Recently, on a business trip, I spent 10 days at Ryan's Bay Hotel. One cannot beat the location which is within walking distance of city centre or a short taxi ride to anywhere. One gets the real feel of Africa as you look out from the walkway on one side and observe Tanzania Nationals tending their gardens of spinach and other vegetable crops. From the room balcony you gaze over the tranquil view of Lake Victoria. Noise is at a minimal level all around. The staff was friendly, attentive and professional at same time being very personable. The owners of Ryan's Bay are great and go out of their way to help you with whatever you may need. They are out where people can approach them and not behind some dark, closed, office doors unseen and unnoticed. They are very approachable making for a personal touch in a foreign land. I would recommend it to anyone, with or without children.

After a hectic 4 weeks volunteering at a clinic/vocational school My daugther and I finished our stay in Tanzania at this oasis of calm and great service. The rooms were attractively decorated with four poster beds elegantly draped in mosquito nets. In room provision of drinks, tv, internet and constant hot water was a delight. Balcony looked out on well tended gardens, and the Lake. Pool was delightful. The raised resturant with its vantage point and views over the Lake was good the Indian based items seemed better than the European ones on the menu. Easy walking distance to town and shops. Still expanding so some on going building work. Room staff could be noisy in mornings. Would I return - yes definatly

Room Tip: Requst away from current building works and room staff office

I really enjoyed my stay at Ryans Bay while on a recent missions trip. The shower has excellent pressure, rooms are clean, food is good and staff are attentive and easy to understand. The location is great. I would stay here again.

The location of the hotel at the shores of one of the bays of Lake Victoria is great. Although the city center is only a short walk away, the hotel is an oasis of tranquility except for the ongoing construction works of an extension to the hotel which however appeared to be in the finishing stages. The rooms are spacious, with a built-in safe, large TV screen (1/3 of the channels are Indian), a big mosquito net covering the comfortable bed, and a balcony with pool and bay view. The wireless is fantastic throughout the entire hotel. The restaurant is on a covered deck with a great view of the bay. The Indian chef prepares good authentic food however I was expecting the “whole fish” which I had ordered to look and taste more like fish rather than so over the top Indian. The rooms are clean except for some dust from the construction site. The staff is very friendly and helpful. However, the one time when I was woken up because a seemingly deaf person decided to listen to BBC at full volume at strange hours in the morning, it actually took me 3 trips from the 3rd floor (no elevator) to the reception until a staff member finally knocked at my neighbour’s door, which he of course didn’t hear for quite some time. The English and continental breakfast is satisfying. I definitely will return to this great hotel.

Room Tip: There is a better view from the rooms on the upper floors

I have been staying at the Ryan's Bay hotel on the shores of Lake Victoria from 13 to 15 August 2012. What a nice hotel. The facilities include airconditioned rooms, a great swimming pool overlooking Lake Victoria from the rim of the pool, a pool side level bar where you sit in the pool, order your drink and get served lovely coctails at water level. The management are Indian and the food has an Indian fair and not hot as hell.I stayed in room 301 which was very nice with a beautiful view over the lake. The higher the better but remember there is no elavator. My room was very spacious and at USD 75.00 a night which include an good Continental and English breakfast on the restaurant balcony/deck over looking the lake with the occasional fish eagle call was great. Make sure you trry their samoosas. For the average person cost vs benefot, I strongly recommend this facility.

Room Tip: The higher the better but remember, no elavator
