Just got back and really wish we were still there. I have stayed in lots and lots of different hotels over the years but I have honestly never been made to feel as comfortable as we were here. It genuinely felt like this was a week spent at a friend's house. How George and the family do this to everyone is a mystery.

We had a deluxe suite for our three teenage daughters and we took the penthouse suite for ourselves. Both rooms were lovely but our daybed on the private terrace was truly blissful to retire to in the afternoons.

The hotel complex is a little out of the village, only by a 5 minute walk, but that proved a little too much for the daughters who preferred to just stay put. We ventured out a couple of nights and tried a couple of the recommended restaurants but Eleni's cooking was too good and in the end we mainly ate in the hotel on the roof terrace restaurant. The peppered steak and the prawn saganaki were particular favourites.

All five of us completely fell in love with the place, and can't wait to return. yes the view from the pool is through wires, and yes the rooms probably aren't 5 star, but really who cares?? Anyone who hassles about that kind of thing is missing the point of this place. It has a bewitching charm of its own, which is really hard to describe although to say that it has a really big heart is probably the closest i can manage. That and an attention to detail by all staff. I loved watching the bar staff polishing the wine glasses until they shone. No slight smudge was allowed to remain which made my day as I love very clean wine glasses. I'm sure it makes the wine taste better!!

If there is availability then just go. It will do your soul good.

Dear Family,
I would like to take the opportunity to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your good words. Your words together with the other guests good comments keeps us going and make us work harder and harder to be better every year. We love our job so much that we feel that we don't work actually. As confucius used to say "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life."

Have a lovely winter and we hope to see you and your family in the near future!!

Great little hotel, reasonable, maybe a little bit of stretch at 4*, recommended

Wasn’t an issue for us as we only used the hotel as an overnight crash-pad, but the daily ritual of booking sunbeds at the crack of dawn with towels was rather amusing.

Positives : +
Clean & spacious (except bathrooms, which are tiny !)
Great View
Great Pool
Free Wifi in bar area
5 mins walk from town, circa 20+ great restaurants/bars + 2 other nearby villiages
Easy parking
Friendly & helpful staff
Mini-kitchen in units
25 mins from Airport/Heraklion

Negatives -
Breakfast only from 9-11am (no alternative offered), best skip if you need to head off early (as we did)
Hard to find, GPS only gets you nearby (ask in town to get directions if needed), narrow access road

Dear Mr&Mrs Kirk,

Thank you for for taking the time to post your review in tripadvisor. I am very happy that the positives are much more then the negatives regarding your stay in our hotel and i am sure that if you were spending more time by the hotel you would have an even better experience.

I hope that you have a healthy and good winter and hope to see you again in the near future!

You'll see in other reviews just how helpful George, his family and the other staff are at this lovely small hotel - we couldn't agree more. Nothing is too much trouble and everyone was absolutely lovely. The environs of the hotel are delightful with a great pool and ample bar / restaurant.

Our 'rooms' were very good - each had a downstairs with a sitting room with a small kitchen area (very basic with a fridge and a sink) and a mezzanine bedroom. The downstairs en suite was tiny though. Not all rooms are like this though. The standard of the rooms is reasonable, but not quite as you see on the photographs on their web site. I would rate rooms as 3 star and the outdoor areas as 4 star.

The hotel is built on a steep hillside - and our room was right at the top which had absolutely lovely views from the small balcony. There are nearly 60 steps up to that room though - and it is steep!

Breakfast is included in the price of the room - but takes an hour to serve. Runs from 9 until 11 but you can request a packed sandwich if you need to get off earlier. Bread with ham and cheese, followed by choice of eggs, and finished off with yogurt, honey and fruit. Orange juice is freshly squeezed and plenty of it. Staff are great at the restauarant.

I would have given Creta Blue five stars had it not been for the prices in the bar / restaurant. You have the convenience of it being poolside, but for many items it is 50% more expensive than the restaurants in the village that are only 400m away.

The village of Koutouloufari is absolutely lovely with some 18 restaurants and bars just a short walk away, and only slightly downhill. The best of these are The Alchemist (gets my vote for Best Small Restaurant in the World) and Oniro.

We had a problem when we paid our 30% deposit by credit card - the deposit was taken twice. When I contacted George he initially queried my claim, but when I emailed him my credit card statement he sorted it and refunded. He rang me on my mobile to sort it out and dealt with the problem quickly. He got a letter from the bank explaining the double charge, so there is no sense that he was pulling a 'fast one'. Just for noting though.

Would definitely good back and he has plans to build four new rooms just on adjacent land over the winter - just for adults with their own little pool.

Thank you George and your colleagues - we had a lovely time. Would have been a straight 5 stars had the bar / restaurant prices been a bit more competitive.

Room Tip: Go for the rooms up the hill - great views and just a bit back from the pool.

