Whether you are after calm warm waters, sand, shaded area or a food outlet, Centennial Beach has it all. Ample parking too.

I have been going to this beach since I was a teenager. When the tide starts coming in the water is warmed by the sun-exposed sands. You can wander out and walk on the hard packed sand. Collect shells and rocks at the shore.

The beach is rather distant and when the tide is out the water is even further distant. It is great for sand castle making though. The new concession stand helps but it is over-priced.

I have lived here for over 42 years. This beach has a tidal flow for miles on end. When the tide comes in over the dark sand it heats up and makes swimming enjoyable. The funny thing is that it never get deaper than about 2-3 feet making it a hotspot for smaller kids and families.

Centennial Beach was so different from the beaches back home (Hawaii Island) that this was worth the stop over. Just outside of the Tsawassen Port, it's an easy side trip to make to or from Vancouver to Victoria.

Try to plan for low tide. We walked out what must have been a quarter mile and still didn't get to the ocean. We could have but half the group stayed back and it would have been and extra 15 minutes (to the round trip) had we walked all the way out. It was a little disturbing to walk through the very warm water. We found a few dead animals to verify the heat. But it was all part of the experience. There were TONS of clam shells scattered around. I even found a sand 1/2 dollar (it was broken). The rocks on the beach also have an a mix of quartz and granite pebbles.

The playground was great. The centerpiece is a rope spiderweb. The kids loved that! A trip to the beach could only encompass the play ground and it would keep them happy.

If you have the leisure time built into your itinerary, I highly recommend Centennial Beach.
