“Great apartments but owner in wrong job”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 9, 2013

We where very pleased with our 2 apartments very clean nice and large a very shaded balcony but that would be nice in mid summer. the whole place is clean flowers everywhere and pots with with colour adding to the place, The only downside is the owner he really is a very miserable man he should not be the owner of a hotel as he appears to hate humans! we thought it was our age as the other people are in there 50s or the fact we didnt spend spend spend? even when we bought something from the bar it was so cold trying to talk to him, To top it off when my partner sat at one of the tables he came over and put a menu down we said we where just sitting in the sun his reply, "i need this table please move away" the bar was empty, so i guess all he wants is money..... such a shame we wont go back because of this.

Room Tip: high up you get great views and sun all day

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to review our property.
We would like to assure you that we take all comments and suggestions very seriously,
especially when we have not met our guests' expectations.

Therefore, we would like to clarify the following regarding your complaints:
The barman in our property is not the owner and he is not related to the owner. He is an employee, and is mainly in charge of the bar. If you have had any contact or communication with the owners (that is, the reservations manager and/or the reception manager) we are sure that you would have realized that all of us are trying to kindly respond to our guests' requests at all times.
Regarding the incident with the barman, we discussed it with him and he reassured that that he always gives the menu to whoever sits at the bar but he has never obliged any customer to order from the bar. In fact, it is quite common that hotel guests use the bar facilities in order to have better access in the internet from their laptops, whithout having to order anything from the bar.

Again we regret for any missunderstanding.

We booked our stay at Villa Diktynna only five weeks before our holiday dates and were surprised to find places available for our family of four. The day after our booking was made we received an email from the Villa management informing us of a problem with our booking but offering us slightly different arrangements. We took these up and the Villa offered us a taxi ride from the airport to compensate us.

We arrived at the Villa after midnight and were greeted by Vangelis and the owner. Vangelis showed us to our room and carried some of our bags. Air con and safe keys were provided and instruction given for these. If you plan to travel in the hotter months of the year air con makes it very comfortable at night. We booked breakfast next morning at the pool side bar.

Our room was very clean and spacious with two bedrooms off a living area. The rooms opened out onto a balcony overlooking the sea. The small kitchen area had all the things needed for breakfasts and snack - just supply your own food.

Vangelis informed us as expected that we would be changing rooms after five days but assured us this would be fine.

We enjoyed the pool and pool side bar, the other people staying at the Villa were all friendly and were mainly English and Dutch. Everyone seems to be able to speak English. Although there were many families enjoying the pool facilities it was never loud. There are plenty of sun loungers and shade if required.

The local amenities - supermarket, bars, restaurants and shops were all very good and as other reviews have mentioned did their best to make your time there enjoyable. We ate out most nights, rarely in the same place and found the standards high. Koutouloufari and Pisko Piano are friendly villages. The plateau and Spinalonga island are worth visiting but you will need a car to get the most of your trip.

The second rooms we had were just as good as the first but this time overlooking the pool - handy for keeping an eye on the kids - but again not noisy. Lovely balcony for sitting on and taking in the sun!

In both cases the rooms were spotless with clean sheets and towels every 2/3 days. The rest of the Villa complex was also kept very clean and tidy with everything tidied away at the end of the day.

Although Vangelis' pool side bar was open until late we never found this intrusive and his music was varied and of a reasonable volume. His bar is well stocked and reasonably priced. Try his Greek salad and toasties which are good. Nothing is too much trouble for him but remember he is there long hours and works hard.

We were really pleased with the Villa and would stay there again. We had a look at some of the other accommodation locally and feel that Villa Diktynna was one of the best in Koutouloufari. The staff and other guests made Villa Diktynna a really nice place to stay.

When it was our turn to leave the hotel staff saw us off and thanked us for choosing to stay with them Vangelis ordered us the taxi - thanks.

Next time we would probably book direct with them rather than through another site, the emails we received were well written and answered all our questions. We would definitely book a taxi transfer to and from the airport again.

Thank you to everyone at Villa Diktynna for making our stay enjoyable especially Vangelis!

We really could not fault Villa Diktynna. It is exactly as the photographs, they have not just shown the best bits! We had stayed in Piskopiano last year and were disappointed we could not book in the villa we had there this time, but this was far, far nicer! From our arrival to our departure 10 days later we loved every minute of our stay. The property was immaculate, the kitchen a bit basic but had everything we needed (though we did buy a couple of mugs) but who wants to cook on holiday in any case? There was always plenty of piping hot water in the shower, and the bathroom was very clean with lots of good quality towels. The staff, Vangelis and the lady owner, were so kind and friendly. We had a maisonette, which gave us plenty of room and our only, very minor, complaint was that the bathroom was on the lower level which meant we had to go down two flights of steps in the night if we needed the loo. Though we were tucked away a little distance from the pool this proved to be an ideal spot as it was cooler there in the shade. Perhaps when we go again we might consider a room with a sea view though. As we know the island well we hired a car for 8 days and went off to explore every day, enjoying the little villages in the mountains and finding a deserted beach somewhere down a dirt track, but we were pleased to get back to Villa Diktynna in the late afternoon, cool off in the pool, enjoy Vengalis' dry humour at the bar and generally relax before out for a stroll and find somewhere to eat along the strip from Koutoulourfari, Piskopiano and up to Old Hersonissos. There were plenty to choose from, in all price ranges, and no need to eat in the same place twice and there is always the more in the the main holiday resort of Hersonissos if you want a little more action. A word of warning, Staying in any of these three villages is not really suitable for anyone who is unfit unless you have a car or are prepared to get a taxi to bring you back up the hill from the main town. The road up the hill is long and steep so unless you are fit a taxi is necessary to get back! Still, Villa Diktynna is one of the nicest places we have ever stayed, and we look forward to going back.

