“Best fish in town”
Reviewed August 24, 2012

I didn't stay over in the hotel but did have a look at their rooms and facilities and everuthing looks great. My review is about the best "Samakichoma" in town. Samakichoma is a fish braai/bbq where Tilapia is barbaqued over coals and it is served whole on your plate with whatever dish you wish. It is for sure the best fish in Tanzania to eat of the grill. Enjoy it.

Room Tip: Be patient as time was not made in Africa but the wait is worth the taste

Comfortable rooms, good food at the restaurant, several bars, glimpses of scenic views, and not far from downtown Mwanza. As a business traveler, I found this hotel to be a good choice. Free wireless internet and even a couple of heavily used computers in the lobby for guests

Price is very good. Clean but shower & toilet were in the same room. Pretty hard to keep the toilet paper dry. Only 2 of the lights in the room worked so very dark. The elevator did not work at all. The bar next door played loud music all night - unable to sleep at all. Food was a little expensive compared to where we have stayed before here in Mwanza. And the service was VERY slow. Took 2 hours to eat.

Room Tip: I think all are pretty much the same.

This hotel is in the Kirumba neighbour hood near the road to the airport. The rooms are basic but clean and all appliances function. Make sure you are not lodged in their "old" building. Breakfast is average but better than at "Tilapia". for dinner you best talk to the indian chef for his "daily special". If you need to "wash your mouth" you better go opposite to the "Kirumba Resort" one of many popular and cheap bars in the neighbourhood. If you like to dance then the "Villa Park" and other discos are just 1/2 mile away from the hotel. But please: at night go by car only!

We did not enjoy any moment of our stay at the hotel, its cheap, but not good at all. The bed was hard, bathroom dirty with an old towel hanging there. In the morning the breakfast was included but the tables were dirty and really bad service. Do not stay here, we had a terrible time and change hotels the next day to the Tilapia.

Rooms are very clean and comfortable - I stayed in the $80 option by accident and would recommend the $60 option as more than adequate. Amazingly slow (but free) WiFi. Restaurant is excellent and breakfast is fine. Take local currency to pay for the hotel if you can as their exchange rate adds about 20% to cost if you pay in USD. I will definitely stay there again.

Well, i stayed here for one night and one day only. I was off to do a research project the day after in Kagera and wanted to make the most of the one day I had in Mwanza before doing some serious work.

I booked this hotel last minute and via the net. As i had never traveled to Mwanza before I wanted it pre-booked just to make life easy.

I arrived at their massive grande reception and was taken to their rooms, in another less luxurious building, to a mall room with a tiny bathroom.

The room was very expensive... 30,000Tsh ... twice as much as what im used to paying for a better standard of room in Dar es slaam (and on my return here i booked hotel with better rooms for half the price!).

Further to this, when I asked about the local attractions, i was given 3... sanane island, another hotel by the beach and sukoma museum. But was told it was imposiible to go without a hired taxi. Me being gullible, first time i'd travelled on my own and the first destination i'd been to with an interest in touring (didn't do any in Dar es Salaam) was badgered into hiring a taxi driver for the day. First estimated price given ... 200,000Tsh. I told her way too high, but when she asked how much i could pay i replied half that (thought this seemed reasonable) but later to my surprise found out that the taxi driver would have himself charged 60,000 (he didnt know how much the hotel requested from me) and i could have badgered him down for less.

So, basically, first the woman badgered me (all the staff there were complicit in this) into booking a taxi for hte day, and 2ndly she tried to daylight rob me with her first price, and still robbed me with the half price that I actually paid.

Also, the hotel by the beach? Why would I want to see a hotel by the beach?! I could see the beach everywhere as it was!

From the experiences it was easy to see you could see the sights in Mwanza without a taxi driver guide.

  • Disliked — The forceful persuasion for ridiculously expensive tour guide/taxi drivers.
