I think we were the only people staying here when we visited last month. We stayed in a hut on the beach front but I found it difficult to sleep and too hot.

The view over the sea is wonderful though and there's plenty of peace and quiet here.

Our friend did the hot soup challenge which was great fun.

Room Tip: Take a place with air con.

I found this resort through a friend of mine and came here to get a relaxing weekend away from Dar Es Salaam - something which was very much achieved!

This beautiful beachside resort holds among numerous alternatives of accomodation three Bungalows situated right along the beach, in one of which I stayed. Falling asleep to the sound of waves breaking on the shore is not a bad experience.

Regarding the food I really have nothing to complain at. The food is relatively cheap and very good. I daresay that you get more than what you are paying for. And for all those seafood lovers out there I can truly recommend the seafood platter.

Furthermore, the hotel also has a small gym, a strong WIFI and the employees are very hospitable. I did however hear some horrible things about the previous manager, but there was nothing like that to be found now. Rather the other way around, the new manager seems to be a great guy!

I will certainly come back here again, so thank you New Bagamoyo Beach Resort and five stars to you!

I stayed here for a two weeks while volunteering in Bagamoyo, and while it is a little distance from town (20 minutes walk), the ambience and facilities are well worth it. Beachfront bandas are good value and comfortable enough inside, but it's lying in bed listening to the breeze and gentle waves breaking on the shore that make it really magical. The beach is mostly deserted and swimmable at high tide, the breakfast is amazing, there is a gym, pool (in repair when I visited), and WiFi. Great value for money although the shared bathroom was at times not ideal. At times the water or power temporarily cut out but hey, you're in Africa, these things tend to happen!

I stayed at the New Bagamoyo with a group of 40+ staff and A level students in August at the end of our 4 week trip to inland Tanzania where we had been doing voluntary work in various primary schools and Primary Care Clinics. Having stayed at the resort 2 years ago I was very impressed with the recent improvements. The rooms are large, clean & comfortable - especially the ones nearest to the beach. And as before the service, the food & the bar is simply excellent.
It is a short walk along the beach to the town of Bagamoyo - and the Old Market is well worth a visit - to buy your gifts of carvings & artwork to bring home. And to watch the local fishing vessels land & unload their catch it not to be missed. Nor is the sunrise over the Ocean - well worth the early start!

I stayed at the Bagamoyo Beach Resort as part of a 14 person expedition team. We stayed at this resort for 3 nights at the end of our 1 month expedition.
The only way I can describe it was Luxury. With the beach and sea just metres from your room, there's no problem with getting to and from the waves. When I stayed here, I spent 2 nights in the air conditioned rooms and 1 night in the beach hut (Beach Banda). The rooms were very clean and with both fan and ac, very cool aswell. The majority of the staff can speak perfect English and are very friendly.
The resort has its own private beach (about 30 metres wide) which is perfect if you wanted to have some private time and relax in silence. If you were thinking of staying here, I highly recommend heading onto the beach for sunrise. It was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.
Bagamoyo, as a town, is vibrant town dripping with history and architecture. I recommend the Bagamoyo Art Market due to the amount of hand-made wood carvings and paintings

Room Tip: If you were going to stay in a beach Banda on the sand, I would purchase a mosquito net to put over...

I attended a conference here for 4 nights. We had some doubts about choosing it because of the very mixed reviews, with several "terribles", but we chose the NBBR based on a recommendation from a friend who told us that the place was much improved after a change of management. In fact it's notable that all the reviews since the change of management (Jan or Feb 2013) have been very positive.
As it turned out this was an excellent choice. The staff are friendly and extremely helpful. The managers are attentive (but not too much) and friendly. The food, especially the seafood, is excellent, not at all greasy or heavy, which will be welcome to anyone who has spent a bit of time in Tanzania. The only small negative is that the breakfasts were merely OK, as noted by another positive reviewer, and the coffee is instant Africafe, although at least I prefer this to filter coffee and to be fair I never asked them for espresso, as I didn't miss it. The rooms are pleasant, very clean and in very good condition (the room was excellent, the bathroom and plumbing a bit aged). There was no hot water in my room, but this is normal based on past experience in east Africa, and I prefer a cold (actually not that cold) shower in the tropics anyway. The conference facilities were very good. The sea was perfect, although much more inviting when the tide is in. There is a small air conditioned gym. There is also a diving instructor based there:

We didn't go but we spent some evenings time with him and he was very pleasant company - thanks for the cognac Christian!
On the whole a really good experience, and I'm happy to recommend the NBBR.

A nice relaxed and friendly atmosphere with very tasty food, brilliant beach and plenty to do for adults and kids alike. We rented a kayak from the hotel next door but spent the day at the BBR as it is much better value. I have also attended a business meeting here with very good conference catering for Tanzanian and European tastes.