Dear Tom&Family,
First of all i would like to thank you for choosing Creta Blue for your summer holidays this year. I would also like to thank you for the good comments made about our rooms and very importantly about our staff. It is really appreciated.
Regarding your comments about the prices in our bar-restaurant surely first of all are not anywhere close to 50% more expensive then in the village that is for sure. It is a shame to mislead people on the internet especially about something which is not the reality and especially as during your fortnight stay you have not tried our night menu. I am sure that if you have tried once our cuisine any of the nights that you stayed with us you would have a different opinion. There are many factors that someone takes into account when we are talking about price comparisons and i think that before judging that something is cheaper or more expensive you need to consider these factors more carefully. In our days value for money is what everyone is looking for and i believe that what we offer here in Creta Blue Suites is not only the best quality food, always freshly cooked with only fresh ingredients (which are more expensive) but also on the best spot in the town with amazing views from all our tables in a beautiful environment with beautiful plates and table clothes and of course with the best service from our staff. For all the above and many more which i will be happy to talk with you over the phone or by email if needed to, our prices are slightly more expensive than some restaurants in the village not all.
Regarding your comment about the room pictures beeing different on our website then in reality i have to say that we have 28 rooms with almost 20 different colour variations however the room that you had is exactly the same that we advertise on our website with the exact colour variations. Maybe you had a look on a different picture from one of our superior rooms so please feel free to have a look again and you will understand immediately.
Finally regarding the double charge for your deposit i really cannot understand why a mistake of a bank has to be noted on your review especially when i dealt with it and called you more than 5 times to apologize and made my bank even to write an apology letter just for you!
Anyway all in all i am happy that at least you enjoyed your well deserved family holidays. Personally me and my family and staff we give our Soul to our guests to make them feel comfortable on a beautiful environment always there for them on any occasion! Because serving is, above all, loving, and one thing we are proud for ourselves is that we DO love serving our guests.
Have a wonderful winter and i do hope that we will see you again in the future.

couldn't have been better first of all great flight (zb 7558 lba-her) and the hotel just topped it we arrived around midnight on the coach but coaches cant get up the hill but george was waiting at the bottom of the hill he drove us up the hill and checked us in before meeting vangelis and eleni in the bar despite the late hour they gave us toasties and drinks we then climbed up the steep hll to our room which just by our luck was at the very top 101 i think. We stayed for 11 nights and through all the time there couldn't fault anything (except the dutch kid that kept running around on bbq night that was really peeving everyone off except his parents!) but you couldn't blame the hotel they tried to deal with it but couldn't. The rooms, we had the grand luxury suite which had a sofa bed for and a king sized bed that could fit four and had more pillows than our house on could have done with more english channels though only channel 31 was english. Nevertheless the rooms were cleaned every day could use a do not disturb sign for ''some'' people. The food was excellent we mixed and ate out and at the hotel we only had one bad meal all holiday DO NOT go to nikos' fish restaurant my mum grandad sister and me had crab which was wet and had as much meat as my pinky and my dad and nan had chicken a la creme it was so called chicken giblets in a discusting cream sauce would recommend galinis though the service is grat but elenis food was top drunken chicken, tzatziki even the moussaka which i don't like was good it was a climb but the views were fantastic

This is a small and well run family based hotel in a superb location with stunning views down towards Hersonissos and the Med sea. Georgios, his father, mother and staff are extremely obliging and nothing is any trouble. The evening restaurant and special nights are not to be missed albeit there are also many good restaurants in Koutouloufari which is only a gentle 5 minute walk. Our room was a grand suite and was well furnished with delightful furniture and the bathroom came with a full shower. In prime season the pool may well become a little busy but again this is monitored sensibly by the hotel, I thoroughly recommend staying here.

Room Tip: Liaise with Georgios and he will ensure that you get the room that suits

This was our second visit. and just as idyllic as our first. As we had booked last minute we had to change rooms half way through the holiday - which I was dreading! I shouldn't have worried - it was so easy with help from the staff. We had room 311 to start with a mezzazine - which was lovely, however the air con was downstairs and the bedroom upstairs and could therefore be quite warm at night - but the sofa at the foot of the stairs was comfy! The second room we stayed in was also beautiful (308?) - we had this room last time and it was still spotless. The new shower was fantastic - sprinklers at side, above and hand held - great for us women who may not want to get our hair wet! And a new comfy mattress topper! The views were lovely - especially early morning (6ish) when the sun was rising - magnificent!
The food and hospitality was second to none - Helen even tried out a new salad on us - which I hope she adds to the menu for our next visit. Barbeque night was also good - mixing with other guests and eating food at a nice slow pace (and eat more!!) Kostas runs a great bar and makes a blinding Mojito. Breakfast was much improved from our last visit.
George and his family run such a lovely hotel and he has a very helpful and cheerful team; it attracts some really nice people - and we were fortunate enough to meet some of these. I really look forward to seeing/trying the "new build".
With regard to the village - it is quietish, but lots of choice for eating out. You can walk to Hersonissis - not our cup of tea, but there are lots of gift shops, jewellers, cafes , bars and cashpoints (none in Koutouloufari)
Thanks George, family and team - we will be back!
(and if you are reading this review - go on - book it - you won't regret it).

Room Tip: 311/308 both rooms at top of hill with great views.
