Set in picturesque village of Trottiscliffe, this is a lovely old pub to visit with very friendly staff. Great pub food from a varied menu.
Would recommend.

. We always come to the George for family anniversary and birthday meals. The staff are so friendly and accommodating, birthdays would not be the same without the George. It is always sensible to book your table well ahead, especially on Sundays. We recently took some friends, who frequently 'eat out', for a meal and they both said it was the best meal they had ever had in a pub. When the weather is fine the kids have a nice playground, which certainly gives them an enjoyable time. A warning though...wear loose clothes, the helpings are very generous!!!
All in all a great food pub and very highly recommended.

A meat-lover, a vegetarian, a 14-year old boy and a large German Shepherd dog - our family unit is not the easiest to accommodate but we have nothing but praise for the George and its staff. We were offered a great table where our dog could have lots of space and immediately given a bowl of water for him. Between us we had lemon sole, the Classic Burger and vegetarian curry. The sole was outstanding, with plenty of veg, the burger was huge and ideal for our son and the curry was packed with vegetables, though it was very spicy so not for the faint-hearted. You have to try the chips, which were perfection. The servings are enormous so we shared one pudding, the chocolate fudge cake, which was excellent and served with cream or ice cream. The service could not be bettered, with friendly, attentive staff - we never once had to go to the bar for anything or even to wave anyone over. Oh, and the bowl of olives we had as a starter was huge and fresh, easily enough to feed a much larger group than ours. We plan to go back soon!

went here yesterday lunchtime for a wedding anniversary celebration for seven of us!We had booked the table ahead thank god as was so busy which to me is always a good sign!
We all had starters some of us had pate which was delicious, others had the sprats and whitebait and also we had the potatoe skins!all very generous portions and tasty!
For main courses we a few of us had the lovely large roast dinners with delicious stuffing, veg etc!The others had racks of lamb and liver and bacon and two had suet puddings and potatoes and veg!
Again no complaints at all all tasty hot and generous portions!
Some of the party had puddings and said they were delicious!
All in all was really pleased with the food and the service etc as so busy!would def recommend this place to other people and will def be visiting again soon!
Especially would be lovely place to visit in the summer with the kids as great garden and play area!

Atmosphere was fabulous, staff were friendly and food was great. Even met a family of travellers (gypsies). The town is beautiful and the history of the "haunted" cellar is incredible but did leave me a bit spooked but very intersted
