill side, and well maintained. One doesn't realize which parts of the fort have been restored, and which parts are newly added. It looks beautiful, has lots of great little nooks and corners to discover, green spaces to sit and enjoy and many meandering pathways & staircases to explore! The staff is polite and helpful, and even gave us a free upgrade. Also the management has put good effort at building a culture of music & art around this special space. They often hold evenings of folk music & dance (usually on weekends) in the open air amphitheater framed with lit-up torches. We enjoyed one evening of Punjabi Folk songs by Madan Gopal Singh, and it was a unique experience to sit through this beautiful performance under a starlit sky in a 15th Century fort! During the day, there's the swimming pool to keep the kids busy, there are audio tours & Flying Fox organized adventure activities. It has to be kept in mind that it doesn't function like a regular luxury hotel, so first say goodbye to room service! And the menu's pretty limited apart from the Lunch & Dinner. These buffets are 'not bad-not great', so do not go there expecting great culinary experiences. It is also not a place for people who have problem climbing too many stairs, because the topography of the property is such that there's a lot of climbing up & down stairs to go from anywhere to anywhere in the fort. Look at the pictures-its clear enough. The rooms are basic, simple & clean. Again, its a good stay if you're not looking for great luxury. Would I go there again?- Certainly! It's a unique weekend getaway.

Room Tip: Tiny rooms like Bagh Mahal should be taken by ONLY very young and adventurous. It can be claustropho...

Really worth the drive from Delhi (can take anything between 2.5 hours till 4 hours depending on the traffic) for a completely relaxing experience. The Fort is beautiful, well-maintained and offers sufficient privacy if one wants to wind-out.
We were there from Mon to Wed and it was nice and peaceful - but week-ends maybe another story.
Really appreciate the fact that the upper pool is so-called quiet pool where children are not allowed. However, during our stay a group of very noisy local rich kids were screaming, squeeling and creating chaos in the pool and there was no staff around who could have intervened. I was advised not to do so as these rich brats usually dont listen to anyone.

The staff was generally very attentive and helpful.

Two small minus points: there is no a la carte but one is forced to have the buffet. When insisting on a lighter options, we were given the chance to have soup, salad & dessert at 50%, which was a reasonable solution.
Second minus point is about room cleanliness: our room was very dusty, with big dust balls under the bed and big bedside lamps covered by thick dust. This is a such is not uncommon in India, where vacuum cleaners are not much used and the traditional brooms only move dust from one place to another.

All in all, we had a lovely holiday and enjoyed the tranquillity, clean pools and a uniquely beautiful ambience.

Room Tip: as the stairs are very steep, elderly persons or people with walking difficulties may not opt for th...

This fabulous fort was well worth the mad taxi drive that we endured...the roads were hellish due to the upgrading. However the fort was amazing. The food and service was great. I loved the home made icecream and panir. The pools looked lovely, one was being repared and the other looked spotless but too cold at that time of year to tempt us in, (we had 2 night in February). We had a ride down the zip slides "flying fox". The instructions and safety were very reassuring and the guides were delightful. Plenty of wild life around to sit and watch whilst enjoying a drink and a quiet read.

After reading several reviews and based on my sister's opinion (who lives in Gurgaon) we decided to go to Nimrana Fort Palace for 1 night stay. We arrived a little bit after lunch (around 2:30pm or so) - decided to stay at Vaan Mahal (again based on recommendation here on trip advisor). Unfortunately the pool was out of service and that was a big bummer!!! There was another pool at the upper level and we decided to take the kids there -- the water was freezing cold (agreed it was February, but the weather was warm and sunny). I think a luxary resort like this should have heated pool or atleast a hot-tub -- that was very disappointing.
Next we ordered evening snacks -- ofcourse food in India is amazing (so we are kind of biased about that since we don't live there anymore). Later on in the evening we decided to go for the vintage-car ride --- the driver was very nice and took us around the village and some shopping (for my wife).
For dinner, I was very disappointed that the ONLY option was a buffet and since we had late snacks, we were not hungry and just decied to have a bottle of wine instead. By 10pm the dinner place closed down and there was absolutely no food/drinks available after that -- again to me this is unacceptable. We were there for a relaxing vaccation and lack of food/drinks after 10pm is not my idea of leisure travel.

Overall this was a good concept - converting a fort into a hotel. But terribly disappointed, mainly because we are used to 'luxary resorts' in Mexico/Caribbean which are truly a luxary with all sorts of ammeneties. Nimarana fort fails to live up to that comfort level.

Another note: the place is not at all kids friendly (again by western standards) but I won't hold it against the hotel. My main reason for 2 stars is for the price (which is double of what we pay in Mexico/Caribbean) the level of comfort/luxary is non-existent.

Room Tip: Vaan Mahal is good if the pool is functioning.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your valuable review about the Neemrana Fort-Palace heritage resort near Delhi.

We are pleased to learn that you thoroughly enjoyed the vintage car ride.

Since the property is tiered over 12 levels with hanging gardens and terraces, it is not as simple to manage as a modern corridor room hotel with guest and service elevators. To ensure quality service by our team, we are therefore obliged to make some systems – especially regarding the meal timings as the area of the Fort-Palace is vast.

The Neemrana philosophy is different from hotels where modern- day amenities are given priority over ambience and old-world charm. At Neemrana, we try and strike a balance between the two so that the past is not completely obliterated. We have never claimed to be a star-rated hotel. We believe that our discerning travellers leave home to taste the 'difference' and seek authenticity rather than faked luxury.

With respect to your feedback about being child-friendly, please note that Neemrana offers camel cart rides, vintage car rides, and various other indoor games. Apart from the two outdoor swimming pools, a table tennis facility and a self-guided multimedia tour has also been recently added to increase the choice of activities for children.

Warm Regards,
Team Neemrana

This is a 15th century castle offering several great sounding amenities that we did not have time to explore, as well as an audio-guided tour of the fort itself. Called a non-hotel hotel, staying here is a romantic fantasy land. While the evening dinner on the high hillside terrace was a buffet, the food was very good and the ambiance was calm, quiet and quite spectacular. Definitely one of the most fantastic places to stop on the way between Delhi and Jaipur.

I stayed at the Neemrana fort palace for one night with my husband in September, 2012. The drive from Gurgaon takes close to 4 hrs and the roads are as good as they get in India. Since we were staying on a Friday and it was not too crowded we were upgraded to the Panna Mahal from the Garud Mahal (our orignal booking). Upgrades are always happy starters and thus our stay obviously started off on a good note. The suite was very charming as the the two rooms were connected by a quaint little private terrace overlooking the hillocks. Perfect with a mesh of creepers above and a couple of iron garden chairs and a table. The entire property was delightful and charming with its hanging gardens and numerous mysterious stairwells spiralling into nothingness! Because of the various levels and segments of the property you hardly bump into other guests and at times you do feel like you own the place :D The staff were quite courteous and the place very clean. A Rajasthani folk song&dance show had been organized in the evening. It was not great since the dancer was only a little boy who ought rather be studying or playing. Dinner was good as was breakfast but we felt that the essence of Rajasthani cuisine was lost in trying to cater to the foreign clientele. The western dishes were not great and it may be better to stick to Indian cuisine. Overall experience was very good and relaxing. Would love to go back.

We are pleased to learn that you thoroughly enjoyed your stay in the Panna Mahal suite.

Your compliments about the cleanliness and the hospitality have been conveyed to the Neemrana team.

With reference to your feedback about the cultural performance, please note that the Rajasthani group were itinerant singers. However, we have settled them in the nearby Neemrana village and ensure that the parents send their children to school during the day.
