Our occasion (motive) of the kumarakom homestays exposure was that we wanted to learn more about kumarakom-alleppey backwater life besides the touristy places we had already visited. After we stayed here, I can say it really opens your eyes and gives you a better understanding of kerala rural life.

During the homestay you live with Babu and his wife Regina and their support staff. They live near Vemaband lake and konchumada village. Babu is native kumarakom andshe is originally from this kumarakom back water village. Regina is from kottayam but has lived in kumarakom since 1978. Although you live with the family, you spend the night in your own bungalow. This allows you a little bit more privacy and time for yourself. The bungalow is basic (no luxury rooms, no multi cuisine restaurant, no hotel life), but TOP clean and well maintained. A perfect choice to sleep during the homestay.

The homestay involves more than just living with the family. In the day time advise you to where to go out for a walk , bird watching and you stop to talk to the locals. Babu starts the conversation very naturally and it is possible to ask anything you like and sometimes locals even asked questions to us. In the evening two locals were invited to talk to us about various subjects. The first night, we talked to Staff Lalichan and saw how to catch the fish by net. Very interesting to learn more about fisher man life in kumarakom. The second night we spoke with two nuns about the education system of kerala. Those conversations really opened our eyes about how things work in present days in kerala and were very valuable information.

The homestay also gives you a taste of kerala food. Regina prepare very mouth watering foods, the best we had in KERALA or may be in INDIA so far.

If you want to see more of kumarakom than just the touristy destination and if you are really interested in how things work in this state, then you should definitely experience this homestay…

We traveled throughout Kerala and mainly stayed in Homestays, this one easily the worst. The room was dingy (curtains pinned shut), the bedding filthy and the bathroom well past its expiration date. There was nothing welcoming about Coconut Creek…we were greeted with a long list of rules and regulations, more like a youth hostel. And the breakfast redefined basic. Couldn't wait to leave.

Hi,

We made the strict rules for this guest bz the guest want to drink alcohol out side the room which is strictly not allowed . So the guest anger has shown as negative review . The guest who stayed in same month "MARCH 2014" doesn't have any complaints.

The Coconut Creek Farm and Homestay in Kumarakom was one of the best choice home stays in Kerala that I have seen and it shall be most probably rate as one the best in kumarakom and nearby kottayam too.
This beautiful backwater Home Stay is well maintained by MS Regina, her husband Mr:Babu . MS Regina has a passion for House Keeping which shows in the manner that all the bedrooms, bath rooms, cottage, and surroundings are maintained in this four rooms Homestay just near the vembanad lake of kumarakom.
The kumarakom village is very peace full with backwaters and the staff lalichan and omana were so helpful and pleasant too.
The home cooked food was excellent by MS Regina. The motor boat cruise was a different and amazing experience, it was really calming and we really enjoyed it.Thanks lots for Mr:Babu and whole team in coconut creek!!!
They really highly honor the tourism awards they received it.

Room Tip: all rooms are good enough

Million thanks for the memorable holidays and letting me and my partner take over your guest house to entertain our NEW FOUND friends. Your thoughtfulness by placing an awaiting bottle of wine and glasses warmed my heart! And so did your tasty meals.
Our Land is a located to be when I want to relax and I'd like to enjoy the real and laidback kerala backwaters behaviors. We enjoyed the bird watching trip with local person in kavanantikara. It was not only the birds that were interesting in kumarakom, we loved observing and greeting the locals who were getting ready for job or school in the early mornings. The meals are delivered to the small dining hall where you can sit and enjoy the taste of kumarakom authentic recipes. The menu meals are really well done and tasty too. Great Indian dishes. Love the authenticity about the Our Land homestay and the backwater – lake regions. We top recommend it in kumarakom.

We had a good stay at Coconut Creek and were glad we did not choose the expensive large resorts that Kumarakom is renowned for!

The property is a little out of the way next to the church on an unmade back road, within easy walking distance from the lake and near to the Abad Whispering Palms resort (where were able to use the swimming pool for a small day fee). There is not a lot to do but there are a number of rickshaws on the roadside which can take you to the Bird Sanctuary and restaurants if you wish so it wasn't a problem (NB. don't stay out late at restaurants as the rickshaws/taxis are hard to come by after 8pm at night unless you order in advance).

The homestay is well maintained in the public areas, there is very good air conditioning in the rooms and the staff are attentive and helpful. However our bathroom was very dated and needed a good overhaul - it did not feel as clean as other areas of the property.

The best thing about Coconut Creek is the amazing home cooking - really good value, homely traditional food (possibly some of the best food we ate on our trip to Kerala). Don't bother going out to eat at the restaurants or resorts in the town - it is worth staying in!
