Just spent last weekend camping at Awenda Provincial Park and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, well run campground. The property is stunning and has many wonderful hiking trails. It also has Kettle Lake which is perfect for renting a canoe and heading out on the lake for a few hours. To top it all off it has a fantastic beach on Georgian Bay with stunning views that will make you feel like you've gone somewhere tropical. It is pet friendly, has large private sites surrounded by tall trees. It was quiet and peaceful. Washrooms with running water and toilets were kept clean (outhouse types not so much--to be avoided). We all brought our bikes and went for a long bike ride on the paved roads and my husband did some mountain biking on the trails. The kids had a blast and wish we could have stayed longer. Will definitely make this an annual tradition. Penetang is close by in case you forget anything or want to head into town. There is also a store on the property with everything you need as well. Two thumbs up!

The beach was around the corner with walking trail.
The dog beach was handy as our group had 3 dogs.
Each camp site was offered personal water tap.

This is the 3rd Provincial park we have stayed in (previously stayed at Craigleith and Six-Mile) and we liked this one the best.
Stayed in Deer Campsite #157. I think it was the best site in the place. It was huge. Lots of trees and good privacy. About 2 minute walk to the clean washrooms and hot showers (don't use the pit toilets nearby!) Small playground/field next to the washrooms.
Our only real complaint was that, upon check-in we were advised that we would have to pay $43 for our second vehicle. Immediately after handing over the money, they announced that our second vehicle (that we JUST paid for) would not be permitted on our site, would have to be parked 2 kms away!!! What??? Very unhappy with that policy, especially the rather underhanded way in which it was done. And especially since there was ample room for our vehicles.
Be advised, the beach is a very long way from the campsites, but there is lots of parking at the beach. We found Beach 1 to be the best for the kids to get into the water, there is a sandy path between the rocks that takes you out to a large rock. The first pet beach was also easier to get into the water. The second pet beach was less populated but harder to walk on the rocks. There was a very nice secluded beach (3?) that we could see from Beach 1 but didn't get to. And apparently there was even another beach 4 that would be even less popular as it was quite a hike to get to. All beaches were clean and water was beautiful.
There are so many attractions in this area (Discovery Harbour, Ste. Marie Among the Hurons, etc.) we are seriously thinking about doing a full week here next year.

Myself and a group of 10 friends went camping here for 4 days this past weekend and we should have stayed a week! There is soo much to do here!!! They have 6 hiking trails, 5 beaches (one just for the doggies), biking trails, night programs about animals and other park features. The sites themselves are large and a good distance from your neighbours, so you have a lot of privacy. Beaches are clean and sandy, with boulders throughout. There are cold springs that shoot up from the water changing the temperature as you swim around (very cool!). You can rent a canoe and go out on Kettle's Lake, and fishing is ok, but not great. There is also a sunken ship just off the "Rusty Rock", and a lot of Canadian History throughout the park. A great vacation for anyone!

We go camping every summer as a family and this time it was our first trip to Awenda. We loved the fact that the park is located less than two hours drive from the city. The campsites are spacious and most of the are private due to lots of trees and greenery.
There are a few hiking/walking trails that you can explore, nice little spot on the Kettle Lake for fishing and canoeing and 4 beaches. Beach 1 is the closest to parking but has the most rocks. Beach 3 is a bit of a walk from the parking but has clear white sand and virtually no rocks in the water. The water is shallow and perfect for the kids.
The only thing that I can point out is that washrooms do not have flushing systems so they are pretty gross and not very pleasant to use.
