Coconut Creek Farm and Homestay

Reviewed December 21, 2012

We went on a one day house boat arranged by Coconut Creek during the 1st week of December 2012. I must say I was totally let down. 50% of the cost was given as advance. For the remaining half, the house boat guys were so particular on taking it as soon as we stepped in. I must mention here that I was warned by a friend that most house boat guys do this.
Issues:
1. AC timings were much shorter than what was given on the website. To this they said that the rules got revised only last week! Phew
2. They switched off the AC at 2 in the night. We were aghast. When we questioned them, they were fumbling and giving lame excuses
3. TV was not working. I agree TV is not all that important but considering we are stationed in a place for so long, one might want to surf some channels for a while.
After having paid so much for a single night stay, one would expect good service. This kind of service is an absolute no no! You really are not in the mood to argue/haggle etc. But sadly we had to with these guys.
I really get this impression that these house boats in Kerela have boiled down to a money making business. If they consider coupling this with good service, it could be great!
The rooms were clean and food was homely. These were the pluses.

Dear Guest,

Firstly we apology for the inconvenience caused for you in the houseboat.
Coconut creek is a homestay we don't own the houseboat. But we take booking for our guest for houseboat and we arrange for them.We normally book this boat for 3 bed room houseboat booking bz its a new boat. But for this particular booking all went wrong. Its absolutely not guest mistake. This booking was from alleppey side check in and alleppey side check out .Normally we take booking for kumarakom check in or kumarakom check out bz if it is in kumarakom then we can have direct take care or this particular houseboat owner can take care the guest.Normally we dont ask the balance money on the check in time itself. We usually take the balance money only after the lunch .But this booking was from alleppey and what the staff did was wrong only. There is no policy change for houseboat a/c timing ..Its from 8.30 pm to 6.30 am . Through this review only we came to know about this issue.
In this review only one thing we disagree that a/c had switched off in early morning 3 am.Early morning 3 am guest called us that in one of the room a/c got trip off then we called staff and made it correct.Guest has seen also. But on the time of check in first impression between staff and guest has lost..Then every thing went wrong..
Thanks for mentioning about the good rooms and food in the houseboat..
Once again we apologizes for the inconvenience and we make sure this will not happen again from the houseboat stay

regards
Team CC

After a long time, we had decided on vacation with family members. Our route map was Mumbai-Coonoor-Kodaicanal-Munnar-Kumarkom-Periyar-Mumbai.
I choose this home stay purely based on trip advisor review. And I was not wrong.
Both host Mr. & Mrs.Babu is very cooperative. Welcome with cod drinks.
Rooms was neat & clean, attached bathroom with hot water.
Two days we enjoyed traditional Kerala delicious food.
Good property with perfect location. Kerala backwaters are just five minutes of driving.
I am thankful to Mr. Ullas Babu for our special request.

Room Tip: Ask Mr. Babu for boat ride.

We stayed for 2 nights at coconut creek. Nice and clean rooms, with attatched bathroom and hot water facility and T.V.
The property is well maintained and its owner Mr. BABU and his wife are wonderful person. They took uttermost care of their guests. Starting from serving fresh juice to breakfast, tea, lunch & dinner ... everything was wonderful and well served. Infact lunch & dinner was prepared after consulting us about salt and chilly quantity and type of oil we like.
They took care of our transportation also. Infact one time he dropped us to jetty point on his own car.
Our day started with the church Bells at 05.30 and birds chirping and bed tea was ready ..
Breakfast was idli, sambar & chutney as well as Bread & Omlet.
Dinner was wonderful with Kerala style chicken, rice and chapati.
The cook/Helper were always there to help you.
Worth staying in the Coconut Creek.

I booked this homestay via Expedia. On check in, the staff helped us with our luggage and showed us the room. The room was neat and clean and had a TV with satelite connection, a bathroom with hot water and a comfy bed.

We had a veg lunch and chicken for dinner cooked Kerala style by the cook/helper. The host was kind enough to guide us to places to see in Kumarakom. Though the place is quite far from the main town, there is an auto stand right opposite the home which solves that problem.

The place is extremely well kept and you feel right at home. The only let down is the steep charges for meals which are marginally high.

Room Tip: Choose the room near the creek

Dear Our Guest,

Thanks lots for your good review about us.This kind of reviews give us positive energy to full fill our task.As you have mentioned the total food cost in kerala becoming little high.As per the recent economic survey; Kerala is the costliest state in India for daily usage items and consumer durable items. This conditions force us to increase our meal price since after 2 year with fair pricing.
We hearty welcome you back to kumarakom and our family budget home stay in your future visits

Our stay at the Coconut Creek Homestay was fantastic. Beautiful gardens, very nice room, outstanding western bathrooms and attentive service. We enjoyed two meals with the family as well and both were delicious. My most favorite place is on the swinging bench on the side patio. This property is huge and the canals are right next to the home and gardens. I would recommend this wonderful place to anyone going to south Kerala or taking a houseboat backwater cruise.

We were on a budget holiday to Kerala and of the three places we stayed, this was the best (the other two being 3-star hotels).

Sure the room is cozy, but the beauty of the place, location, service and food more than make up for it. We spent more time on the many swings in the beautifully manicured lawns than in the rooms anyway. The owners treat you like their own guests (perfect Indian hospitality) and we would have loved to stay to eat more home cooked Kerala food here.

The lake is a 2-3 minute walk from the place and is perfect for sitting and watching the early morning birds or the evening sunset.

Room Tip: Ask the owners to suggest a boat ride trip or better still book a boat ride or other facilities thru...