Room Tip: All rooms are nice.

We've been going to Koutouloufari for about 6 years now, but this was our first time at Villa Diktynna. We went for a tour round the villa's last time we stayed in Koutouloufari back in 2012, and thought it looked delightful, so booked it for this year's holiday. We were certainly not disappointed! Vangelis runs the place very well, and looks after everybody. Our villa was beautiful, overlooking the sea (in the distance) with table and chairs to relax on. The pool wasn't overcrowded (especially since it was school holidays), and there was a lovely chilled out atmosphere around the pool. The apartments are typically crete styled, but beautifully done, even with bug plug-ins for us (although we saw no bugs whilst we were there). Our apartment had 4/5 little steps up to the bedroom, but thought had even been put into that, and a night-light plugged in near the steps, incase we got up in the night. No toaster, but there was a grill, so we sat out each day for breakfast, admiring the view from the balcony. The apartments are simply beautiful, with gorgeous pink flowers growing round them. Not too many apartments either, so you don't feel like you're in a large complex. Pool is only small, but suited us perfectly for a quick dip to cool off. Will definitely be back in 2014...hopefully twice! Thankyou Vangelis for helping make our week perfect and relaxing. See you next year.

We arrived at Villa Diktynna on the 6th of August for 11 days, and were greeted by lovely staff (Vangelis and the woman manager)
We were then taken to our little apartment by the bottom of the villa looking out onto the sea and a hotel infront. The terrace was very nice to sit out on, and thankfully they supplied some chairs and a table.

Accommodation:
The actual apartment was quite small and basic - but enough to last us for 11 days. The two floors were all combined into one big room giving us no privacy but it was nice nonetheless. They supplied the basics - a kettle, grill, hob, fridge, cutlery, hairdryer etc and the layout of the toilet/showerroom, bedrooms and kitchen were very nicely designed. If you are bad at sleeping with heat, you will definitely need aircon (6 euros a night) as the rooms were very hot and stuffy without them and the nights were even more warm, therefore an aircon is almost necessary

Services:
We really liked the staff at villa Diktynna, they were so friendly and kind. The services were very good - a cleaner gave us clean towels, bedding and sheets every two days which was greatly appreciated. Vangelis was really lovely, and must have got so tired working the long hours around the pool and bar, yet still did his job well serving us our drinks/food and doing his jobs etc. Also we were happy to find out Vangelis could do discounts on daytrips to Acqua Plus etc and also book it for us, which suited us perfectly as we wanted to visit the island and do a few excursions.

Location:
The villa itself boasted a lovely average-sized pool which always seemed to be really clean and a poolside bar selling lunchtime meals like toasties, salads, burgers, icecream etc and drinks like smoothies, milkshakes and alcohol. We were absolutely delighted on the first night to discover the beautiful town of Koutouloufari, just outside of Villa Diktynna, as it was one of the nicest villages we have ever visited with it's traditional greek narrow alleyways and gorgeous little buildings covered with fairylights at night. Everyone seemed to be lovely, welcoming you into their restaurants and bars at night and giving you a brilliant eating experience. Our most favourite restaurants were Galini and Taverna Apriadni, a must to go and eat at. The closest beach was Star Beach in Hersonissos, which was about a 20 minute walk from the apartment, which suited us fine but might not be to everybody's taste in the boiling heat. But the beach was amazing and beautiful but we enjoyed going further down to Alekos Gardens' Beach due to the huge waves. The nearest supermarket/bakery was about 2 minutes from the apartments, just outside Koutouloufari which we took advantage of and had fresh pastries for breakfast every morning.

Overall, I recommend anyone of any ages to visit Villa Diktynna as it was such a good experience and we enjoyed the nice services and accommodation we were given but our most favourite part about the holiday was the location as Koutouloufari had everything we needed and was such a pretty town.

We would definitely come here again, thanks for the amazing holiday Villa Diktynna!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a sea view or on the top terrace (such good views!)

Good value, clean and roomy accommodation. Plenty of powerpoints for those multiplying devices. Excellent air conditioning at no extra charge. The kitchen was a little under-equipped but nothing serious. We always end up buying mugs to use instead of the meagre tea cups.

Nice pool though maybe tad small when the hotel is full. Room enough for sunbathing though the 'towel drapers' were out in force.
Poolside Bar is a mixed blessing. Food pleasant enough and the usual range of drinks but taciturn host Vangelis insists on sound tracking the day with piped music. Sometimes very loud. Not a problem behind closed doors but VERY wearing after a week or so. Why?
Wi-fi is free but essentially only works adequately in the bar and even then it's not reliable. If you really do need it local bars provide a better connection.
A couple of niggles that wouldn't bother most people but for me the piped music is a deal breaker because by the end of 2 weeks even my favourite songs were getting on my proverbials...

Room Tip: Ground floor apts. near the pool perhaps a little TOO close given the size of the pool area and the...
