“Beautiful setting, average facilities.”
Reviewed December 12, 2012

When we arrived after a short ride on a country boat and were given the traditional welcome, I took one look at the gorgeous setting and wanted to stay for a week. By the next morning I was ready to leave.
Everything is fine but just not special enough. The rooms were dark and beds uncomfortable,
the buffet supper and breakfast were adequate, but unexciting.
To be fair, it is an Ayavedic spa, which I didnt use, and I suppose if you just wanted to crash after the treatments, its lovely place to be so, but otherwise its an adequate one nighter, on to somewhere else.

Excellent location!! Best place to be to unwind. One can spend hours just sitting on the seats provided on the green lawn, overlooking the calm and serene Vembanad Lake. The gentle lap lap lap of the water against the wall lulls you into a trance like atmosphere, broken only by the sound of herons floating on the lake and the occassional houseboat passing by lazily. Heavenly ambience!! The problem area is the food. Had booked a package inclding breakfast & lunch/dinner. There was no buffet at all and we were charged extra for food ordered beyond an arbit and earlier not specified limit. The food quality was at best passable and that spoilt what could have been an ideal and relaxing holiday.

The resort is situated on the banks of the Vembanad lake and gives you a stunning view of the entire lake. You also frequently see Houseboats making a pass in front of the resort. The best part of the resort is that it is peaceful and you dont hear any sounds apart from the chirping of the birds. We had initially planned to stay for 1 night but extended it to 2 nights on seeing the resort. The staff is very helpful particularly Raymond at the front office. He specially arranged a cake and wine for our wedding anniversary celebration. The food though needs more variety. All in all a great place for someone who just wants to relax for a couple of days....

No car access as you have to go through canal which connects to the back waters by a small boat,
Warm welcome by with flower garlands and a welcome drink,
Location was Beautifull with house boats touching the hotel property for pick up.
Food was Ok and needs more varity,
staff was good.
2 nights is the max you can stay.
Value for money

Little more than 100 kms to the south of Ernakulam, the location is ideal. After getting dropped in the parking area, there is a 100 mtr stretch that we can cover, only using a country boat. This is a great buildup and after we reached the resort entrance, which is more like a traditional Kerala style gate, we were welcomed with flower garlands and refreshing welcome drink. Checkin process too was smooth.

This location is overlooking a vast area of the backwater and we could see lot of boat (houseboats, fishing boats and country boats) traffic little away from the resort. Though it rained a bit, the skies cleared up in time for us to have a wonderful view of sunset. I would put this in the top 5 sunsets I ever viewed. The view in the morning was equally good, if not better. The canal and backwater was abuzz with country boats casting their net and earning the catch. The morning after the rainy night came with perfect light.

The facility is maintained well, rooms are clean with effective AC. A small quirk is that you cant control the temperature or the throw as the remote control were missing from the rooms. The housekeeping confirmed that it is not possible to change the AC settings. Another quirk( a security scare ) is that two different suites could be opened with one single key. Luckily, both the rooms were booked for my family ( including in-laws). There is a neatly maintained swimming pool engulfed by coconut trees and the suites themselves. The facility is built similar to Kerala's traditional architecture. With the breeze from the backwater, it is easy to fall asleep on the hammocks.

The service staff was friendly and helpful. They were patient with our requests.

Food quality swung between the extremes. Few dishes tasted extremely well that we ordered a repeat the next day, but was disappointing. Being a Keralite, it is quite easy to figure out if the fish is fresh or from cold storage. Food was not stale and none of us had any health issues, but I would have expected better quality for the price paid. Breakfast was included for a heavy price, but it lacked variety.

The stay was not without the share of unpleasant experiences. This is about the attitude that can turn people off.

When we asked for pack of cards, we were told that they had to search for it. Nobody followed through it. There was a gentleman who seemed to be the person in charge. He said that he will get it if he finds it. Next day, he approached me to convey that he tried to buy it, but it was not available anywhere close by. Whereas I purchased it in less than half km radius from the facility. Clearly the intention was not there.

Another incident was that the houseboat ride offered by the resort was for 1250 +tax per hour and with a minimum commitment of 4 hours. I was clearly not interested in a long houseboat ride and wanted only a two hour ride to let my kids experience the houseboat ride. I could understand if their houseboat partner was not willing to take up anything less than 4 hours. But, he could have certainly given me pointer to where I can get shorter rides. I managed to book a houseboat for cheaper price for 2 hours myself right outside of the facility. I wished he had shown the attitude to go beyond the immediate revenue opportunity.

But the above incidents did not overshadow a wonderful time that we spent in the resort. It was a welcome break and I would definitely recommend this for a one/two days of relaxing stay.

Room Tip: Choose the room with number 101. You can have the view of backwater without stepping out

We did not stay here as we wanted a family suite which was under renovation, but we still checked this property and were surprised at its location, we reached here at around 06:00PM and believe me the sight was awesome. We were taken from a smal canal to this property via a 2 minute boat ride (an experience in itself of how locals travel in Kerela) and were greeted by Raymond, he showed us this smal yet wonderful property. Swimming pool with an amazing lakeview, lake facing cottages, Cosy Restaurant, rooms with great Kerela architecture, clean bathrooms, and a freidly staff, do we need more on an exotic holiday?

Pros: Location, Architecture & Staff
Cons: Price

Room Tip: All Rooms Have The Same View
