We did not see a tiger but we did see a great many animals and birds - a rare huge porcupine, several kinds of antelope, crocodiles, peacocks everywhere, many ducks and waterbirds and beautiful kingfishers. The guide was excellent - but if you go during the cooler season, be sure to wear enough clothes. Riding in an open Land Rover in 4-5C temperatures can be chilly.

Me being a wildlife enthusiast visited Sariska with high expectations. Obviously, we did not get to see any tigers but what bothered me is the state of the management which is utterly dreadful. No complaint books, authorities absent from their duties, guides sleeping during safari timings.
Rest In peace Sariska.

Recently we went to sariska and we decided to visit bhangarh fort as well. the road from sariska to bhangarh is awe inspiring , Aravalli range on either side with canopy of dazzling red flowers ( palash, I have never seen a such a huge jungle of palash flowers spreading miles on either side of the road). It was a treat for the eyes and soul .

the best thing about this place is proximity from Delhi NCR:).It takes 3.5hrs-4 hrs to reach to this place. Like all National Parks, This one has two shifts Morning(6.30) & afternoon(2.30).So from Delhi if you plan a morning shift, its becomes quite hectic to start at 3am(morning), though they allow people till 7.30am for the morning shift. So for morning shift, one has to stay the night before & start next morning. We planned a same day return trip. There are two ways to go to Alwar (chk map), we took NH-8,manesar-dharuhera-bhiwadi-tijara-alwar-sariska,the traffic is heavy from Gurgaon-dharuhera For to & fro trip cos of on going fly-overs construction on NH8,Bhiwadi onwards, the drive is good. We booked online at rajasthanwildlife.in & reported at 2.00pm.when u reach there, you are almost in shock, the place is so badly managed and dirty. The toilets were horrible. There is no place to sit. People at the ticket counter cannot explain properly what charges make up the total.(though for a gypsy, one has to pay approx. Rs 470/- pp, if 6 people are there in the gypsy)Canters were not available. If less no of people are there in the gyspy, cost would increase. For foreigners, the entry fee is more, approx. Rs400/- they have to pay more. The guide & the driver both were knowledgeable. Though it is impractical to expect sighting leopard or tiger in 3 hrs,we sighted sambhar, chital, nilgai, four-horned antelope, rhesus macaque, langur, peacocks. we were reluctant to go in an April afternoon, but to our surprise a sort drizzle of rain helped & weather became pleasant. One can see hundreds of peacocks.we could see 20-30 dancing peacocks through our drive. The forest area is beautiful, rocky at places with water ponds. we could spot a few pug marks & waited in a particular area for some time to spot the wild cat, but couldn't. Nonetheless, the experience was fabulous! We enjoyed.I rate this place at 4, only coz of the drive through the forest. For basic amenities & facilities, I rate it as very poor.At 6pm, we were ready for the return journey!

Now the road directions, Sariska is in Rajasthan and one of the most prominent towns nearby is Alwar. So if you need to drive from Delhi, go to Gurgaon and take the left road towards Alwar. This gets a bit tricky here in Gurgaon and most often people end up taking the Delhi - Jaipur Road.
From Gurgaon be on NH 8 and take the road via Manesar. From Manesar reach Dharuhera and change to SH 25 and proceed straight towards Tijara. On the way if you see places like Kishangarh and Ghasoli....you know you are on the right track. Keep going on SH 25 till you reach Alwar and then change to SH 13 towards Sariska. The road starts to get bad about 6 - 7 kms ahead of the Reserve and trust me....its really bad !
Once we reached Sariska, we checked into the Tourist Guest House.
We dozed off for almost half an hour until we were woken up by our guide, who was one of the Forest Rangers. He drove us in a Bolero to the Tiger Reserve and the good thing was that he knew the places. The first impression of the reserve is grand itself and we were told that there were about 6 - 7 tigers in the Reserve now. Sariska had become a haven and in fact in a matter of few years the entire Tiger population at Sariska had been wiped out.

Thanks to the efforts of a few wildlife conservationists, the locals have now become active in recent years and steps have been taken to revive the Tiger population. In fact a few tigers have been relocated from Ranthambore to Sariska and they seem to be doing pretty well. It was while you drive inside the forest that you realize how naive we all are. Inside the forests there are no traffic rules and nobody will stop by to look at a BMW or a Ferrari....the tiger is the only one that everyone rares for a glimpse. We were now deep inside the forest and reached a water hole where in a few yards from us we saw crocodiles sun bathing and deer drinking water very cautiously. All along the road we could see other people driving out of the National Park.....as the tour starts at 6 am in the morning and obviously we were late !! Things still work due to a great network and even more amazing friends. While the rest of the world was moving out of the Park (the park gates open at 6 am and close at 10 am and thereafter between 3 - 6 pm) we were entering the Park !
The Park Ranger told us that the private jeeps charge INR 2000/ for a round of the park and you must book one prior to the day of the visit as the jeeps are limited. All private jeeps have to compulsorily be run by the vendors only and one cannot take his/ her own vehicle inside the Park. We were in seventh heaven because we now had the entire 800 sq km area all to ourselves !!
We were all dying to see a Tiger in his habitat but unfortunately it did not happen. The Ranger told us that if we were really interested, we would need to come down a day prior and enter the National park in the wee hours of the morning on foot....there trekking for about an hour from the main gate was a water hole inside the Park and the tigers usually came at dawn to drink. This was something which really had our hearts racing and we are now planning another trip soon enough.
