“The Best Lake Resort in India”
Reviewed June 28, 2007

We stayed in the spa for 4 days and it was like heaven.. The villa which we were staying had lake view and had its personal swimming pool.

The massages were very nice and overall food quality was excellent. It’s a 5 star luxury property, we paid around 900 $ per night for our villa.

We also got personal attention as some of our family members wanted food according to their taste, which was served instantly by hotel without charging us extra.

It’s the best resort in India.

we were here on a honeymoon, coming from city lifestyle we did not expect similar comforts amongst such brilliant natural settings. The welcome was very traditional, everybody greeted with a warm namaskaram! we were escorted to our cottage and the formalities were completed inside the room. The hotel staff is well trained, they even asked our permission for a property inspection, while we were on a property tour our room was decorated (bed decoration, floral bath in the bathtub, cake and wine), this place has one of the best spa we have ever seen, ayurveda and international. an island within the hote lagoon for yoga and meditation, Overall a must for the most memorable Romantic experience.

I stayed for one month in South India with my wife. We ended up at the Radisson by accident as the hotel we booked on line didn't have our room ready. We were put up in the Radisson and we loved it. Infact so much so that we rearranged our plans and stayed a further 8 days. We stayed in a lot of 5* hotels during our trip (including the nearby Kumarakom Lake resort) but this one was the best.
All the bungalows are arranged around a man made lake. The developers have actually enhanced the look of the surrounding area which is unusual these days. The whole resort is beautiful. The rooms have everything you need as well as the most comfortable bed I have slept in.
The staff are very attentive and their English is good (special praise to the pool waiter and chef). The management were also very helpful and friendly. The whole team of staff they have at the Radisson were excellent and contributed to the enjoyment of our holiday.
The food is of a very high standard and is served as buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner. We are both vegetarian and we ate like kings!
There is not much to do in the local area but we saw this as a good thing. The hotel lays on entertainment each night but looking out over the lake at night was enough entertainment for us.
The only thing I would say is that the pool area is slightly small which could be a problem as the hotel gains popularity from its reputation. The hotel was very empty on some days as it hasn't been open long. Due to the layout of the resort I dont think it will ever seem too busy even when it is full. One other thing is that the hotel is rather pricey but if you can afford it then don't miss out on this special place. We will return!!

We stayed at the Radisson in November. It's a very comfortable, well-designed, luxurious, western, 5-star experience in the backwaters with a first-rate spa. Expensive for India - but worth it if this is what you're looking for. The hotel was not finished yet (no liquor license and only one restaurant open) thus there were only a handful of guests. The manager and all the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, the restaurant served absolutely fantastic food at western prices (A friendly chef as well so don't hesitate to ask him what's fresh that day) and I'm sure it will be very popular. It is a western experience...but I expect they'll increase their India-flavor through entertainment and excursions. (The promoted excursions were quite pricey as well - it's less expensive to just grab your own driver and go wherever you like...) If you want a romantic splurge - I'd recommend the lake villas; they have small pools and are positioned for the sunsets. Sunsets from the Trunk Bar are also recommended.

Not to be missed: Take a trip in their small speed boat around the backwaters in the morning or evening. The boat driver / guide is a charming man who provides a relaxing treat and glimpse into another world.

When we stayed here in October 2006, the hotel was called "The Laguna Kumarakom Resort & Spa" but was due to be renamed "Radisson Plaza Resort & Spa" before the end of that month.

This purpose built luxury hotel opened only in August 2006 and stands in beautiful grounds at the edge of Lake Kumarakom in the Backwaters of Kerala. Rooms are spacious and beautifully furnished and truly provide everything that guests could possibly need. No expense has been spared, with ceiling fans from Sweden, light fittings from Zimbabwe and even the cutlery in the restaurant was hand crafted in Germany. Bathrooms, too, are spacious with huge baths with shower, separate shower cubicles and lots of thick fluffy towels and quality toiletries. Nothing seems to have been overlooked except "a flavour of Kerala". When in your room you could be in a first class hotel in London, Paris, New York or Rome.

Service was first rate but this was to be expected with only 12 guests in the hotel; however there is little doubt that standards will be constantly high no matter how busy the hotel, as professional management is in evidence throughout every department.

The main restaurant is The Lime Tree and is either "open air" or enclosed with air conditioning. Menus are extensive and dishes are not cheap. No buffets here! Even at breakfast each item (juice, fresh fruit, cereals, etc.) is individually priced. The very pleasant Trunk Call Bar will be all the more pleasant when it serves drinks containing alcohol! At present there is no licence and only non-alcoholic drinks are available but this is planned to change before Christmas 2006.

It is difficult to forecast what room rates are likely to be in the run-up to Christmas. There are three room categories: Pool Villas, Lagoon View Cottages and Hotel Block (2 storeys high), the latter being lowest priced. We stayed in the Hotel Block at an"introductory rate" of 280 US Dollars (one night) including luxury room tax and service tax. No service charge is added to bills by the hotel. How long the introductory rate will be on offer is anyone's guess.

Once here, there is not a lot to do except boat trips on the Backwaters or a visit to Kottayam some 15km distant, so it is not the sort of place for holidays of 2 weeks duration but it is a great place to spoil yourself.
