“Nice outdoor settings, Villas little old and cleanness to improve”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2014

We stayed at the Zuri Kumarakom just for one night, after arriving in Kochi and before our boarding on the Oberoi Vessel Vrinda on the Vembanad Lake.

The location of the resort is very nice, the park with the lake in the center.

We booked a cottage. The room is little old style should be renewed, the bathroom was nice, with an outdoor shower.

We had some complaints about the cleanness in the cottage. We got a really dark sole of the foot after walking through our villa. Also the bathroom wasn't clean, hairs on the floor and in the shower and believe me not ours.

We had a good dinner in the Laguna Bass, the Fine Dining Restaurant, Food quality and Service was very good. The air condition a little cold for a relaxing atmosphere.

We couldn't use the SPA because staying just one night at the resort, the treatment rooms were fully booked.

If you can afford, book a Pool Villa, they look very nice and are top located directly at Vembanad Lake.

Summary: Nice outdoor settings, gardens, lake.....not a First class Hotel

Room Tip: book a POOL VILLA if you may afford

Dear Guest,
As one of the unique architectural marvels on Timber "The Zuri Kumarakom resort and spa" is unique and distinct in nature.
The resort revive the traditional architectural style on timber by legendary ‘Perunthachan’, and tried to give it a “contemporary touch”.
The Kerala architecture is by and large in harmony with nature.
We have noted the operational concerns which will be addressed among the team members.
Thank you once again for choosing Kumarakom as a destination.

We stayed in the Zuri for 3 nights between 27th -30th December with our two children. The staff, accommodation and food was excellent. The rooms were spacey and well equipped. The swimming pool was great and the kids loved playing there. The breakfast was great - a lot of variety and freshly made to order. Taking a houseboat trip from the resort is an absolute must. Plenty to do within the resort itself.
We didn't try the SPA massage - so can't really comment.

I stayed with my family in 2 cottages- not the ones with private pools though, just before Xmas 2013 and we enjoyed every minute at Zuri. The place is impressive and worth even the premium rates we paid as it was Xmas holidays. I had read online reviews about the place needing maintenance but there was nothing bad about the cottage we stayed in; the only problem I faced was a defective socket (the adaptor plugs I bought in India for my Aussie devices wouldnt fit snuggly). Personnel were sent immediately to rectify this. The food was excellent and the buffet spreads impressive. Its a long time since I stayed at a Indian joint, but I found most amenities at Zuri world class and I have stayed at top notch places all over the world, often having been let down by famous but "old" hotels in Europe. What impressed me most about Zuri Kumarakom was their staff- friendly, well informed, helpful and courteous; people who seemed happy to be working there. I definitely would go back to stay in Zuri and highly recommend it to anyone planning to stay at Kumarakom.

Room Tip: Cottages by the lagoon are spacious, have awonderful view[ not of the backwaters, but the resort'...

We stayed at Zuri for 3 nights over December and because of high occupancy, we had to book a presidential pool villa which cost a fortune (USD 500 per night). I found the quality of the room poor- it was big and the private pool was great, but the furnishings were old, not exactly spotless and the room had a very used feel. The bed was as hard as a rock, and to make things worse, rooms only got cleaned after 2pm each day. The outside shower was covered in spiderwebs. At previous resorts where I've booked a villa we got our own butler as well as added complimentaries to make up for the high cost of the room. Here, nothing.

The beautiful setting Zuri is placed in is let down by the resort itself. The backwaters are stunning, so walking through the resort makes for great views, but the service is pathetic. We ordered drinks at the restaurant over lunch and waited over 30 minutes. We complained to 2 waiters and finally to the manager, who all said the drinks were on their way- nothing. We eventually ended up leaving. Staff can barely speak English which is a challenge and in a 5 star resort I really expect more.

There isn't much of a concierge- we inquired about a day trip and was told we would be given a brochure- nothing ever arrived. We eventually walked outside the resort and found a little kiosk on the road where we booked our boat ride.

Dinner and breakfast buffets didn't seem very luxurious at all- both were very messy and done without class, waiters clothing was stained etc. I left very frustrated and unhappy with the bad quality of service- definitely wouldn't recommend.

We traveled to this resort in the month of November 2013. Drove down from the Cochin airport. You would easily get a cab at the airport. They charge you for a specific number of kms. My advise would be for you to just turn on your google maps and get the driver to follow the direction for sure!

We had booked a cottage at the resort but not with the private pool. The welcome was good, we were served with the local drink of coconut water on arrival! And then we headed to the room. The rooms will need some investment going forward. To be honest i was a bit disappointing with the amount you need to shell out for them.

While we didnt find the Accommodation staff that great, the staff at the restaurant was extremely courteous. They would go to any extend to make you feel comfortable. Their food and their servings are worth the price and hence i was surprised to have read some negative reviews about the restaurant. The staff i should say again is so extremely soft spoken that you will have to stay calm no matter what the concern is. Very accomodative.

Strangely though the resort has this VIP guests list, i assume they are their loyalists for the hotel. We didnt like the favours they would get. What turned the experience bad was that they would have pool side beds reserved for them, but we couldn't book them! That was a bit racist!

Dont go by the wines list in the rooms. It isnt impressive. But check the bar, they have some amazing wine collection. Am sure just like the rooms the resort can now invest in few of the games they have there. And please buy some new cycles. The screeching noise is hint enough that their time has come!

Search online for cab reservations from Your resort to near by towns or the the airport. The resort tariffs are no where close to the market rates.

Near by towns has a nice joint called karimpumkala. You might enjoy a good meal there if you want a break from the restaurant food.

Carry a mosquito repellent.

We didnt take the houseboat from the resort, again due to the rates. however i would suggest anyone to take a day cruise instead of a overnight stay.

Room Tip: One of the few resorts where the presidential villa sits at the lake

Fabulous property lush green, amazing views of nature all around, very courteous staff & delicious food! The restaurant "Laguna Bass" a must try!! Rooms comfortable & of good size.

I stayed at this resort for two nights in Dec 2013. This was my first visit to Kerela and my, did Zuri create an impression! We had booked a deluxe room ,resort staff upgraded us to a cottage. The staff at Zuri is the one that really takes the cake here. Everyone is humble, friendly and very caring. Beautiful property maintained by an army of gardeners who again are so polite. The food is delicious and there is a huge variety for both breakfast and dinner. Buffet is available for lunch as well but we were so full after breakfast that we didn't really have any. They give you cycles..... Overall, its a wonderful place and I highly recommend it.
